I agree!  Unfortunately the plugin is old and outdated and only the admin can run such searches.

If you post in this topic, I'll run the search for you and give you the results.

What is the purpose of voting up posts?

Well everyone can decide for themselves what criteria they use for upvoting. But the general idea is to give the community a quick and visible way to show agreement or support of a particular post.

In all honesty, it's too bad we can't look it up. I'll come back 2 days after posting, and have another vote... And have no clue what I had said (unless it's a hot topic). Or sometimes new forum members will be reading old articles and throw in a random up vote.
