Mage Knight - Interest Check & Sign up

I think Mage Knight is a fantastic game, it gives you an epic RPG experience in a reasonable amount of time and without having to roll 10 dice for everything. You use cards and even get to add more cards, like Dominion!

Who's interested in a PBF?

We can decide on how we'll run it and with what variants later.
Just post your /in with any kind of restrictions you'd like.

Don't want to get your hopes up too much, but we probably need a mod for this.
And due to heavy time restrictions, I can't take up that role.

Let's hope we can find someone, because it's not so hard to mod (basically only the drawing of player cards and some hidden artifacts, the rest is open information).

For this game, the following need managed:
-The Map, which includes establishing some means of drawing new map regions, and moving players around on the board.
-4 Global Decks: Spells, Advanced Actions, Units, (all globally visible) and Artifacts(not globally visible)
-Private Decks (1/Player)
-Monsters of the various colors (6 colors)
-Ruins
-Skills for each player (when they level up).

Of these, only the Private Decks and Artifacts need to be handled through PM or private google docs or something.  But somehow we need to track the rest of it and enable the randomization of those elements.

I believe that QVist used a Vassal module for it.
If there's sufficient interest (which there seems to be, now) I could probably run this after June 18th.
If someone else is willing to run it, you could get most of what you want from QVist's spreadsheet probably.  The rest could be gotten from the wiki: http://unofficialmageknighttheboardgame.wikia.com/wiki/Unofficial_Mage_Knight_-_The_Boardgame_Wiki or the Vassal module.

I can't even keep up with Civ currently, but if anyone needs help modding it, I'll help gladly. I can offer the master spreadsheet. I also used the VASSAL module for the map as theorel pointed out.

I think using Vassal is a great way to do it.

Can we get started, Qvist, would you be so kind?

Maybe another one can be set up for EgorK if there are other players (the same players?) or when this one has finished?

I advise to just use the basic game and maybe even the First Reconnaissance scenario?
I mean, I know the rules, but I have only played a handful of games some time ago.

I'd prefer not to play First Reconnaissance.  Part of its design is for it to be short so that the game cuts off as soon as everyone gets the rules and everyone can play a new real game afterwards.  With forum game pacing I think it's better to skip it since people have entire days to look up a rule if they need to.

I'm fine with that.

I think with a mix of experienced and inexperienced players, it would be good to play a lightly competitive scenario.
E.g. a scenario where everybody does their own thing, but is not out to really attack other players.

There are some variants to remove interactive cards and such, how do you feel about that?

Yeah, probably want no direct combat.  You can remove the other interactive spells if you want, but there's not many anyway.

Do people want to roll for their monsters/encounters here rather than having me do it?

Then I'd just do randomizations for individual decks and map, while offering google-doc look-up tables for the rest (like I'm doing for Sentinels).  If you'd rather not deal with doing your own look-ups then I can do the randomization.

(I might be able to do look-ups for the map tiles too...then you'd only be depending on me for card draws which are mostly between turns.  But that would require you to be able to conceive of what the map will look like with the added tile)

I think, to have less waiting, rolling your own is definitely acceptable.

I will use Vassal to create a mockup of our game for my own reference.

You can do more complicated rolls if you need.
[ roll ]2d6,3d6,1d8[/ roll ]
Rolled 2d6 : 4, 4, total 8
Rolled 3d6 : 6, 1, 4, total 11
Rolled 1d8 : 8, total 8

I'm fine with rolling on my own.

For hands would you prefer a private spreadsheet with your hand as one of the tabs, or a PM?  I'm happy either way.
I'm going to try to have all public game info both in the first few posts of the thread and in the google doc, so you can use according to preference.
I could make 4 private spreadsheets and PM hands, if there's a split of preference...but if everyone prefers it one way, then I'd rather not waste time on something no one uses.
