Code: [Select]
Masquerade, Village, Philosopher's Stone, Death Cart, Pirate Ship, Duke, Graverobber, Merchant Guild, Outpost, Forge
Opponent goes for Duchy/Duke with Merchant Guild support.  I go engine using a combination of Village/Masquerade/Outpost for draw and cycling following up with Pirate Ship and Merchant Guild for payload.

This is an example of a game where you need to establish your draw and cycling before going for the attack.  By emphasizing Masquerade/Village/Outpost I initially get my deck trim and fit.  Meanwhile my opponent is powering through Duchies using Merchant Guild to amass coin tokens.  By switching to Pirate Ship mid-game I am able to both destroy his ability to consistently get $5 and gradually build my payload to easily power down the Province pile.  Although I am extremely far behind I am able to deny a couple of Duchies and then my deck is able to deny him 4 Dukes without the threat of 3-pile.  he resigns in the end being behind with no potential for more points.

I had a game recently where my opponent went for BM while I went for an engine, and Pirate Ship saved my life.  Then it didn't save the log...

Pirate Ship looks unbelievably bad to me here. You don't need to buy money at all here, just villages and Merchant Ships, and use the coins. Or basically play Death Cart as Feast for Duchy/Duke. Or do something with Graverobber. There are so many alternatives to buying money here. Pirate Ship CAN'T be good, unless your opponent plays really badly.

That said, I actually haven't played Dominion in two weeks, and consider myself semi-retired.

I know the feeling.  Most of my games these past few months have been for GokoDom III. I did sign up for the Dominion league though.

And now, I just got back into Innovation.

Impressive how fast you could power up your Pirate Ships there. Really nice.
I guess Merchant Guild is not the best Duchy/Duke support, as you have to "waste" your early 5$ on them instead of getting a Duchy, although the coin tokens are nice if you don't hit 5$ later on... so it might just even out.

He bought extra Copper for coin tokens.  The extra Outpost turns were also essential.
