Chapel question

When you play Chapel, is it obligatory to trash at least one card? Or can you simply play Chapel and not trash anything? Card text: trash up to 4 cards from your hand doesn't explain whether zero can be considered in "up to 4" part.

Goko thinks trashing is not obligatory - which helped me a lot in recent Horn of Plenty game; but I'd like to know what's the official verdict on this?

Goko is correct.  You may choose to trash 0 cards.

When a Dominion card says "up to X", zero is always an option.

You should pay attention to this especially when playing with Ambassador.

it's helpful for horn of plenty, peddler, conspirator and it is graceful when it's hit by herald, golem, throne room or procession.

Yes, but you may want to turn it into a 3$ (or trash it if there is no 3$s) without trashing other cards from your hand.

Right, or you may be in the middle of a Procession chain and want to play your Chapel to trash exactly one card. If Chapel were 1-4 instead of 0-4, you couldn't do that.

Or if you have TR-Chapel and the card in your hand that you want to trash is Overgrown Estate, you can TR the Chapel and not have to worry about having to trash the card that OE draws.
