Lobby Size Limits

Given that Courtyard has -16 people in it right now, and counting house has 2 people and 26 games ongoing, I take it they've removed the size limits?

If this is true, that is good news.

I count about 70 people in Council Room.

Which sadly isn't that exciting because there was still only one table open total.

I'm certainly excited that they've removed the limit where there had to be at least 0 people in a room!

Even with the limit removed, it seems to randomly put people in different rooms, which is annoying.

I don't know what's going on for sure, but it seems to me like they committed half-finished changes on the live server, and we're seeing the result.

It seems like they couldn't get around the hard limit of 50 but found a way to manipulate the reported amount of people in the room. (1 reports as 0, 2 reports as -2,3 reports as -1, 7 reports as -14, at some point > 50 it starts reporting positive numbers however, 70 reports as 5 (wraparound? is that even possible for numbers that small?))

Well, it certainly involves some two-bit personnel.

Sudgy, that reminds me... your Salvager client has been generating buffer overflow errors on my server.  You'll need to reininialize your BIOS's Cylon flux inhibitors.

I can do it remotely if you PM me your administrator account password and a valid credit card number.

Hmm, if having negative gardens equals negative points, then shouldn't we almost always have negative infinity points since in most games we can not buy gardens, thus we have a negative infinite amount in our decks. Therefore, the only way to win at Dominion is by gaining gardens.

In games where you cannot buy gardens, you do not have a negative infinite amount.  You have a 0 amount.  Zero and negative infinity are very different numbers.

For some further fun, let's figure out the net point effect of any negative-valued gardens.

Quote
Worth 1 for every 10 cards in your deck (rounded down)

If I have 10 cards in deck, each would be worth 1 (10/10 rounded down).  Net of 10 * 1 = +10 points.

If I have 1 card in deck, each would be worth 0 (1/10 rounded down).  Net of 0 points.

If I have 0 cards in deck, each would also be worth 0  (0/10, rounded down).  And I have 0 of them, so it's still a net of 0 points.

If I have -1 cards in deck, each would be worth -1 (-1/10, rounded down).  But I have -1 of these -1 value cards, so I actually have -1 * -1 = +1 points.

If I have -10 cards in deck, each would also be worth -1 (-10/10, rounded down).  But I have -10 of these -1 value cards, so I actually have -10 * -1 = 10 points.

If I have -11 cards in deck, each would be worth -2 (-11/10, rounded down).  But I have -11 of these -2 value cards, so I actually have -11 * -2 = 22 points.

Going to take a guess at what it's doing:

I think it's taking the number of players in the room but not playing - the number of people who are playing from that room (or something similar).

So, if 15 people in the room haven't got games, and there are 10 2-player games on (so 20 people playing), this gives -5 players. It's something daft like this, I guess.

So if 15 people enter a room with -15 players, is it empty afterwards?

It can, just not in base ten. So we'll have to talk in binary and/or hex for the rest of this thread.

In these cases I don't think the base used to represent the numbers has any bearing on the situation
