Point counter sucks!
It never counts enough points for me!

Whereas when I count it myself in RL those bonus points I give myself really come in handy!

The last two options don't make sense. you don't have to play with the vp counter, ever, unless there are tournaments in which it's part of the rules

By 'have to' the OP means that you are looking for a game and the only one available has the point counter on and you don't want to wait for another game to appear without the point counter.

I always host with #vpon, but would play with out it- so it's not always...

Perhaps option 4 is really a hypothetical, "If the supermajority of online players wanted it on, I would play with it on so that I still get to play."  Versus option 5 being closer to, "If so many people required the VP counter that I could never get a game without it, I'd strongly consider quitting."  Just my reading. 

Similarly, I'm somewhere between options 2 and 3; my real feeling is, "I prefer it on, but also prefer not to limit myself to opponents who prefer it on, so I will gladly turn it off whenever an opponent asks."

As a counterpart to Dominion, it's utterly horrible. Unlimited actions and buys limit the cards they can print, the board mechanic is terrible, and 95% of players don't realize that the easiest way to win most setups is to basically play Dominion for 10 turns or so (ignoring the board), then spam trains, pile up points and trigger endgame in a span of 2 shuffles or less.

I kind of wish I'd heard this before trusting the high BGG rating.
