Maybe this is a little premature, but to avoid any appearance of impropriety, let's deal with it now:

Is it too irrelevant to give out Hinterlands to the winners?  I had originally thought this would be a quiet 64-man tournament at max, that could be wrapped up soon enough such that a copy of Hinterlands would still be relevant.  As is, we're going to be playing pretty much until the next Dominion expansion comes out.  Would it make more sense to give the winners copies of that next expansion instead (with the understanding that it might take longer than expected to release)?  Should we stick with Hinterlands?  Or should we consider some other prize altogether?

Winner's choice of any expansion?

I was about to say this, perhaps the best would be for the eventual winner to choose which expansion he/she wants.
For instance, If I won (which is unlikely, but anyways) I'd rather have a copy of the base game or intrigue, since I don't own any dominion product, thus being unable to play with Hinterlands or the upcoming expansion.

I was going to say winner's choice of Hinterlands or next seems reasonable, especially since next is unlikely to be more expensive than this one (wait, is it small or full-size?), but any is fine by me too. I don't really care though, I'm mostly playing for the prestige & of course the fun.

Through mishaps, I ended up with 2 copies of Hinterlands already!

Choice of any expansion (including the next one) seems fair.

I don't own any dominion product either.

Does Hinterlands not come with coppers and silvers and stuff?

The only ones that come with "coppers and silvers and stuff" are Base and Intrigue. The rest are purely expansions, ie cannot be played as stand-alone games.

I'm so excited about this tournament, I wouldn't really care if there were no prize at all.

That being said, expansion of winner's choice, or perhaps a full set of promo cards (which currently runs about the same as a small expansion), seems like a lovely prize. Next expansion is slated to be a small one, I believe, so choosing that one should be fine too.

Winner's choice of expansion makes good sense as a prize, I think.

Alternatively, if theory or rrenaud happens to have a spare bag of gold or trusty steed lying around, I wouldn't say no to that.

I assume the same question applies for the winner of the Kingdom Design comp too?

"Your choice of dominion expansion" seems to be both appropriate prize and cover all of the options. Those without any of the games can get Base/Intrigue. Those with all of the sets can wait patiently for the next expansion. There may even be someone with hinterlands already who wouldn't say no to a copy of seaside etc.

Although if I had a choice of the sets as a prize I would get a serious case of AP :P

Silly loschmidt, we're going to do it plat style and that player a chance of winning any of the sets that appear in the winning kingdom, proportional to the number of cards from that expansion included.  (banes don't count) (promo cards trigger a quest where theory must obtain a signed copy of that card, thereby making it promotional in a sense)

For our international players, would a choice of language and supplier also be available?

I have all the sets in Dutch and would really prefer if I could get my prize in Dutch too (if available), if I would be so lucky as to win the tournament (small chance of course :)).

I also know some Dutch online stores with very low prices.

I think ordering from a local store and having it shipped from there is probably cheaper than shipping the English version from the States.

I agree with the previous comments. I already have Hinterlands, but I still haven't all expansions. So, choosing the expansion would be great.
And as Davio already posted, choosing the language too, would be perfect.
(I don't think I win the tournament, but I hope this also applies to the Kingdom Design Contest)

A choice of expansion would seem appropriate and sensible to me, especially if the prize hasn't been bought yet.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

I'll throw in another vote for winner's choice. I was going to vote in the actual poll for the next expansion (since I've got everything except Governor so far), but I think the winner's choice in general is a better way to go.

I'll take the Diadem.  And then find some way to destroy the small piece of Voldemort's soul hidden in it.
