Nothing like online play to prove how bad I am ...

Hello folks! Figured I'd post here.

Love Dominion, but I'm just starting to get a feel for strategy. There is a lot of info on this site and in the forums ... but for a complete n00b like me, where should I start? Do you guys have a "New Players start here" thread somewhere?

I would recommend fp's series "Making it to Level 42." The first article is here; you can search to find the next couple of installments.

Theorys engine-article should also be important:

Thanks for the pointers! Reading through some of them now.

Was there any more of the "Making it to Level 42" series beyond Level 10? I only found up to there.

The engine article clarified a bunch of items that I was suspecting, too.

Basically all the articles listed on the front page are really good. Dominion is as much about specific knowledge of the cards as it is heuristics and general strategy formulation. So with that in mind check out all the top/bottom 5 card lists too. (linked on front page) Regardless of the positions awarded, the analysis of the cards and situational usage examples are super informative, both for those exact cards and in terms of how to examine and evaluate others.

I was thinking about this myself recently.  It would be helpful if there was a stickied post somewhere that people new to the game could get a tutorial covering quickly the absolutely most important things that might be immediately obvious to most of us but need to be stated for people unfamiliar with how the game plays out.  I'm definitely thinking about writing something myself that covers the absolute basics due to a desire to get people at a new game store to play some games between Magic drafts and such.

The last of the Level 42 series so far was 10 (Oscar the Grouch). I don't know if fp is planning on continuing the series, although I hope so!
