Goons? Knights? Both?

Code: [Select]
Beggar, Pearl Diver, Trade Route, Feodum, Herald, Taxman, Catacombs, Junk Dealer, Knights, Goons
So I probably shouldnt've ended the game when I did as I was a lot closer than I thought I was. At that time I was just thinking "I suck at goons, I know it, and I just want to get this over with so I can post it on the forum and learn a little bit". I played something like this earlier and got destroyed. I tried to recreate this board from memory because I don't think the log is up yet but anyway, I think the only major difference was the original board had salvager instead of trade route, and a couple other cards may be off but that's not that important.

Anyway, I knew from the previous game that herald and goons is big, but knights trashing heralds can devastate that. In this game my junk dealer got trashed early and I forgot to pick up another one until it was too late. But how important is trashing here? Is trashing worth it and if so would you go junk dealer or trade route/salvager? I thought junk dealer just because I wanted the least amount of terminals that I could get. I don't think goons and herald can be ignored but should knights be ignored? How does catacombs fit in? And in this specific game where did I go wrong? Thanks.

EDIT: I'm thinking silver/silver would've been a better opening.

I'm interested to hear what the good players think here; to me this screams Herald-Catacombs-Goons engine, using JD to trash.  I really do think getting a new JD after the first one was trashed would have served you well.  But all of those cards are eligible to be destroyed by Knights, so I'm not sure they can be ignored.

I would put this one down as a highly complex kingdom where your strategy will change during play. It will depend on the sequence of the knights, the cards trashed, three pile endings, etc. As you played it, you needed to trash down more and get a majority of the heralds as a key card, or at least deny them to your opponent. On turn 7 you shouldn't have bought Josephine as you had too many terminals and her unique power is too weak.

To answer Kirian's question, I think a good herald chain with some pearl drivers could draw a large enough hand without catacombs, but it depends how the game plays out.

Yeah, this is really a kingdom where you need to counter what your opponent is doing. Knight order matters, but I think they cannot be ignored, especially if one player starts going for them.

This game was a lot better for me. Even though four (I think?) of my heralds got trashed, trashing with my junk dealer every turn thinned my deck enough for the remaining heralds to catch pearl divers or goons very consistently for extra actions or an attack without using an action. Trashing catacombs isn't too bad because I can just gain a pearl diver or herald if they're still available. I don't even think catacombs is that important here, and knights might not be either although my opponent here didn't take full advantage of the engine so I don't know for sure.
