Me and a couple of friends did a Bond marathon when Casino Royale was released on DVD. We graded all the movies by different categories and then calculated a total score through a formula that I don't remember. We graded, Intro song, Bond girls, Q-gadgets, chest hair, explosions and over all enjoyment. In the end I remember me agreeing a lot with the list. I don't have the list here, but I remember some of the moves' placements.

1. You Only Live Twice
2. Goldfinger
3. The Spy Who Loved Me
4. The Man With the Golden Gun
5. Die Another Day (This would've been higher if the guy who calculated everything din't take his bias into account when he wrote down the scores. ;))
A Bunch of Bond Movies
20. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
21. Tomorrow Never Dies

I really have to make my own list someday. Me and my girlfriend watched the first movies, but we took a break after Moonraker. Haven't gotten around to continue watching.

On a related note, anyone watching the new show Fleming?  (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2647420/?ref_=nv_sr_1)  It looks kind of interesting but I only caught a few minutes of one of the episodes.

I just watched the trailer. It looks to be nothing like what Fleming's life actually was but whatever. It's TV!

I like You Only Live Twice at 1 but Die Another Day at 5!? That's just silly.

I think some of the basic facts were true.  Like he was an intelligence officer during WWII (from Wikipedia):

Quote
While working for Britain's Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War, Fleming was involved in planning Operation Goldeneye and in the planning and oversight of two intelligence units, 30 Assault Unit and T-Force. His wartime service and his career as a journalist provided much of the background, detail and depth of the James Bond novels.

But of course the show is dramatized for entertainment.  Though while scanning through the message boards some say the character portrayed as Fleming in the show is some kind of representative of the inspirations for the Bond character.

So, basically, fiction inspired by his life.

Yes that's absolutely true, but as far as I know he was never in the "field" himself, but it would make pretty boring TV just to see a dude pushing papers all day.

The character is probably somewhere between the actual Fleming and James Bond.

My school's marching band played James Bond music last year, so while I have only seen Skyfall, I also know the theme songs to Goldfinger, Die Another Day, and Live and Let Die!

Ok. Since nobody asked, here are my top 5 James Bond themes:

#1: You Only Live Twice

#2: Goldfinger

#3: Live & Let Die

#4: Skyfall

#5: The Spy Who Loved Me

Honorable mentions:

The World is Not Enough
Thunderball
A View to a Kill

Slightly less honorable mentions:

Tomorrow Never Dies
Moonraker

Man that was a tough list. So much good music!

So, I just saw Skyfall for the first time ever last night. Having seen every other Bond at least once, I got to say.. I loved it. It doesn't seem fair to compare the Craig-area Bonds to the older movies, because earlier it seemed like they weren't even striving for a good movie, just for a good Bond movie, but still, this was probably my favorite of the bunch. Even better than Casino Royale, which is saying a lot. I hated Quantum of Solace, but this was really entertaining and great. Loved all the callbacks. The same theme applies to the theme songs as well, I liked this as a Bond-song but it's also something I could listen to without the movie.

I haven't seen all the Bond movies.

I haven't even seen most of the Bond movies.

I have seen some of the more recent Bond movies.

I am excited to see the next Bond movie.

Man. I had four strips of bacon yesterday. Was one automatically undercooked, one automatically overcooked? No, let's put a stop to that right here, all four strips were excellent.

I have not yet watched the previews for the next Bond movie.

I just finished reading Dr. No last night. It's so violent and dark bur it's also so mesmerizing, I got through the whole thing in a few days. I'm reading the books in order of publication and I think it's the best one so far.

I've been considering getting my hands on the original book series. I've heard a lot of good things.

Best 6 (in no order)
Goldeneye
Skyfall
Goldfinger
The Man With the Golden Gun
The Living Daylights
Moonraker - Controversial, but it was ambitious, it had spaceships and Jaws. Escape fantasty spy at its best.

Worst 6
Casino Royale awful plot settings and bad guys
Quantum of Solace - boring, too long, awful bad guys
Octopussy - Bond dressed as a clown
The World is Not Enough  - Yawn
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Yawn

I primarily look for:
Action
A tough bad guy (Quantum of Solace...I could have taken that guy in a fight)
Style
Gadgets

Casino Royale is quite good but the poker scene is so awful in so many ways.
The final hand where all of them have good hands, but Bond obviously has the straight flush is so ridiculous.
And dealers don't shuffle around the cards to show the players the actual hands they can make.

I think I like the opening scene from Casino Royale the most of the whole movie.

The stairway fight is pretty good too.

The poker scene would not be cool to non-poker players if it was realistic though. "I win with a King high, Mr. Le Chiffre."

I think it would be cool to build suspense by showing how a royal flush is possible, implying the villain has all he needs to do it (evil smile when the last needed flush card is revealed). And then it turns out he just bluffed, and Bond too, just Bond's cards are slightly better.
