3-Player Tournament?

As the title says, is there interest in a 3 Player DominionTournament?

3 Player games can be a lot of fun and open up some different strategical space than 2 Player.
This tournament would be for those people who are looking for fun more than competitive play.

The problem with playing 3 Player on Goko is often that you have on player who leaves or is new to the game. A tournament could help to find some nice games that are different from the normal 1v1 games.

I could imagine hosting such a tournament and come up with a interesting tournament mode, but i would like to know if there are more peole who would like to play such a thing.

greetings RTT

thats a cool idea. I really like 3p-dominion, and such a tournament could really help raising it's popularity. I also think there is still undiscovered 3p stategy. Count me in.

I like it, but wouldn't want to take it too serious.

If you set it up as a one-day-tournament, I'd probably join.
If you set it up with a weekly Schedule (a la Gokodom) probably not.

It would be clearly not too serious, though iŽd thought about a time of 2 weeks to arrange each match (as its probably more difficult to match 3 Players schedules)

Maybe one could even do stuff like 1 day tournaments.

I would be interested.

I like the idea of scheduling a one-day event.

I'd play. Although I don't think a 1-day event would work, as it'd be way too hard to coordinate times to play.

I'd play.

Not sure whether a one-day tournament would be the best option, because of different time zones. OTOH, finding a time with 3 players might be hard.

well, there could be a test run with players from only one timezone (e.g. europe).

The much harder problem is determinating seating order. For everybody to have a fair chance they should sit in position 1,2,3 equally often. That means rounds have to be a multiple of 3.

and the way goko handles seating right now, there will be a plethora of restarts before the correct seating order is achieved. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

Hi,

Last year (2013) I had contact with 999games for organizing a VK (Vlaams Kampioenschap cfr Flemish Championship)) around Oct/Nov 2014.
Because of a personal "too busy agenda" (rebuilding my house) plans are postponed to 2015.
I have worked out the format completely for a one-day-tournament (27 players; 3p/table; 7rounds).
The only problem is time! I don't use a time-end-rule.
Therefore I want to shorten up the games with a tournament-house-rule to maximise games to 45 minutes.
My suggestions for 3 players are: 1) victory piles have 9 cards (instead of 12) or 2) action piles have 8 cards (instead of 10) or 3) both 1+2

Any suggestions, comments?

If you tweak the rules, no one will join.
But i think it is unlikely to have more than 45 min games even with 3 players online. Almost all my games are sorter than 30 min in 2 player, so I assume this will be true for 3 playes and 45 minutes too.

I'd like to see a 3 player tournament but there are a few problems to overcome

- game time is 50% more than 2 player
- match time is more than 2 player (3 games for first to 2 wins, 7 games for first to 3 wins)
- seating order (needs more restarts on Goko even if only fixing start player)
- kingmaking (sometimes impossible for a losing player not to change the outcome)
- resignations (I can't remember how Goko does this but might cause problems)

I'd be in.  Agreed with DG, though: shorter rounds, please.  As much as I hate kingmaking, it is part of the game sometimes, so I think it would just have to be accepted.

This is an "off-line" tournament so i can 't compare with online times.
Reducing to five rounds minimum is possible.
I think "tweaking" is still beter than time-end rules.
I have tested several 2player (offline) games with proposed rules: all ended around 20 to 30 minutes. And they still were fun to play 😊.
Planning to test some 3play games and then test a mini tournament with 9 players.

I've played a lot of 3p IRL in a tournament setting. 30 minutes per game is very fine with almost any setup. When time is called, all players get to play so that every player has taken the same amount of turns. Then the game ends. We usually have like 1 game out of 20 go to time.

(No time limit for online tournaments, please. Time limits is just a sometimes necessary evil.)
