As I'm not native speaker, can someone explain to me this sentence from #17:
Quote
It’s OK, though. When bar trivia night rolls around, it’s you they’ll come running to.
I don't understand "bar trivia".

Yeah, buzzfeed is really up to date when it comes to board games. At least they know Catan exists apparently. So they're only 20 years behind, yay !

Bar trivia is basically random facts that you can use in a social situation.

Is anyone willing to just copy the text of the list and paste it here? I really don't want to load up 17 annoying gifs while at work.

Though from the reaction so far, it sounds like it might not be worth it.

Of course, my first thought of a board game bully is someone who dictates everyone's actions in a cooperative game.

That's likely correct.  But for the sake of completeness I'll un-Buzzfeed it for you.  I apologize in advance to the internet as a whole.

1. You. Can’t. Lose.
No matter what the game may be, there is only one possible outcome: total domination and glorious victory.

2. You are warned before games start to calm down and take it easy.
When have you ever been nothing but the consummate understanding board game player? Oh, yeah, almost every single time.

3. You laugh at people who think board games are “fun.”
Fun? Was Gettysburg fun? Was D-Day? No, they weren’t, and neither is Settlers of Catan, but by George will you destroy everyone in your path.

4. If it’s a game played in teams, you quickly size everyone up and get with the people who will best help you win.
However, you quickly forget that they are on your team and start to alienate them as well.

5. You are constantly reminded that it’s “just a game.”
And you constantly remind everyone else you DGAF.

6. You know that timers are not to be trusted, and you watch them like a hawk.

7. You are always the banker in Monopoly.
How better to implement your Draconian rule than to control the ebb and flow of the very currency you wish to hoard?

8. You have lost friends over games.
It’s called “Battleship” for a reason, mostly because you are great at sinking relationships.

9. You’ve literally screamed when getting bad Scrabble letters.
FML!!!

10. Choosing your game piece is serious business.
Everyone has their own preference for color, shape, what have you. The only thing that matters is that no one else chooses your piece or else they will suffer the wrath of your stink eye all game.

11. If losing, you believe it is a conspiracy against you.
There is no way you are this far behind unless all the other players have come together in solidarity to take you down, right?

12. Surprise! Everyone does gang up on you!
Well, what else did you expect after accusing everyone of cheating? A cookie?

13. You pause games to make sure the rules are being followed.
That is unless you’ve memorized the rules already. In which case, bravo.

14. But will totally bluff your way through a move if need be.
Hey, it’s just a game, right?

15. Catching someone on a technicality makes your day.
Sorry, but “U.S.S.R.” is not acceptable when the answer is clearly “Russia.” Nice try, though.

16. You are a sore loser, but a worse winner.
“Gloating” is too light of a word for you after you win. Maybe “insufferable exultation”?

17. You have found out, after the fact, that you were not invited to numerous game nights.
It’s OK, though. When bar trivia night rolls around, it’s you they’ll come running to.

Although I do have to agree that I would avoid playing with players exhibiting many of the 17 reasons. After all, if you don't accept that board games can be competitive and fun, then I can do without you.

Wouldn't care about #5. If someone wants to watch the timer instead of playing out his turn (like Galaxy Trucker), then I'll take advantage of that.

I actually enjoy it when everyone gangs up on me. That means I'm a credible threat. That also means I failed to hide that. I'd rather just sneak up from behind and pounce, but I appreciate the challenge.

I see no problem with #13. If there is disagreement on a rule being followed, then look that shit up, man. I'll accept that a group may come to a consensus that we'll play the wrong way for this game since we've already gotten this far. But of course, anyone who does #14 does not get my approval as a gamer.

It's a cute list, but it's definitely watered down for broad appeal.

Game are fun and competitive at the same time. If they aren't, then you're playing with people who don't care about winning which defeats the point of playing the game. Who wants to play Dominion with someone who just builds their deck and never wants to buy points? No one, that's who.

Exactly. If a game is well designed, I have fun by playing to win. If it isn't fun to play to win, then that's not a game I want to play.

We used to have the reverse issue because we had an older version of Trivial Pursuit. But we accepted Russia obviously, don't know if we accepted Ukraine, Belarus... etc...
