Remodel puzzles

So how can the following happen:

1) On a single turn I play my remodel and gain nothing. Later in the turn I play remodel and gain an estate.

2) Without playing bridge or highway, remodel a vineyard into a possession.

Golem (as only card in your hand) into a Remodel and a (say) Lab, drawing a Remodel and something else

Not the solution I was thinking of for 1, but it's great!

Contrived solution for #1:

On your turn, you empty out the Curses, Coppers, and Estates (no $2 in the supply) with Ironworks.  Then you trash a Copper, then you have nothing to gain.  Then you Ambassador an Estate back into the supply, then trash another Copper.

Isn't #1 as easy as:

There are no $4 cards on the board.  Your first Remodel was an Estate to nothing; your second was a Copper/Curse to Estate?

Or even:

Your first remodel, you trashed a Province

Remodel says "up to".  It can always be a lateral, or even negative, move.  You can, in fact, remodel Province into Curse if you really wanted to.

For #1, would Trader with a depleted Silver pile provide a valid solution?

Sneaky Solution for #1:

Your hand consists of Village-Remodel-Remodel-Watchtower-Copper (or Curse)

Play Village, draw random card.
Remodel that card into something, reveal WT and trash it.
Remodel your Copper into an Estate.

I don't know whether gaining and trashing strictly is gaining, because the net result is not gaining.
It's one of those timing issues and I think you gain first, then after that decide what to do, so this solution may not be valid.

Easier solution for #1

Firstly, you try to Remodel a Potion-costing card (e.g. Alchemist) and there are no more in the Supply.
Then you just Remodel a Copper into an Estate.

I agree that your first one isn't valid since Watchtower doesn't stop you from gaining, it does something after you gain.

For the second one "Up to $5P" includes "Up to $5", so you still have to gain something from Alchemist even if there are no more Potion-cost cards left.

That doesn't work, because of up to. You could trash an Alchemist into a Duchy, for example.

How about Expand? Remodel talks about coins, Expand only says $3 more.

The texts are identical except for the number in the coin...
