Battle for Wesnoth

This is the current game keeping me awake at nights

Bought the ios version for £2.99 over Christmas.

Its a turn based squad combat game with a campaign, so you can carry your characters over from mission to mission.

There are masses of campaigns and you can download new ones for free and it looks like you can make your own somewhere as well.

You got the usual mix of troops from fantasy land, and come with standard weaponry, HPs and so on.
Graphics are pretty basic.

Oh, just found out you can download it free on a PC or MAC

Yeah I loved this game. Got a tad bored of it after awhile though; I should probably give it another shot. Maybe multiplayer.
Making your own campaigns isn't that difficult but it is a lot of work.

Wesnoth is great.  But I hate that it rewards basically using nearly defeated opponents as a training ground.  You just want to sit a level 1 or 2 dude on a village while he is slowly attacked at a rate that won't kill him so he can gain XP.

Really?
I found I like the extra gold got from doing missions quickly

im only on the Heir to the Throne campaign now (and only about 7 in)

Only just realised I should be levelling up my main char..

You can have gold to hire new dudes.  Or you can just buff them so they never die.  From my experience, it's way better to have buff dudes than to have a lot of money.

I used to play this when I had Ubuntu on my desktop.  It was really cool, but all the levels maxed out at 3 :(

This is true, but I would rather have both!
Safety in numbers

But by the end of the campaign hopefully ill have high enough heroes or i'll be screwed I assume.

Worried because i spent the first 7 levels not levelling up my hero, he stayed at the back buying more troops.

Got to love the lancers! Chaaaaarge!

I played it some about 7 years ago. My roommate used to be really big into it.
