Reliable information about Goko

It seems that I don't really know much about the current state of Goko or their plans. The fact that they are silent and the fact that they have failed to deliver the tablet version "this fall" created much speculation on this forum, but no reliable source has confirmed it (AFAIK). I understand that we are all angry, but maybe we are a little unfair. Maybe their silence is some kind of convoluted business strategy. If anyone has definite answers to these questions, please share them with us:

  • Should we still hope that the tablet(offline) version will be released?
  • What is the current relation between Goko and the vietnamese company that originally wrote the source code? If the partnership was terminated, who is doing the coding?
  • Who maintains the servers? It looks like when they crash, someone reboots them manually the next working day. That doesn't look professional.
  • What is the agreement between RGG and Goko?

No one who has reliable answers to these questions frequents these forums.  The last time a Goko staff member was active here was in October; Donald X has been gone longer than that, and Jay Tummelson (who runs RGG) has, so far as I know, never been to the forums.

DougZ comes by every so often, but it's unlikely he has good answers to any of these.

See the following correspondence with Donald http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=10156.75

I am currently in the process of trying to get the answers to these from Goko. If I do, and if I get permission to repost, I will.

"Dear Goko Dominion fans,

We have current problems with games not starting sometimes and we plan to fix it in the long run. In the meantime we restart servers daily and it is temporary resolving problems. If you cannot start the game please, first be sure that you log in with the secure connection https://www.goko.com/ instead of http://. If you still cannot create a game, please try again. Usually 1 out of 2-4 games starts when the site is having this problem. If you cannot start a game after 5-6 attempts, then, please wait for a server reboot. We are rebooting servers daily, at night time PST, when the traffic is not so high. We are very sorry for inconvenience, it is a temporary problem. We appreciate your patience.
Thank you,
Tanya"

This is like.. a very horrid and unprofessional solution, and that "temporary fix" lasts for quite some time now, I believe?

This is very disturbing.... it is a simple and trivial thing to set up your web server to auto direct http traffic to https. I mean, just try going to http://www.google.com. You will land at https instead. If Goko has bothered to pay for a certificate on their web server, and apparently you have to use SSL to use their site properly, then not having it auto direct there is armature insanity.

Maybe they are afraid servers won't handle all those encryption and decryption.

Thought I would share the following

In a fit of frustration a few days ago I typed the followed in a facebook message to goko:

Quote
Can I have a refund? I bought into a system that I thought would work with occasional reliability. This is not what I am receiving.

I received back this message:

Quote
Hi redacted,
Sorry about temporarily site instability. Let me know your nickname of your account or email address (if it is email account) and I will make you a refund.
Thank you very much.
Tanya

Because I believe I have thus far more or less gotten my money's worth--playing thousands of game--I did not go through with the refund, nor do I want to give up playing dominion when it does work in the future (I am too addicted at this point).

But for those of you who perhaps recently purchased into Goko and are regretting the decision because of site instability there appears to be a potential for refunds.

I personally respect Goko for being willing--at least appearing on the surface--to refund people upset with the lack of quality, but would certainly just prefer a better system instead.

If anyone has success getting a refund perhaps share your success--or failure--here?

Comparing Goko to Google, yeah, that's gonna work.  ;D

So I actually got a response from Goko... for those who don't know, their Facebook page is actually active; and seems to be where you can get updates and get in touch with them. I asked about the https thing...

Quote
Because for the logins of 95+% of people and for 95+% of what happens on the site you don't need an https connection, nor its extra overhead.

Fair enough, I suppose. That makes sense in general; though not in the context of them telling people that creating games will only work if they're on https...
