A pretty funny game using a non commun strategy!

Hi everyone,

I don't really know why I wonder me today : "long time that I didn't play dominion, I miss this game so much but isotropic is down... Ok, let s try the new website, it s maybe not that bad! :p"

I was a bit rusted but pretty fast I was back in the game and I remembered why i liked this game so much!
But even if all the game that I did was really funny no one was so intensive than this one! :
http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20131222/log.514d198de4b00e514a721cbb.1387763713638.txt

I think that my strategy was really not the best,  he could have won by trashing province with apprentice for example but he was leading so much that I think he was thinking : " why this guy is still buying action, just end this game, you lost already! ^^"

Anyway after almost 30 min of solo game (he was not even playing, just waiting the end of my turn to press end turn... sorry for my slowness Evan Clark but I really didn't wanted to make any mistakes :( ), I succeded to win by 1 point...
I put this log only cause I think the strategy of 5 bureaucrat is really not usual (I did I think 4000 games and I did it only this time...) and because I wanted to say I am back... care Stef, I will try as hard as possible to get back the first place! ^^

I don't think I ever played a game against you, so I'm really looking forward to it! Welcome back.

If you just opened this thread to see that Marin is back and didn't read the log, do yourself a favor and read the log.

I feel like the Bureaucrat pin probably calls to Marin while he sleeps.

"Marin... Marin... it's me... Bureaucrat x 5... have you achieved me yet? You can't rest until you do... use Throne Room... Marin... Marin... wake up... play Dominion, Marin... I'm waiting for you, Marin..."

Until I read that log, I never would have thought it possible to empty the Silver pile with Bureaucrat.  And win.  Amazing.

I played a bunch with Marin yesterday, he's very good indeed.

In one of our games he beat my whacky engine with Trader-BM, that's almost cheating lol. Though "I didn't know Ironmonger could act as a Village" is almost an acceptable excuse ;)

I blame myself for not seeing this coming sooner - I think this strategy is too slow to beat the apprentice/BM thing I was doing - I just didn't buy enough money initially and didn't end the game fast enough like you're saying. I was watching American Horror Story :(. My rating drops when I watch TV while I play but... w/e.

Definitely an interesting one. I let you play it out because I was only 2 points away from having half the VP and locking a win... one more province or a few more estates and your engine would have been too slow.

But congrats on pulling off the pin!

Edit: Oh and I was telling you to stop buying actions because I thought you had WON and didn't need more engine pieces to keep the pin going, but let me look through the log and see if I'm wrong.

He needed those extra pieces for better consistency during his greening face. You were really close to having half of the VP, so missing the complete pin even once could have been devastating. Yes, he'd probably win without the extra components, but it's a pretty clear mistake to reduce your winning chances from ~99% to, say, 95% just to get it over with sooner. And if you're really convinced you've lost and don't want to sit out the rest of the game, you can always click the resign button.

Yeah I wasn't complaining, it was a friendly "do you really need that" once I was pretty sure it was locked up. Tricky enough that I waited it out though.

I just played some games against Marin.

He beat my Hermit/Market Square with a regular, although complex, engine.
