'Upgrading' potion cost cards.

Can I use cards like upgrade (or other cards in the 'upgrading' family in a similar way) to trash a card costing $2P, like Scrying Pool, and gain a card costing $3P, like Alchemist?

$3P costs exactly $1 more than $2P right?

It would make sense, but I have never been sure of this. Thanks for any clarifications!

Yes, 3p is exactly one coin more than 2p.

Salvager, Forge, Bishop, etc ignore potions in the cost of the trashed card -- they look only at the cost in coins.

I'm not as certain about Remodel and other "up to" cards. I think if you remodel a Scrying Pool, you gain anything up to 4p? So Golem, Familiar, Alchemist, Vineyard, Militia, Silver, Poor House would all be fine.

Yup, "up to" is fine also.

Scrying Pool costs two coins and one potion:   $ $ P

Remodel lets you get a free card whose cost is up to:  $ $ P + $ $

Since four coins and one potion would be enough to buy a Golem, you can choose Golem as your free card.  Since four coins and one potion is also enough to buy a Scout, you could choose a Scout as your free card.

Dude, this is one of cleanest explanations of this up to date. (and this has been explained on the board countless times :P ).

I was thoroughly disappointed.  After I read the original post I, instead of answering in a simple and concise way, made some popcorn, pulled up a recliner and waited for a barrage of lengthy explanations and diagrams.  Now I'm just left with shattered dreams and popcorn.

You can model shattered dreams via weak solutions to a free boundary problem.

Now I'm just left with shattered dreams and popcorn.

Try putting the shattered dreams in a cup with a couple tablespoons of butter, melt it in the microwave, and pour it over the popcorn. The shattered dreams will infuse the butter with flavor and your popcorn will be despairilicious.

Just a notion, the "up to" cards allow you to downgrade as well, something you should not overlook.
I once Remodeled a University into a Vineyard, a nice endgame tactic.

Stonemason is even better for this. Pay $5+P for two Alchemists, and then once it gets into the endgame, trash Alchemists for two Vineyards each.

That is of course true, but Stonemason wasn't in that game. :D

PitrPicko did exactly this to beat me in the deciding game of our match in GokoDom II: http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130922/log.505e9c9c0cf2ef979299a7c0.1379880959881.txt
