To clarify: I could look in the bottom left and see a "2" on a trade route map, right beside a "7" on a VP mat. I could also click on my opponent's face and see a "0" on a trade route map, right beside an "8" on a VP mat.

Actually, no. I'm in the same game, and I can look at his Trade Route Mat and see a value of 0. He had 8 VP chips and the game didn't have Pirate Ship or any Coin Tokens (except for Trade Route).

It's good that Mystic works with deck inspection, and otherwise it's just guessing. Really shows that predicting the future is just guesswork.
It isn't guesswork when there has been an Oracle helping her predict the future. Or a Fortune Teller. And even a Scrying Pool is sometimes enough.

At first the Mystic is just blindly guessing, but if she gets it wrong then the next Mystic predicts with 100% accuracy.

Unless you're just an idiot.

"OPEN STONEMASON

6 IS A GOOD NUMBER"

Of course. Gotta load up on those advisors

I thought it meant get 6 stonemasons in the first two turns by using 4/4 on a Baker board.

Does someone have a good minimal working example implying mystic and showing a case where it shines?

This game has Apothecary, which really helps Mystic shine.

This one uses Wandering Minstrel as my sifter, which also really helps Mystic.

With Wishing Well and Mystic, there are really two strategies to follow: play the odds, or play for what you want to be there. If you play the odds, you have a good chance of getting something, but it probably isn't that great. The other approach is to go with things like "If I draw a Village, I'll be able to play my Smithy" and so you guess Village even though it's not the most likely card to draw. I will often use one to just wish for my payload card, assuming I haven't seen it this reshuffle, even though I only have one of them. With this later approach you don't have great odds of getting anything, but when you get it it's really good. Which approach is better and when? I really don't know.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: New Junking Mechanic

The Swamp shouldn't say "Trash this from your hand" because when you play it, it isn't in your hand. It should just say "Trash this card."

Other than that, I really like the concept. I feel like having one-time junking helps fix the problem that exists in balancing all the "blood money" cards, because this way, you're assuming a solution to the problem in a way that those ones don't. A lot of them get imbalanced when you can just trash the Curses you get but with Swamp you can assume that the Swamp will get trashed.

However, I agree with StrongRhino that this basically provides the opportunity for too much junking in certain games, especially with the attacks.

Every time this comes up, I bring up the same card, which doesn't have quite the same tracking issues, but they still exist.

Peons
$4 - Action-Duration
Choose two: +1 card, +1 action, +$1, +1 buy (The choices must be different.)

At the start of your next turn receive the other two.

It's totally possible to track this for one or two, but if you start piledriving them, or if you King's Court or Throne Room them, I really don't want to track that. And Procession, just no. However, it would be totally possible to track on the computer.

Game Reports / Trashing a Province - With Junk Dealer!
« on: July 04, 2013, 02:45:28 pm »
I wanted to post the log, but forgot to grab it but I just played a game with Witch, Sea Hag and Familiar throwing curses all over the place, as well as Junk Dealer. I got the lead, and right at the end realized that I had a chance to buy the last Province only if I trashed a Province with Junk Dealer. So I did. It was pretty cool.

Game Reports / Cool Combo: Journeyman + Estate Trashser
« on: July 04, 2013, 02:33:20 pm »
In this game the trasher was Salvager, but this principle could probably work fairly well with any trasher where you really just want to trash Estates and then big cards for a huge payout. Since your trasher doesn't want to really touch your Coppers, your Journeymen can just name Copper and once your Estates are gone skip everything you don't want. And when you still have Estates, it doesn't matter that you're drawing them as they still provide +$2 or something like that.

Also in the same game there was some cool stuff with Grand Market and Salvager and Merchant Ship and IGG. Pretty cool game.

You're welcome. Not sure I'd do it again, but in the OP I shared a link to the public template if anyone wants to organize it on their own.

I've won a fair number of KC games with Province by ignoring KC. I find that in Province games I need a good reason to go for KC, while in Colony games I need a good reason to avoid it.

Well, if you name Curse, nothing happens since you put the cards back in any order.

Yeah, the game-ending hand isn't likely without support, but if you just KC a single Bridge, you can buy 3 Feodums and a Silver right there with Estates forming the rest of your hand.

Unless I missed something (I'm pretty sure I didn't). I'm now out of legal moves. It's Xeiron's turn, and TINAS, you can just skip to Xeiron for any future turns you have.

So, I was about to suggest that an opening of Butcher/Market Square, Butchering Estates to a Steward and more MSs while starting to save tokens might be interesting, but then I saw that you had Shelters. :P

I have no idea what to do on this board.

I'm reading some rather dull physics papers on how curling stones curl.

Going for Rebuilds, I would open Silver/Woodcutter. Lookout doesn't help me buy Rebuilds or Duchies, and I really just don't care about the Curses; in the game, Lookout is already a liability for you at turn 10, having to topdeck a Duchy for your next turn. You manage to trash three Curses in total, but at the cost of buying fewer Rebuilds in the opening, and therefore not playing it as early and often as possible. On turn 5, why do you buy a Duchy, of course it's better to buy another Rebuild - this is the biggest mistake, for sure. At turn 8, I would buy Estate over Silver, to avoid that situation at turn 10 where you don't have any more Estates to Rebuild. On turns 15 and 16, you can buy Estates; you have a lead, and piling out on Estates, Duchies and Curses is probably the fastest way to end the game. Still, after all that, you only lost by one point.

On turn 10, I really should have played Lookout before Rebuild because I knew there was a Curse there. On turn 5, I bought a Duchy because I thought that I wanted cards to Rebuild before getting another Rebuild.

74
Here's a game on the same board where LastFootnote beats me 25-24. He goes for Hunting Party/Sea Hag while I try Rebuild, possibly sub-optimally. It's close, and my Rebuild play could likely be improved, but I still like Sea Hag.
