Ok, so maybe the random voting thing is not so helpful.

Unvote: Jorbles

For you more experienced folk, though, what are some of the strategies for going about this? What should I look for in people's posts? Is Eevee talking too much? Is that suspicious? Is anyone being too quiet? Is that suspicious? Does anyone have valid suspicions with evidence that they'd like to share yet? Can I trust any of you scum?

2777
Uhm 4) was a serious question. Answering "nice try" is like saying "don't you know I can't respond to this truthfully!?" How no one else is voting for Robz for his scumslip is beyond me, but personslly I'm happy I found his scum partner already.

Oh, I see I've screwed myself already. Didn't take long. It was more that I have serious trouble answering hypothetical questions that don't apply to me. Now to shut up for a bit.

2778
Hmm, I feel like answering all of your questions would be a major FMFP. However:

1. Only a few IRL party games.

2. Haven't read any in detail. At Robz's suggestion I might look at IV but Zeus on a bike is that long. I'd really, really love to be able to say that I have better things to do today than read through 140 pages of forum posts.

3. Nice try. My role PM did seem to contain an unnecessary amount of gender confusion though.

4. Again nice try. I've been hurt too many times before.

2779
That being said,

Vote: Jorbles.

Hey, some of us are on break and have trouble waking up before 11. Also, I'm new at this and mildly frightened of making a terrible forum mafia faux pas (FMFP).

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: What card design rules are left?

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but I was amazed to see a card with +$5 on it (for $4 no less!). Obviously Donald X. had to add a lot of downside to balance Death Cart, but what's the limit? Can you balance a card with +$6? +$7?

There already (sort of) is a card with +$6: Vault.

Eh, kinda, but it only gives $6 at the expense of the rest of your hand. It plays very similar to a card which says "+2 cards, reveal your hand, +$1 for each card which is not a treasure," which now doesn't sound like it gives +$6.

confirmed

Now that we've seen (almost) all of the cards... I barely know where to begin. So many new mechanics, so many choices of strategies, so many possible interactions. It hurts my head just to think about what King's Courting some of these things would do! It's like we'll have to learn a brand-new game now; our previous Dominion knowledge and experience may prove to be of little help. But I'm sure others, like me, are quite excited about learning to play this new game! Thanks for everything!

For real.  Hide the women, children, and newbs!  The Dark Ages are here!

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, and hide yo husband, cuz, uh, Dark Ages will be challenging e'rybody to rethink existing cards and strategies.

Man those previews last week spoiled me. I was hoping we'd get the rest of the set spoiled at 9 am ET also. Can't wait to see what that other card that gives Spoils is!

Even though Hunting Party does fit your description, I feel the fact that it's (almost) guaranteed to draw more than one card makes it of a slightly different flavor than some of the others here.

I'd say Hunting Party is most similar to Wishing Well.  Both involve revealing, and the chance (granted, a higher chance for one of them) of drawing a revealed card.

Of the cards on this list, I agree. But I think Hunting Party is really most similar to Lab (in fact I'd argue there are few pairs of cards as similar in function as those two) which is definitely not on this list.

In any case, I've thought about this too and I think classifying and comparing cards like this is interesting. There are these fundamental commonalities among some cards, but as we've seen with the set design contest, some cards obviously fit nicely into categories while others test the boundaries (is Squire really a village? e.g.)

When I first played Seaside, I also thought of Treasure Map as totally awesome. However, I figured the strategy was to buy two, buy some trashers and/or drawers and then get the maps together and transition to big money.

I'm not sure why you would muck around with all that when you could just buy more Treasure Maps. You guys know they give you 4 golds on your deck right? Granted, you need two of them, but still. Each treasure map = 2 golds. They'd be balanced at $12.

I remember having played just a few games of Base+Intrigue. I really enjoyed the mechanics of the game, and though I had never seriously been into any other board games, I was hooked.

Then my friend, who had introduced me to Dominion, brought over the other expansions he had. I picked up the Seaside box and read the card descriptions. A particular card caught my eye. Certainly this must be a joke. A card this strong must dominate each kingdom in which it appears. Why print such an absurdly powerful gamebreaking card?

I knew then that we needed to set up a kingdom with this card and play it immediately. I would buy and buy this card and nothing else until it led me to inevitable victory. Fools who ignored it to pursue other strategies would come to regret their naïveté.  I refer of course not to lowly imposters like Wharf, Ambassador, Ghost Ship, Tactician or Sea Hag, but to the mighty Treasure Map.

I always buys lots of Lighthouses.

But for favorite card, I have to go with Pirate Ship.  So much fun!

EDIT: Also, to ninja Robz, he likes Scout.

Eh, Scout is one of those power cards that almost makes the game not fun to play. It's like, damn Scout, would you let some other strategies have a chance?

2793
You skip Sea Hag just because lookout is available? ???

I'm making things up. I don't play nearly enough to get all the combos and counters.

Replace with "X may be a powerful card, but you probably wouldn't buy it if Y was available."

In reality, when I buy Sea Hag depends more on whether I'm filled with enough schadenfreude to harass my friends, whether it's a good move or not.

Wow, I was really surprised to read a German word in your last sentence. I didn't know that it is one of the German words English speaking people use. Nice, you learn something everyday.

That's an incredibly useful word, with no good English translation. Though after seeing Avenue Q I can't hear or read it without the song playing in my head.

Oh, hey, guys, can we use this to stop all the speculation that ruined village will give +2 actions? K thanks.

So you think +1 action?
Yes, of course.

If all the ruins cost $1, doesn't this break our sacred "no strictly superior cards" rule? Though you can't buy ruins and shelters as you do other cards. And it's not like every other card rule hasn't been broken so far, especially the ever-important "no card names with 15 or more letters" rule.

EDIT: Ruins cost $0. Still too early for me.

2795
Mint + Spoils would be another way to gain them, if you really wanted them.

I'm also guessing that simulators will like Pillage/Spoils + BMU a lot.

I'd say it needs to be in the supply (which it isn't) to be gainable with mint.

This is a good question. Certainly you can't gain a Diadem with Mint, but there's only one of those...

2796
also, pillage doesn't have "if you do". so you can throne room it! governor for cards, throne room pillage, each opponent discards there best 2 of 6 cards, you get 4 spoils. kc option too, of course.

KC-KC-Council Room-Pillage-Militia. Leave opponent with 3rd--5th best of 8 cards. And gain 6 one-shot golds.

4th-6th best, actually!

Ah, but of course. It's still early 'round these parts.

How about Alchemist over Lab (considering effect only)? The topdecking is optional, so there'd be literally no reason to ever take Lab if they cost the same.

Topic title edited because it was really bothering my OCD.

I guess that error would affect your OCD.

:):):)

We wouldn't want to negatively effect you're OCD. That would just be mean.

Oh snap, TINAS' joke is what I meant to do but apparently I cannot think right now.  What fail.  :-[

Its not always easy to use affect/effect correctly.  Their tricky.

I believe its there tricky ;)

Your all wrong, it's not that hard.
that's what she said

God this is an awesome community. Not only does the creator of the frickin' game post on the forums to answer questions and give previews and teasers, he even occasionally pops in with a well-timed d*** joke.

With so many cards unaccounted for, do we have a good reason for assuming there's only 35 kingdom cards? Has Donald confirmed this?
