Personally I enjoy being able to buy Ghost Town/Den of Sin/Night Watchman and then use Exorcist on it immediately. And playing these cards doesn't seem simpler or more complex than gaining them to hand.

*idly wonders what the other mysterious problem was*

I also don’t remember. I’m just taking his word for it.

I continue to be happy to have fixed this broken card, despite your objections.

Well that's unfair and misleading. I never objected to it being fixed. Just to it being restricted to Coppers.
It has always sounded like you do in fact object to me fixing the problem of Bonfire trashing arbitrary cards from play. It seems to me that you think of the Duration thing as a problem, but that's it; so, why not just non-Duration? But there was another problem and I fixed that one too.

Well I guess I forgot there was another problem, and that's on me. Sorry about that.

Changing Bonfire to non-Duration is a clear fix. What else needs to be done to avoid potentially problematic rules interactions? A per turn limit to avoid loops?

It’s my understanding that “non-Duration” would have been a sufficient fix.

It always was weird that Storyteller gave 1 coin that would nearly always be spent by it on drawing; people remarked on this when it was first released.

Yeah, although this new version has its own awkwardness.

Bonfire feels misnamed now that it only burns...Coppers? More of a "Smelt" event or something, sad to lose the flexibility.

I strongly agree on both counts. The flavor is pretty bad now and it's sad to lose the interactions.

Exploration was a weak project that you could sometimes do interesting non-buy gains with, but no longer. Even more ignorable now generally.

Exploration is often worth buying and just getting the bonus once at that time, for what that's worth.

It seems very weird that Highway isn't on the list. Weird enough to make me think that it's about to be cut.

No Hinterlands errata is on this list. It's going to be on the last day of Hinterlands previews.

No longer will I be able to ask people the question "In what scenario can one spend the +$1 from Storyteller?"  Admittedly not the greatest loss in the world.

Every time? If nothing else, you spent it automatically to draw a card.

Silk Road always seemed weak to me. Would it be too good if it were 1 for every 3 instead of 1 for every 4?

I'm guessing that would be fine.
I feel like then it would just be better than Duchy too often though. In a relateively normal game you expect to have 4 Provinces by the end of the game. If you also keep your Estates, it only takes 2 Silk Roads for them to be worth as much as Duchies.

That’s a big if.

I enjoy the Android app and the bot is actually interesting to play against. It's a battery hog though.

Yeah, I've actually started playing more against real people just because it's easier on my phone. The AI eats up the battery and heats up the phone like nothing else.

It's technically also on iOS, but the beta slots were filled long ago, so you can't use it until it finally releases.

Collection actually did make only $1 for a while, I believe. It got bumped up to $2.

Is that an invitation to post fan variants here?  That's what it sounds like.

I think there's a big difference between "I wish this card worked this way instead" and "Hey Donald X., check out these fan cards I made!" I mean maybe there's not a specific line between the two, but I'm not worried at all about what's being discussed here.

Guys, just let the game have wild combos.

There are plenty of cards in the game that warp it so much your usual strategies go out the window.  Both players have equal access to the Collections and the Horses. If both show up at the same time, guess what? You get to contest a pile of good cards, just like every other game of Dominion.

If you’re playing for fun, there are exactly 0 people forcing you to use this combo. Replace Collections or replace the Horse gainer. If you’re playing ranked, the whole point of that game mode is to test your skills against other players in a variety of circumstances and see who is better able to adapt to unusual strategies.

No more errata. No more replacements or rules changes. Let the game be. If there’s a combo you don’t like, don’t put it on the board.

I would say there's a difference between wild combos and game-breaking combos. What I mean by that is, Collection-Stampede lets all players get into a stalemate by racking up VP forever. That's not just a wild combo.

But in general I prefer some craziness to awful clauses like "$3 or more", which seemed fine at the time but in retrospect is awful especially on Band of Nomads.

I haven't seen mentions of Collection + Populate. I suppose because Populate is just so expensive compared to something like Stampede. But still, seems a bit nuts.

Well Populate moves the game toward a conclusion. Collection/Stampede is a golden deck.

if this is true absent some warning about the impending release/price reduction on the current stockpile of notably inferior cards (as per Donald X basically) this is kinda shady IMO.

I mean they are essentially printing $ with the new releases as many hard core dominionites will buy the 2nd edition too.  You might as well fire-sale the old versions not dupe people into buying up the old inferior and soon to be outdated inventory.

Well I think the alternative is to not do second editions. Or I guess to wait until a set sells out, then start developing the second edition for it, test it, lay it out, print it, and ship it. And during that 6-12 month gap, lots of people complain that the expansion isn't available. Somehow I'm guessing the publisher isn't rushing to do that.

And as others have said, the first editions aren't awful. It's not like people are being tricked into buying something bad. There are plenty of rave reviews for the old expansions that remain perfectly valid. And some may even prefer the first editions.

As for a fire sale, who's eating that cost?

It was a known issue, but what’s your suggested solution? Would it be better for Collection to have a confusing, hard-to-remember wording? It would be be great if the combo never came up in random sets online.

A possible solution could be to change the wording for Collection to "..., when you gain an Action card from the Supply, ...".

That was considered, I believe. Is that worth losing all the other non-Supply combos with Collection though? And will casual players remember that clause when it comes up so seldom?

Even more nuts than Collection + Stampede: Collection + Cavalry + Academy + Way of the Butterfly.

Yes, this actually happened.

I just got into a game that was completely broken because of Collection + Stampede. It would be an endless game if the other player wouldn't resign. I think that's broken game design.

I also do not expect the next expansion to be released this year so as to keep the expansions spaced out.

It's public knowledge at this point that there is a whole new expansion planned for this year. There may be delays of course, but so far everything seems to be moving along swiftly. I'm normally pessimistic about releases and even I think it has a pretty decent shot at coming out this year.

I will say from playtesting experience that the Telescope effect is super nuts. I'm guessing it's too strong for an Artifact like this. Luckily it's very easy to tone down by tweaking the number of cards, if you should decide to do so.

72
The start of your turn is basically the best time to draw cards, so it’s quite possible Supplies is better than Peddler. It just depends on how much the first play hurts you.

I’m guessing 450 cards plus metal tokens and mats is a no-go.

74
Even here, the first response on this thread is a veteran player snarkily telling someone not to play with more than 2p.

Awaclus is a prolific jerk. There's not much the rest of us can do about that, sadly.

75
Definitely agree it’s the competitive crowd who doesn’t like attacks. From my experience, I don’t think the idea of “not seeing your deck” that was a strike against Ambassador and Ghost Ship could really carry much weight with casuals who never draw their deck anyways. My friends definitely get frustrated when they draw two curses and an estate for their next hand, but they weren’t going to do much more than play two horses and a Workshop anyways, so it’s not hampering them nearly as much as someone who would’ve drawn deck otherwise.

It would make sense that casuals complain about attack more often in the sense that competitive players are more likely to be able to deal with the attacks well, but it is definitely the competitive players who complain about slow games. The casuals play slow games by default.

Source: am a casual, play with super-casuals, bummed about the attacks leaving.

Your assertions about competitive players don't ring true to me. Also, "casual players" are far from a monolithic bloc.

Expert players are much better at playing around harsh Attacks. They're less affected by them. And I'm surprised at how easily you brush off your friends' frustration. That's exactly what these changes are trying to fix. Being frustrated like that sucks!
