Are you saying you didn't have the decency to inform him after the first time he made the mistake?
I figured someone was going to bring this up and also one of the reasons why I posted this. It would be the nice thing to do, but competitive games are not about being nice. Opinions?
I would def def point it out the first time, not even close.
... still wouldnt blame anyone for not doing that though, to each his own imo.

It wouldn't be productive to remove the auto-play treasure button, as you can already click individual treasures... seems like it would be your fault if you avoid that and auto-play...

Have like some sort of "play all but gold/silver/copper/each treasure" buttons? Seems a little much to have for EVERY turn in a game with farmlands...

It might just be nice to have the red ?! If you have more than $6 in hand (can play $6 without playing all your treasure) and Farmland is on the board I guess.
For the record, I would HATE this. It would slow these games down SO MUCH. Yeah, we get used to auto-clicking, but there's really not a great way of handling this particular problem that doesn't make a bigger problem elsewhere, as far as I can see. Unless the thing can read your mind.

I guess some kind of a warning like grand market has (?!?, red color) would work pretty well? You'd have to click twice every time you have 6+ with farmland on board, wouldnt slow it down all that much?

Undo button would be even better, it would also help with accidentally playing something when you are looking to buy a mint or a grand market.

14808
back to the actual topic:

#1 for me would be autoplaying all my treasure in the endgame with farmland on board (its bad enough to make me often veto farmland just to avoid this).

MrEevee wins 4-3 over lespeteure.

We played every game with 4 cards from alchemy and even that felt a bit over the tob tbh. I was hoping to play fun university-vineyards or scrying pool engines, all we got was familiar races and a torturer pin for the deciding game. Some of the boards were very annoying to play, because shuffle luck played a huuge role and having the winner decided by turn 10 generally doesnt make for very interesting dominion. (Note: none of this frustration is directed towards my opponent (who was very nice) or the guys running this tournament (you are doing an awesome job). We just got very unlucky with the boards is all.)

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-130321-c9f7c397.html
lespeteure 32 - MrEevee 36
My opponent draws 5-2 as the first player on a board that looks like vault-BM to me. He tries to go for some kind of a vineyard thing with pawns, I buy two vaults which proves to be better. This was perhaps the only game in the series where one of us clearly messed up.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-132101-3bb6dd5a.html
lespeteure 47 - MrEevee 83
This game fell absolutely beautiful for me, my opponent got unlucky in the beginning and I took an early lead and built a pretty fun engine. Definitely the nicest game of the set for me.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-132734-eb5241d2.html
lespeteure 35 - MrEevee 11
5-2 is dreadful for me here, I open potion - secret chamber looking to get lucky with familiar or possession while my opponent plays fairly straightforward masquerade-big money. The best part of this game was that it didnt last very long.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-133643-d78b8446.html
MrEevee 25 - lespeteure 39
Apothecary + alchemist, I probably make some mistakes somewhere, he has a big deck quality lead right from the beginning, I'm never able to catch up.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-134205-1c631c5c.html
MrEevee 48 - lespeteure 54
Really weak board with apothecary, gardens and festival being the key cards (with some philosophers stones in the mix). I never draw 5 to buy a festival, my opponent gets two and a 6-2 gardens split. My better economy has me buying provinces more often and having a safe-looking leading right until the last turn where my opponent draws two philosophers stones to double province and win. I really thought I had it, but lespeteure played this better so it was certainly a deserved (albeit a bit dramatic) win.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-134904-1cedcab7.html
MrEevee 48 - lespeteure 33
Familiar + golem + university + plenty of good actions to grab with it. I draw 2 + potion on turn 4 but the university proves to be very valuable with grabbing laboratories and monuments. I think lespeteures decision to favor border villages over golds is definitely a mistake here.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/16/game-20120416-135809-da05419f.html
lespeteure 7 - MrEevee 9
So it's 3-3 and we both go for the very obvious university - torturer pin in the deciding game. He has awful shuffle luck in the early game, I draw very bad in the middle but yet again early luck proves to be more useful as I finally get some villages and tortures in the same hand and manage to play 6 torturers on turn 15. I decide to empty the villages with my university (torturers were already out and there was just 1 curse left), my opponent started his next turn with a 2 card hand and I had a 4 point lead. He plays a village then a torturer, I take the curse knowing he wont have enough of an economy to even get a duchy, he has to settle for an estate and I manage to end a very close game on my opponents turn which is somewhat unusual.

Thanks for the games lespeteure, definitely feels good to beat such a strong player. As a side note, playing tournament matches is really fun, I notice myself concentrating a lot better and generally trying much harder than I otherwise would.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Possession
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:48:04 am »
I generally think there is just the right amount of variance in dominion (and fwiw i gamble for a living, variance per ce doesnt really annoy me). However with possession the thing is, all the variance it creates is emotionally negative. Now that I'm typing this, I realize you could say all the attacks are not enjoyable with the same argument, but I just feel possession forces us to hope our opponent gets unlucky so we can reap the benefits. So many times I've gone "blahh there goes my only gold, see you next shuffle", I dont ever recall thinking "yayy possession is fun".

This could very well just be me though.

And no, I dont think its a good card and I would guess I'm a slight winner with it just by ignoring it often.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Possession
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:36:08 am »
It's a very cool card. For some reason it's hated by a lot of people. In Magic the Gathering there's a card called Mindslaver that does pretty much the exact same thing, yet people don't hate the card.

It's just not fun at all, especially so because of the variance there is in which hands your opponent steals from you.
(It's well balanced and all that, but still my second most hated card because of the frustration it often causes.)

I somehow always feel especially good after winning with a card that's usually garbage. This was probably my first time actually getting anything out of counting house, and oh boy was it good for me here.

— MrEevee's turn 28 —
   MrEevee plays a Counting House.
... putting 12 Coppers from the discard pile into the hand.
MrEevee plays a Silver and 14 Coppers.
   MrEevee buys a Colony.
(MrEevee draws: a Colony, a Counting House, and 3 Coppers.)

— MrEevee's turn 29 —
   MrEevee plays a Counting House.
... putting 14 Coppers from the discard pile into the hand.
   MrEevee plays 17 Coppers.
   MrEevee buys a Colony.
   (MrEevee reshuffles.)
   (MrEevee draws: a Worker's Village, a Monument, a Colony, and 2 Coppers.)

1. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-075827-777f4967.html
MrEevee 65 - luliin 80
Wharf-BM mirror with colonies. I go first, dont even draw bad, still lose. Dont know where I misplayed if I did though.

2. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-080253-7bc3167f.html
luliin 23 - MrEevee 50
luliin goes for ambassador-ambassador, I open silver-smithy and bigmoney my way to a pretty easy win. I drew well but ambassador looks really ineffective here, i was feeling confident when he opened with one, when he got the 2nd i felt it was almost gg. Didnt even defend myself with lighthouses.

3. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-081031-6907e76f.html
luliin 37 - MrEevee 45
I mirror his silver-mining village, he transitions into wharf-BM by trashing his MV, I have trouble getting to 5 so not only do I keep mine, I actually buy a couple more. MV-wharf engine prevails (trashing them for money in the end is good!), I manage to win. Really close one, I felt I was significantly behind but somehow got there. Mining village is a card I dont feel I play all that well.

4. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-082551-7d9baf3d.html
luliin 30 - MrEevee 43
Very interesting and fun board, it's very nice to see develop shine. I got to 8 with a tactician in hand several times in the end game, makes me feel like buying the tactician was a mistake even though it was probably just bad luck. I buy two potions to score me some 5 point vineyards but draw them always at the wrong time and just province away to the victory. Dont really understand how I got to 8 here this often.

5. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-083304-01142de7.html
luliin 29 - MrEevee 39
Lookout-seahag into governors for us both. I invest pretty heavily on lighthouses and buy some gold, he gets more governors. Happy with how I played, especially the end game.

6. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-083744-4895828f.html
luliin 39 - MrEevee 49
My money is bigger (luckier) in a pretty straightforward island-bazaar mirror. Smugglers is really good for 2nd player.

7. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/11/game-20120411-084423-daebcf05.html
luliin 27 - MrEevee 45
luliin goes for fishing village-pirate ship, I counter with fishing village - navigator aiming to buy a mint asap to cripple his pirate ships. I manage to do just that and trash 3 coppers on turn 4, meaning he can only get his ships up to 4. When my deck gets thicker I buy a gold which I then mint 4 times, outpost is really good for my deck (especially so because of menageries). Really happy with how I played this one too.

Thanks for the games luliin, good luck for future rounds.

Eevee wins 5-2 vs Mangsky.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-090016-71b94030.html
Eevee  27 - Mangsky 22
A hunting party game, I open with swindler-silver (should have gone for silver-swindler), my opponent surprisingly prefers scout with his swindler which i dont really get (there are nobles on board, dont see them being important at all). All the swindling makes hunting parties a lot less effective (turning them into duchies and coppers into curses for more variety), but I'm able to keep a fairly safe lead all the way. Mangsky accidentally buys the last province to end it for me (he didnt notice my swindler hit his the previous turn) but it doenst really matter, i was going to win anyways.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-091327-9d38fe5d.html
Mangsky 18 - Eevee 17
A really fun engine game, ironworks, great hall, conspirator, steward and pawn being the most important components. Very very close, Mangski is able to drain the 3rd pile gaining 3 pawns in the last turn (great halls and conspirators were already out) and also buy a duchy and an estate for a 1 point win (he had played a contraband and provinces were prohibited). I feel this could have gone either way.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-092015-f7d33a97.html
Eevee  42 - Mangsky 22
Game with sea hag where no sea hags are ever bought due to masquarade. I open masq-silver, mangski goes for bishop-masq.  Hunting parties are good. I win.

I lost the log on the next game, but mangski opens mint-crossroads while i go for bridge silver. Mangski's gamble doesnt really work out while i manage to get rid of most of my coppers with a mint and then continue to build a pretty nice minion-crossroads-bridge engine with some menagerie support. Mangski resigns quite early on.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-092458-80abea6e.html
Mangsky 26 - Eevee 37
I play doublejack with 2 minions and harems, mangski opens swindler-jack (and actually trashes the swindler on turn 8?). Booring game, I win.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-094213-fec9fb1b.html
Mangsky 27 - Eevee 21
This was such a sad game. I pretty much always veto familiar so i'm probably super bad with it, but i would still had assumed i could at least make it closer than this when my opponents draws the dreadful 2 + potion on turn 4 (although my potion misses the shuffle too). Dont know what happened, i got absolutely destroyed. Once again hunting party is the important card, shouldnt let your opponent get 8 of those.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/02/game-20120402-100004-de1ad3f7.html
Eevee  28 - Mangsky 25
Very unusual board, we both go for border village-torturer and transition to vineyards (and in his case golems) later. In my final turn i buy a great hall to hit 15th action card which pumpss my 4 vineyards up 1 each and then buy a great hall and a curse to pile it for a 3 point win, very close and intense game. I think my opponent not buying any herbalists did it for me here, topdecking those potions was pretty awesome. I think i could play this better if I got a second chance at it though.

Nice games, nice playing with you mangsky.

Rabid 4 - MrEevee 3   (8 - 6)

A really close match, I went 0-3 down, then my luck improved and I managed the 4-0 comeback.

Game 1

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-114402-0fb0ac74.html
Adventurer, Bureaucrat, Contraband, Feast, Highway, Horse Traders, Potion, Remodel, Thief, Throne Room, and Transmute
49 MrEevee, Bureaucrat / Silver
37 Rabid, Contraband / nothing
(Maybe remodel would be better here, in an attempt to stop getting hit by Bureaucrat?)

We were tied at 37 all with only 2 prov no other VPs remaining.
Both added remodels to try for the last provs. I lost the race.

Nothing too special here, 5-2 makes it pretty hard for Rabid. I generally love bureaucrat, this was no exception. I think both my strategy and actual gameplay were good here.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 2

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-120510-d88e014e.html
Bazaar, Cartographer, Chapel, Council Room, Goons, Militia, Thief, Throne Room, Treasury, and Woodcutter

74 Rabid Chapel / Silver
121 Me Eevee Chapel / Militia

We both go for Chapel into council room / bazaar / TR / Goons
The early Militia misses, and I think I am ahead in the midgame.
Turn 16 mistake from MrEevee (buying 2nd to last bazaar & 2nd to last goons), gives me a chance to 3 pile with 5 buys + $22, I get to $21 and loose.

Militia was no good this time, figured it might be super helpful with slowing down Rabid's chapeling. If I think I played the last game well, here I made at least 2 stupid gameplay mistakes which shouldnt really happen (chapeling my only silver away on turn 15 when it was pretty clear I'd start most of the turns with 3 cards i got to pick from 7 so the extra silver didnt really make it at all harder to get through my deck) and ofc almost allowing Rabid to end it on piles for the win. This was obviously a lot closer than the numbers suggest.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 3
MrEevee Wins IGG game on Provinces Missing log sorry.
Interesting sidenote, IGG-rush ended with IGG's, curses and provinces gone (only one duchy and
one estate left too i think). This was just first player and drawing well enough to match Rabid's provinces.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 4

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122013-b7a7febd.html
Adventurer, Bureaucrat, Council Room, Cutpurse, Feast, Ill-Gotten Gains, Militia, Moat, Oasis, and Trader

34 Rabid (Trader Silver)
25 MrEevee (Trader Silver)

I think this is just a 1st player win for me.
Was actually surprised I lost this one (seemingly clearly too), after falling behind a bit in economy in the beginning I was able to turn the curses Rabid's IGG handed into silvers on both turn 11 and turn 12 (having two traders to Rabid's one clearly helped). I guess Rabid's economy was just too good, but the province-blitz was certainly a surprise.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 5

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-122625-5a2b2577.html
Bank, Festival, Golem, Militia, Mine, Monument, Nobles, Potion, Spy, Village, and Witch

38 MrEevee (Silver / Monument)
47 Rabid (Silver, Militia)

Racing for Witch In this game, Militia seemed like the better opening to me.
Although Monument can be really good in some long curse games.
Another very close game, Monument + Prov on the penultimate turn would have won it, but only got to $6, and I have the $8 for the win.
Curious about this, do other people agree with Rabid on militia being preferable to monument here? Militia actually helps me sum with terminal collision and more importantly with no trashing I'll be discarding curses and estates for the most part. Monument however produces oh so valuable victory points and can really help me in the end game if it gets very drawn out.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 6

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-123746-bfb69951.html
Chancellor, Council Room, Feast, Inn, Library, Lighthouse, Sea Hag, Spy, Thief, and Young Witch ( Tunnel♦ )

20 MrEevee (Silver / SeaHag)
31 Rabid (Tunnel / YoungWitch)

Hardest opening of the match I think.
MrEevee buys Tunnel on Turn 4, and has it in hand on Turn 5 to Bane my Turn 4 attack.
I loose the curse split 7-1 but I think the tunnels slow down MrEevee as much as the curses slow me, and I get some free golds from discarding tunnels.
Clearly outplayed here, I did know tunnel-young witch is killer good, apparently it is even when it cant hand out curses. It has to be somewhat terrible shuffle luck too to reach 5 only once before turn 21 but my strategy here was just sad. An early inn would have helped me tremendously, so in hindsight using my only 5 to grab a lighthouse doesnt feel too good either. Nice game by Rabid.

Quote from: Rabid
Game 7

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201203/26/game-20120326-124733-35ea44c9.html
Baron, Cellar, Feast, Library, Militia, Moneylender, Salvager, Spy, Tournament, and Trading Post

35 MrEevee (Trading Post / Cellar)
45 Rabid (Baron / Silver)

My Baron behaves, appearing with Estates the first 4 times I draw it.
Another close game, Eevee could win with the last prov, but on the 2nd try I get $8 and the match.
Didnt really like my 5-2, baron comboes super well with tournament. Wound up getting really lucky to hit the first prize, couldnt make the game long enough for followers to turn it around.  Not that happy with my play here, playing cellar and discarding one on turn 13 made my followers miss the next shuffle which was just absolutely terrible. Should stop making these mistakes, especially in tournament matches.

to me its about competition, outsmarting your opponent and winning by figuring out the game / the board better. the most fun i could have playing* would probably be realizing something like ironworks-great hall-conspirator is better than your standard boring smithy-bm or whatever and beating my opponent that way. tells something about my personality?

*no really it would be beating a top player with a scout-based strategy, one of these days.
