.. that left my opponent with 45 coppers and 86 cards. No idea how this board should be played though.

General Discussion / Winter
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:00:09 pm »
So it's 15.2 celsius (59 fahrenheit for those of you who don't know the metric system, as a side note you should learn it)  INSIDE here, don't even want to think what it's like outside (probably not that cold, no idea why they aren't heating this place at all).

WINTER, SUCKITUDE. DISCUSS.

First time for everything. It was pretty strong for a big money strategy too. Nice little interaction I hadn't thought of before.

Game Reports / fun with scrying pool and secret chamber
« on: October 04, 2012, 11:12:18 pm »
Everyone probably knows this combo already, but this was the first time I got to use it to the fullest. Featuring buying a woodcutter for $32 and a secret chamber for $24 (I probably misplayed it rather bad, as I said first time doing this).

Opponent (level 33 or something) went for the gardens-secret chamber opening, which didn't quite work out this time. I'm glad he let me play it out though.

Here is the log:

Introductions / It's me, Eevee!
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:43:04 pm »
I've been meaning to do this for a long time, and since I'm busy procrastinating at the moment, it's finally time. It seems I registered here in the beginning of this year, I think I was reading the articles for a couple of months before that. I recall registering to participate in a tournament, in which I took a hilarious beating losing every single match. It was really fun though, and got me posting on the other areas of the forum as well (well, I haven't really posted that much if you exclude the forum games section). I used to be really excited about dominion, but don't play nearly as much these days (combination of goko and forum mafia and maybe me starting to suck at the game for some reason). Nowadays my dominion playing is super casual, I tend to explore fun and interesting strategies rather than maximize my win chances. Back when I "played well" (peaked at level 44), I was a big money / alt vp - type of a player, probably because I learnt everything I knew from WW's videos, so it's not exactly a wonder this "building fun engines" style doesn't result in that many wins. I don't own any of the games physically and have never tried Goko, so I've never played any dark ages, would sure be interested though. Would anyone happen to know if getting a copy of the dark ages to Finland would be possible already? I'm sure none of the stores have it yet as it hasn't been translated. I'd even have a friend who is better than me at the game, (doesn't post here), so could definitely be tons of fun.

Oh yeah, backwards intro post is backwards, I'm 21 years old, surprisingly male and from Finland. I live in Helsinki (the capital) with my girlfriend and play poker for a living (heads up, 5-10 to 10-20 for the poker players around). Surely love my job! For hobbies, I started a floorball team with some friends this spring, and also do some racket sports (mainly table tennis and padel, also some tennis but I suck at it / think it's too hard to be fun). Because of the poker thing, my sleep schedule is often super wacky (typing this at 6:33am, haven't slept yet). I probably drink a little too often, but it is so so very fun. One of the more time consuming hobbies lately has also been forum mafia, which is also a big reason I still spend a lot of time on this site, despite semi-losing interest in dominion. This community is awesome though, so this is definitely not one of those farewell posts. It also got long, but ohwell, I'm sure it'll still earn me an upvote or two.

Oh and if you've never tried forum mafia, I highly recommend it. It's pretty awesome!

Game Reports / A semi-ok 3card combo
« on: September 20, 2012, 04:36:35 am »
Starting to get back to playing dominion again after not feeling it for a while, thought I'd post a game here too even though it isn't anything too exciting.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201209/20/game-20120920-012510-a1eb4ef4.html

I open loan-salvager, buy a lot treasuries (over gold on turn 7 and over province/gold on turn 8) while getting rid of bad cards, finally salvaging the loan and utilizing salvager to end the game before my deck stalls. I generally despise loan in non-engine decks, but this felt pretty cool. There probably isn't anything faster on the board this time anyways, so maybe this particular game isn't a very good example, but I'm thinking this would maybe be competitive against all but the very strongest big money strategies.

Game Reports / 35 turns

Featuring both players buying a potion and getting grand total of 1 alchemist combined. It was really cool just buying nothing turn after turn, always topdecking the schemes even though they were the only actions that did anything anymore.
Ughhh.

Might've been the longest 2p game I've ever played.

Game Reports / Since i posted one where Obi Wan owned me

I somehow always feel especially good after winning with a card that's usually garbage. This was probably my first time actually getting anything out of counting house, and oh boy was it good for me here.

— MrEevee's turn 28 —
   MrEevee plays a Counting House.
... putting 12 Coppers from the discard pile into the hand.
MrEevee plays a Silver and 14 Coppers.
   MrEevee buys a Colony.
(MrEevee draws: a Colony, a Counting House, and 3 Coppers.)

— MrEevee's turn 29 —
   MrEevee plays a Counting House.
... putting 14 Coppers from the discard pile into the hand.
   MrEevee plays 17 Coppers.
   MrEevee buys a Colony.
   (MrEevee reshuffles.)
   (MrEevee draws: a Worker's Village, a Monument, a Colony, and 2 Coppers.)

Game Reports / golden deck not so golden?

Didn't really see myself losing when I got my golden deck up and running by turn 8. But then..
