Hmm, a tie for 30th. Well, at least it got some votes.

One of these days, I suppose I'll have to design a card where the card name isn't so highly tied in with its mechanics.

2152
This looks like a good game; I'm up for it.

Poorhouse: Looks great in Treasureless decks and other decks that can discard Treasure cards easily (eg, decks with Secret Chamber and the like). Not so hot in money decks, but why would you be buying $1 cards in a money deck?

Sage: Could be handy for engines in the absence of trashing. You don't need to trash your Estates, Coppers and Curses if you can just Sage past them. Combos quite nicely with Highway, especially with Tunnel in the mix.

Graverobber: Oooooh. I can't tell how good this card is by looking at it, but it looks fun. Which might be better than good.

I have never heard the idiom "between the devil and the deep blue sea" before.  I was under the impression Anglophones were supposed to say "between a rock and a hard place."
They're both reasonably common English phrases.

If its turn 3 you can't have a baron because you spent your 4 on the remake.
Noble Brigand says otherwise.

You forgot the biggest one: Diadem. :)
But you need a province to get Diadem  ;)

Not necessarily. There's a puzzle in there somewhere but I don't think it's interesting enough.
Thief, Possession, Masquerade

Interesting. Were Fenugreek and Parsley submitted with the same card name?

You missed out University, although there are only three Victory cards it can gain anyway, and one of those only with cost reduction in place.

2158
Cottage
$2
Action - Duration
+2 Actions, +1 Card. While ~ is in play, at the beginning of your opponents' turns, they get +1 Action.
Assuming ~ means "this card", this card (as written) acts identically to Village. Assuming this isn't the intended effect, you may want to give it a next-turn effect.

The rule for competitive chess, incidentally, is that if an illegal move is discovered before the game is finished, you have to roll the game state back to the move the illegal move was played, and then carry on from there.

What?  Page 3 and no Arrow's Impossibility Theorem?

f.ds, i am disappoint
OK, here's a mention of Arrow's Impossibility Theorem: there are voting systems to which it does not apply, and Approval Voting is one of them.

My personal choice would be Range Voting: each voter assigns each card a score between 0 and 9 inclusive, and the card with the highest total score wins.

Watchtower

a fantastic defensive card which lives up to it's name, it successfully counters both cursing and hand size reduction attacks. offers incredible utility and is one of the few (only?) action cards which can provide a benefit even when you draw it dead.
Not quite only - Trader is another member of that category.

Cards have card art?  :P

I'll vote for City, because as mentioned in the card's article, it's brilliantly thematic: cities start out as villages, and grow bigger and more powerful as time goes on. The mechanics are also good from a strategic point of view - you know they'll be all-powerful by the end, but can you afford the time taken to get there? And it's also a good fit for Prosperity: it's like a Village, but bigger, and it's better in Colony games.

Artisan
Cost: $2
Action-Attack

Shuffle the Artisan deck and reveal the top card of it. Each player gains a copy of the revealed card.

Setup: Make an Artisan deck containing 2 Estates, 2 Coppers, 1 Curse, 1 Silver

Are you sure you want "Each player" rather than "Every other player" in there? A card that has a 5/6 probability of giving you a piece of junk is almost certainly not worth playing.

While this is in play, you may not gain a copy of (this card name here)
So what happens if one of these is in play, and somebody Swindles a card into it?

GROUP A:

Russia (4) v Greece (1), Czech Republic (3) v Poland (2)

No team is definitely through, no team is definitely out.

RUSSIA WIN, CZECH REPUBLIC WIN OR DRAW: Russia winners, Czech Republic runners-up.

RUSSIA WIN, CZECH REPUBLIC LOSE: Russia winners, Poland runners-up.

RUSSIA DRAW, CZECH REPUBLIC WIN: Czech Republic winners, Russia runners-up.

RUSSIA DRAW, CZECH REPUBLIC DRAW: Russia winners, Czech Republic runners-up.

RUSSIA DRAW, CZECH REPUBLIC LOSE: Russia and Poland qualify. If Poland's winning margin is less than 3, Russia are group winners; if it is more than 3, Poland are group winners. If Poland beat the Czechs by exactly 3 goals, it comes down to goals scored overall. (Currently Russia have 5, Poland 2.)

RUSSIA LOSE, CZECH REPUBLIC WIN: Czech Republic winners, Greece runners-up.

RUSSIA LOSE, CZECH REPUBLIC DRAW: Poland are out and the other three teams are tied on four points, with the Czech Republic's goal difference fixed at -2. Before this game, Russia's was +3 and Greece's -1, so if Greece win by:
1 or 2 goals: Russia winners, Greece runners-up (separated by goals scored in the latter case).
3 to 5 goals: Greece winners, Russia runners-up (again, goals scored keeps Russia ahead of the Czech Republic in the latter case).
6 or more goals: Greece winners, Czech Republic runners-up.

RUSSIA LOSE, CZECH REPUBLIC LOSE: Poland winners, Greece runners-up.

GROUP B:

Germany (6) v Denmark (3); Portugal (3) v Netherlands (0)

No team is definitely through; no team is definitely out.

...Netherlands win by 2 or more goals: Netherlands runners-up.
...Netherlands win by 1 goal and score 2 or more: Portugal runnners-up.
...Netherlands win 1-0: it comes down to overall goal difference in the group. If Germany beat Denmark by...
...more than 1 goal, Portugal are runners-up.
...one goal with Denmark scoring, Denmark are runners-up on goals scored.
...1-0, it goes to coefficients.

GERMANY DRAW, PORTUGAL WIN OR DRAW: Germany winners, Portugal runners-up.

GERMANY DRAW, PORTUGAL LOSE:
Germany winners, Denmark runners-up.

GERMANY LOSE, PORTUGAL WIN:
Netherlands are eliminated. The other three teams are tied on 6 points. If Denmark beat Germany by:
more than one goal, Denmark are winners, Portugal runners-up.
1-0: Denmark and Portugal qualify. Portugal win the group unless their win against Netherlands is precisely 1-0, in which case it goes to coefficients.
2-1: Denmark winners, Portugal runners-up.
3-2: Denmark winners. Portugal runners-up if they beat Netherlands by more than one goal, or by 1 goal with a 3-2 or greater scoreline. Germany will be runners-up if Portugal win 1-0. If Portugal win 2-1, it goes to coefficients.
4-3 or greater scoreline: Denmark winners, Germany runners-up.

GERMANY LOSE, PORTUGAL DRAW OR LOSE: Denmark winners, Germany runners-up.

GROUP C:

Spain (4) v Croatia (4), Italy (2) v Republic of Ireland (0).

No teams are definitely through, Republic of Ireland are definitely out.

SPAIN WIN, ITALY WIN: Spain winners, Italy runners-up.

SPAIN WIN, ITALY DRAW OR LOSE: Spain winners, Croatia runners-up.

SPAIN DRAW, ITALY WIN: Spain, Croatia and Italy all tie on 5 points. If the Spain-Croatia scoreline is:

0-0: Italy winners, Spain runners-up.
1-1: All rests on the Italy-Republic of Ireland game. If Italy win by:
...1 goal: Spain winners, Croatia runners-up.
...2 goals: Spain winners. If Italy win ...2-0, Croatia are runners-up. If Italy win 4-2 or any higher scoreline, Italy are runners-up. If Italy win 3-1, it goes to coefficients.

2-2 or any higher-scoring draw: Spain winners, Croatia runners-up.

SPAIN DRAW, ITALY DRAW OR LOSE: Spain winners, Croatia runners-up.

SPAIN LOSE, ITALY WIN: Croatia winners, Italy runners-up.

SPAIN LOSE, ITALY LOSE OR DRAW: Croatia winners, Spain runners-up.

GROUP D:

England (4) v Ukraine (3); France (4) v Sweden (0)

No team are definitely through; Sweden are definitely out.

ENGLAND WIN, FRANCE WIN: England and France qualify. If France match or better England's winning margin, France are group winners. If England better France's winning margin by two goals or more, England are group winners.
If England's winning margin is exactly one more than France's, it comes down to goals scored: if England score at least as many as France, England are group winners; if France score at least two more than England, France are group winners. If France score exactly one more than England, it goes to coefficients.

ENGLAND WIN, FRANCE DRAW OR LOSE: England winners, France runners-up.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Meanest thing in Dominion
« on: May 31, 2012, 03:49:46 pm »
I voted Ghost Ship, but I am thinking in particular of a game where I was using Governors to draw my entire deck and then finishing it off with Ghost Ship, forcing my opponent to put about 8 cards back on his deck each time.
Nice one. I once managed to do a similar thing with Governor/Black Market/Minion, which might be even meaner (they don't even have the benefit of choosing what they're suddenly-reduced hand is).

Secret Chamber, and lots of Attacks.  Any Attacks.  Really, Secret Chamber is the key here.
But for added bonus points: Secret Chamber and Minion. The analysis paralysis there can be hilarious.

2172
I'm OK with the P-Stone because it's a corner case (it's come up here before) and it's information that I could know anyway and have literally never cared about, but certainly an (admittedly minor) part of the bureaucrat or cutpurse attack is that I get to see my opponent's hand sometimes.
Sure, but the only reason that's the case is for accountability's sake. If the game were designed to be played electronically from day one, those cards wouldn't need that clause in the first place.
That may be the reason they originally got given the clause, but that clause's being in there results in corner cases that make use of being able to see your opponents' hands (Minion, Possession and Masquerade can all use the information, for example).

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Catacomb (Reaction idea)
« on: May 25, 2012, 12:59:45 pm »
The reaction is the main idea here.  It's something that combos nicely with cards that discard, e.g. Warehouse, Cellar, Secret Chamber, vault.  It makes double-Tactician much easier.  It also counters discard attacks.  Any thoughts on this?
If I'm reading this right, if Catacomb is the only other card in your hand when you play Tactician and you reveal Catacomb, you won't actually discard it so that Tactician won't be triggered.
You're not reading it right. It's a "when you discard this" reaction, not a "when you would discard this" one.

5$
Matchmaker
+2 actions
Draw 5 cards then put 5 cards back on your deck in any order.
All other players draw 1 card and put 1 card back on their deck.
Hmmm, interesting card. I'm not normally going to want to pay $5 for a Village with no net draw, but in the right kingdom, it could be insanely powerful.
