Goko Dominion Online / Re: Number of games on Goko
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:17:57 am »
Man, I haven't played Dominion in over two months. Every time I think of trying to start playing again, their site is crashed. Must be a sign. Time to move on with my life...

I have all cards and sometimes I would have to wait a minute or two. Haven't played in 6 weeks though because of my job, right around all these shenanigans with Goko started.

So, having played very little Dark Ages due to no more Iso... how do you play Rebuild anyway? Is it just: (Assuming 3/4) Open Silver/Silver equivalent; buy Rebuild with your first few $5s (how many?) then buy Duchies with $5; buy Silver or equivalent with < $5? Do you want to turn Estates into Duchies or Duchies into Provinces first?

Usually that is how you play it. You can also sneak in a terminal in there since Rebuild is no terminal, but Sea Hag or whatever tends to not do much good since it doesn't provide $

Mistake card is a mistake. Oh well. I would say it is the only real "mistake" in Dominion. I mean yah we have Scout. But, better to be underpowered than just broken.

Vineyards looks strong, but if your opponent ignored Cultist and went Rebuild, I am curious as to what would have happened.

Game Reports / Re: I won a game with Diadem

I'm one of those people that almost never takes Diadem.  But it got me the win here: http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20131127/log.505e9c9c0cf2ef979299a7c0.1385608766347.txt

I thought this was a pretty interesting board, I'm not sure how well I played it.  But I made some good Inn buys and that makes me happy, and winning when your opponent gets Followers T9 is always a treat.

(Also: thanks for the game, Polk)

I usually choose Diadem over Bag of Gold. Sometimes, I even take it over Princess. I think it is an underrated prize.

Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway

Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Highway
Dominion plays Swindler
You trash Isotropic
You gain Goko

I thought Highway could not reduce the price of something to below zero?
So what happens if you play a Poor House and have a Goko in hand.

We don't need to buy Goko. We just need to get the digital license to Dominion.

Or would it be bought at a fire-sale price as a potentially "going concern"? Meaning that someone will take over the version of Dominion that Goko has developed and try maintain / develop it in some direction? Would there be anything salvageable from this debacle?

Now there's an idea... I wonder how much investors would be willing to get to sell Goko and if that amount would be in the ballpark of what a Kickstarter could raise

Are you suggesting we use this forum to start a Kickstarter to buy Goko Dominion??? If so, maybe we can get Isotropic back but instead with official art.

Weren't they planning on adding a host of different games once they got going?

They have a Catan game that was being playtested. I have no idea what happened to that. Plus, a couple of months ago, Dominion iOs was supposed to launch. Again, I have no idea what happened to that.

Online bridge all day

FOLKS, bridge is a beautiful, intricate game, easily the best ever invented for the standard deck of cards, and it is dying because only the elderly play it. Spend some time learning (it takes a year or so to be any good), you won't regret it.

I actually play a lot of bridge, but I never play online. At this moment I consider that a huge advantage, and yes its a beautiful and very complex game. Good bridge players are much better at bridge then good dominion players are at playing dominion. I'm not even certain I'm better at Dominion then I am at bridge, and yet there are about 500 people in my country alone that play bridge better then I do. I don't agree bridge is dying though. And btw, neither is Dominion. Unless they keep Goko around for too long. Fortunately nobody can do something like that to bridge.

It would make sense that good Bridge players were better at the game than great Dominion players. Dominion is still a baby and with a lot more dynamics and changes.

EDIT: 4 months ago when Iso was long gone.

Hey! The Base Cards actually have art.

So, if I can KC the three games of Bridge that I'm playing, does that mean I win 9 games of Bridge?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Which expansion should I get next?

The expansion to buy next is called Goko. It provides the ultimate gaming experience. And, by that, I mean it includes such amazing tactical decisions such as whether or not to punch your computer monitor and scream obscenities at a game that goes nowhere.

I am a huge fan of pro mode. As another stated, playing with all the cards is how you get better at the game. A lot of times, people would just veto a card because they hated it and not for strategic reasons, and personally, I am not a fan of that.

Now, I really would like to have identical starting hands back.

Cornucopia is nice. It has a lot of favorite cards.

However, Dark Ages has to be my favorite expansion. Although, I didn't like it for a long time. It grew on me, but I feel that it offers the most strategy out of all the expansions, by far. But, since you aren't quite looking for that, Cornucopia is fine. However, I do think Guilds is pretty straightforward. When people talk about the complexity of Guilds, it isn't so much in relation to the cards but figuring out when to use coin tokens or make certain tactical decisions. Dark Ages on the other hand can make you really think.

lol, almost looks like Goko dislikes the point tracker but lacks both the self-assuredness to say so and the skills to fight it, so this passive-aggressive image is all they dare to do.

So, can we say that photo is a threat of sorts, or more or less Goko giving us the middle finger in a subtle way.

Where are the 2013 1st Ed. rankings for Prizes?  I found everything else but the prize cards.
I'm sorry to post here, I've looked everywhere.

Followers
Trusty Steed
Princess
Bag of Gold
Diadem

There, they've been ranked. ;D

Personally, I think Diadem is better than Bag of Gold. But, that's me.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: #vpany
« on: October 25, 2013, 06:49:27 pm »
This is a great idea, but usually the people without #vpon or #vpoff are people who don't visit the forum anyway, so a lot of them won't see this.

That doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be universal to be useful. Everyone who does this can get a (small) benefit from it, and I (and people like me) get a small benefit for everyone who does this.

I don't set my table either way, but I have it set in settings to vpon, so if I play against an opponent who dislikes the point tracker, they have the option to turn it off.

If this is for two-player then you are exactly the kind of player I'm making this suggestion to. Currently I wouldn't sit down at your table, because I wouldn't know if you were gonna #vpoff me. If you followed my suggestion I would sit down at your table. (For multiplayer it doesn't work of course, because the vpoffer could be some other player anyway.)

I thought about this problem a lot back in the iso days.  I had a weak preference FOR playing with the point tracker (at that point part of the Dominion client itself -- I'm not referencing the deck-tracking extension from those iso days).

But you could only choose auto match to find games where the point tracker was "allowed (or no preference)" or games where the point tracker was "disallowed (or no preference)."  Essentially, all players were pigeon-holed into one of three categories:

I must have the point tracker, and will only play an automatched game with it enabled.
I will have either the point tracker or no point tracker, and will play an automatched game with it enabled or disabled.
I must NOT have the point tracker, and will only play an automatched game with it disabled.

However, I think a slight modification would have been perfect for me:

I must have the point tracker, and will only play an automatched game with it enabled.
I would like to have the point tracker, but will still play an automatched game without it if my opponent has a preference against it.
I will have either the point tracker or no point tracker, and will play an automatched game with it enabled or disabled.
I would like to NOT have the point tracker, but will still play an automatched game with it if my opponent has a preference for it.
I must NOT have the point tracker, and will only play an automatched game with it disabled.

My ideal, back in the iso days, was to have this "weak preference" indicator.  If I indicated a strong preference, all of my matches would have the point counter.  If I indicated a strong preference against, all of my matches would not have it.  If I did not indicate a preference, and I was matched up with someone else who also didn't have a preference, we would play with no point counter. =(

Whereas, if I had a weak preference for the point counter (line 2 from my modifications), then we would still play with the point counter since my opponent had no preference either way.

I guess what I'm saying is that I had a preference, it just wasn't a make-or-break deal that iso pigeon-holed me into if I wanted to play with the point counter.

I like your idea.

Goko has not done a good marketing job or well much of anything to be honest.
