75%? Councilroom link? I was at ~60% for all my isotropic life (past the first couple months) and that was good enough to be near the top of the leaderboard, although admitedly I played much stronger opponents (average level ~35.6).

I definitely don't think the imbalance was as big on isotropic. I do think there were plenty of competent lvl 25-30ish players which any 45ish player would have had a hard time staying even on in the long run (my RL friend who I played a ton being a good example), but it wasn't even close to the kind of stuff you encounter on goko when you're 7150. With that rating, it seemed pretty much every opponent was just impossible to keep your rating against in the long run. Imagine playing some top15 or top20 player and having to score 75-80% to break even, it's ridiculous (in the context of Dominion, anyway, obviously something like chess would be a whole different story).

Edit: Basically, this "it's incredibly clear that they are way off, and they could adjust this"

I don't have a strong opinion if the ratings are "bad" either, but it does seem like it's pretty necessary to avoid playing low rated players if you want your own rating to stay high. Like, I feel like it's pretty weird to have a rating system in 2p Dominion where one player gains 7 points after a win and loses 120 points after a loss. That seems kinda harsh, although maybe that just means you're not supposed to have a rating that high, or something, though that seems pretty weird too.

This only works in multiplayer I assume? Like, I remember reading that at some point you could just quit in a 2p game and the rating wouldn't change, but I was under the impression that was fixed? But only for 2p?

I could start playing multiplayer and if I'm losing just close the browser and not lose points? Am I understanding this correctly?

I played a 4 player game. At some point right before the game was supposed to end, one of the players quit. The game immediately ended, no rating change happened.

Is this the way it's intended to work?

Worker's Village for sure. Although the new ones seem pretty sweet as well.

It's notable that listing "All Sets" both eliminates this fear for opponents and prevents you from getting joined by Base Set Heroes™ who have a good rating and no idea how to deal with half the cards. It's less a problem now, but it happened to me more than once earlier in Goko's lifetime.

I've definitely been like this when I've played in the last week, but only with Dark Ages cards. Hopefully my opponents didn't mind too much, but damn some of those cards are confusing!

Gaining 7-25 points when you win and losing 80-110 points when you lose is really soul crushing. This rating system is confusing me :( That is all.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: How fast do you expect people to play?
« on: April 24, 2013, 11:46:50 am »
I expect people to execute their moves competently, meaning they don't take 15 seconds to start their turn because they were busy making a sandwich, or they wait 8 seconds between every click on a Scrying Pool turn. Past that I'm certainly fine with thinking when it's necessary, and that probably describes my own playing speed pretty well too.

I've had a few complaints when playing on goko, which slightly surprises me as I used to be one of the fastest playing people on isotropic I think. That said, I guess it's not that surprising people are frustrated about games being slow, as that's been, like, one of the top complaints of goko going way back to the early beta. There are other possible explanations too, of course, but games on goko are just inherently pretty slow.

Ok if that game was ignored because of some bug, I guess that's.. not as bad (lol imagine someone typing this sentence anywhere outside of goko)

Uhm speaking of rating.. I just beat some guy a few times in a row, I gained like 60 points or 50 points or whatever per game.

Then I beat him 47-46 and I gained... 0 points.

I can't really find words to describe how bad this rating system is if that just happened (and it did)

Edit: In picture form:

Two weeks ago or so I beat Ixius who was #16 while I was ~#32, and I gained exactly zero points. No quit or even resign was involved...

Just to make sure, you don't lose more points from resigning than from losing normally, right?

Goko Dominion Online / Re: I Lost 30 Points for Tying My Opponent

Imagine it happening on isotropic, where I gain 0.05 in skill and 0.1 in uncertainty. Meanwhile you lose 0.02 in skill and gain 0.1 in uncertainity. Net result, I go up 0.15 levels and you go up 0.08 levels.

Same kinda deal on goko, except uncertainty isn't displayed in the rating. It still exists though.

Kirian,

Sure isotropic didn't have auto-match, and it did work pretty well. Perhaps a better way of phrasing it would be "Goko needs a lobby system which doesn't seem like it's an actual joke" or something, since it definitely is possible to have a non-awful lobby system which doesn't include auto-match.

That said, when they do go ahead and remake the lobby system from scratch (right? this is happening right?), go ahead and throw in the auto-matching. It's not like it will hurt.

ETA: Of my own big goko complaints, the game log/etc thing used to be the biggest one. The Chrome extension solved that one pretty well (no thanks to Goko of course). Now, a lobby system that isn't the actual worst designed thing I have ever seen and a good rating system are probably the two things holding me back from at least playing occasionally. I'm pretty sure they're never getting any money from me though, the enjoyment I used to have for this game, they've already killed.

lol.  was not expecting custom avatars on this thing.  what's next, replacing the buttons with text icons?

Holy shit a greasemonkey script turning goko into isotropic hype hype hype

Imagine how awesome this forum would have been if we had had fifteen billion threads like this every day for isotropic games for the last couple years. Damn you non-awful isotropic pairing system!

kyrmanakos 45 - 2 kyrman seems legit to you? Other than that, sure, but surely that invalidates his results? His winrate in games that aren't against himself is close to 0.5

Imagine my (or any top player's) ranking if I got ~40 free wins at the end of my career.

I guess I am the only one at the top feeling bad about his spot, like I stole #1 from -Stef-...

Well, I have to admit I'm also a little proud, finishing with a positive record yesterday against jonts26 and -Stef-.

3-2 against lespeutere, 3-1 against Stef, 2-2 against jonts yesterday. Suck it y'all!

Went from level 33 to 46 in the last 3 days, ended up in 12th place. Feels kinda nice to end up closeish to the top after a long absence.

While I'm posting images,

Since this file is never getting updated again, here are all (think there's like one or two exceptions in there, maybe) of my 2p games from Feb 1 2012 and on:

I wish I was just a little bit better at this game, but of course I realize a ~60% winrate against pretty skilled opposition is still pretty strong. I'd be interested in seeing other players' records, if you kept anything similar to this.

The second set of results/avg rating/winrate, below the first one, is counting games only against people at level X or higher. Apparently I had a positive winrate against "level 42 and up" (avg rating 45.18), at 165-163-9; above that and I fall below 50% (except against level 53's, where my lifetime record is 0-0-1!). Damn you Obi Wan and Stef!

Reminds me of the old days playing Magic: The Gathering online verus other people by finding an opponent in a chat room then typing out what we did each turn on AOL Instant Messenger.

And here I thought Apprentice qualified as the old days :(

Yeah Panda.

While I mostly lost interest in Dominion some time this summer and didn't play very much in the last 6+ months, there's no denying isotropic has taken up many many many hours of my life in the last 2 years, and pretty much every one of them enjoyable. <3 all around.

Didn't get to finish my 50th game of the day:

At least I ended with a win (would have been another one with a few more minutes). Thanks to eigensheep for being my last <3
