Two points ahead, only one Province left, and with less than $8 going into my buy phase. I can't remember exactly how much, but it was at least $5. I thought I would be unable to end the game, but then I realized: City-State and Butcher were also in the kingdom, and I had a Province in hand and 2 favors. So, I bought Butcher, used City-State on it, and trashed my Province for the last Province

Got a turn 1 Province with Inherited Animal Fair

Was that the right move? Dunno the Kingdom, but feels wrong to me...

Probably not, tbh, but I couldn't resist. Though, in the end I only lost by something like 2 or 3 points, so it didn't hurt that much

Shaman + Swindler can sometimes end up helping your opponent, depending on what cards it trashes, since they can get the trashed card back on their next turn

It's especially bad in a game with Feodum. Trash a Feodum, your opponent gets 3 Silvers plus a $4, and then they get their Feodum right back, so you're basically just increasing the value of your opponent's Feoda

30
Inspiring Cultist: Each of your chained Cultists can Inspire another Action card - and the best part is that the Inspiring happens after all the chained Cultists have drawn, increasing the likelihood of having useful Action cards in hand. Of course, it's somewhat limited by the fact that Inspire can only work with Action cards that don't already have a copy in play, but it can still be very strong, especially if you have a good variety of Action cards (or one-shots like Experiment)

Also, that combination of names is thematically interesting

31
Scrounge + Peaceful Cult → Guaranteed $5 in opening. Trash an Estate with PC at the start of your buy phase, then use Scrounge to get it back with a $5, effectively canceling out PC's trashing, but getting you a $5 in exchange, which is usually well worth it, in effect, turning a 3/4 opening into a 5/4 opening

Rules Questions / Re: Reckless + Split Piles
« on: January 04, 2023, 11:38:37 pm »
Ooh, Alchemist's ability bypasses Reckless, making that a crazy strong card.

Unless you miss your Potion!

Yeah, that makes Alchemist a bit of a gamble - although the +4 Cards it nets does increase the likelihood of drawing your Potion. But if you end up not drawing it, that could prove rather unfortunate

33
Inspiring Conclave is funny - you effectively get to play two different Action cards from your hand that you don't have in play

Rules Questions / Reckless + Split Piles
« on: January 01, 2023, 03:59:25 am »
If Reckless is on a split pile, for example, Patrician/Emporium, and you play both - do you get to decide what order the cards go back in their pile? If not, is it in play order? E.g., suppose I play a Patrician followed by an Emporium, would I get to choose whether the Patrician or the Emporium goes back on the top of the pile, or does the Patrician automatically get returned first? I feel like it's probably the first, because there's no rule about what order you discard cards from play, so logically I should get to decide which one gets discarded first

35
Shaman + Cabin Boy is a great combo. If you resolve Cabin Boy's duration before Shaman, you can trash Cabin Boy for another Duration card then immediately get it back via Shaman - also saving you from having to gain any junk that might be in the trash

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Foray is broken
« on: December 27, 2022, 02:17:12 pm »
Foray doesn't seem to work properly. When I buy it, it often does not discard my top three cards, even when I have more than three cards in my drawpile, sometimes it'll only discard one or two cards, and sometimes it won't discard anything at all, not even giving me the chance to try for a Loot

Doesn't foray expect you to discard from your hand? I haven't actually played with it, but generally "discard" without a location specified is from your hand.

... Oh. Somehow I'd completely misunderstood it. I was thinking it was like Harvest, where you discarded from your deck. Okay, then in that case I was mistaken

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Harbor Village + Villa bug
« on: December 27, 2022, 01:57:14 am »
I had a game where I'd played a Harbor Village. After that, I did not play any Action cards that gave me +$1 during my Action phase. In my Buy phase, I bought a Villa, which returned me to my Action phase and I played the Villa. However, I did not get the extra +$1 from Harbor Village. But Harbor Village does not say "during this Action phase", it says "during this turn", so even though it was a new Action phase, I still should've gotten the extra +$1

Game #113811926 on tokyo.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Semi-Interesting Dominion Moments Thread
« on: December 25, 2022, 11:58:43 pm »
Had an IRL 3P game today with my brother and sister-in-law that had League of Bankers, Underling, Importer, and Seaway. Importer + League of Bankers means that we had +$1 from turn 1, and using Seaway to put the +buy token on Underling meant lots of extra buys, meaning that the Underlings were bought up quite quickly. There was also Guildmaster for even more Favors. My sister-in-law and myself grabbed most of the Underlings before my brother picked up on that combo

Governor + Loot is frustrating, because if you use the trash and gain function on Governor, you run the risk of giving your opponent a Province if they happen to have a Loot in hand

Rules Questions / Frigate + Fellowship of Scribes
« on: December 23, 2022, 02:58:55 pm »
Can I use Fellowship of Scribes after resolving Frigate? E.g., I play a Lab, I have six cards in hand, Frigate forces me to discard down to four. Is it then too late to use Scribes to draw back up to 5, or am I still within the "after resolving an Action card" window?

And related to this, if I have four cards after resolving an Action, can I resolve Scribe first to get five cards in hand, and then Frigate to discard back to four?

Buying a Jeweled Egg with a Watchtower in hand basically amounts to buying a Loot for $2 - and being able to immediately topdeck said Loot

Rules Questions / Re: Do Taskmaster and Reckless do the same thing?
« on: December 22, 2022, 01:35:41 am »
Really what I'm asking is, is "repeat this ability" the same thing as "follow this card's instructions"? For the purposes of Ways, Enchantress, etc.

Especially, if you play Taskmaster with Way of the Chameleon. When you "repeat these instructions", are you locked into getting +1 card instead of +?

This is still a valid question that I'm not sure about, but for Way of the Chameleon specifically, I think the "this turn" on Chameleon should still limit it to the turn you play Taskmaster and no future turns where the Taskmaster stays out in play. I know there are some bugs online right now, but at least right now, the online implementation does agree with that--when playing Taskmaster with Way of the Chameleon, you do get the +1 card now but get + on each subsequent turn.

Yeah, it's much like any other Duration card. If Chameleon didn't have the "this turn" clause, though, I think you would be get +1 Card each turn that it stays in play

44
Potentially a bug, but: Reckless Kiln on Dominion.Games will regain itself.

By the card text I don't think it should - you're not playing it twice, just following its instructions twice, but that's how it's currently working.

Yeah, sounds like a bug to me. Definitely shouldn't work that way. Sounds like the system's treating Reckless as if it were a Throne Room

45
Just realized that since Flagship doesn't say anything about "on your turn", it can trigger on Reactions that play themselves, such as Caravan Guard or Black Cat

46
The +1 {bonus} tokens from Adventures can be disappointing on Taskmaster, as they don't do anything when Taskmaster's start-of-turn ability triggers.  "Repeat this ability" is not the same as "Play this again."

That's basically the same concept as all the other Duration cards. Stick an Adventure token on Hireling and you're not getting that bonus every turn

Reckless Crew
This thing does NOT have to return to the supply. Like at all.

Nearby Peddler
Dear programmers of Dominion Online, please prevent this one from popping up. (I've not encountered this one, but I dread the day I will)

First Mate + Nonterminal trasher
Trash stuff, then draw back to make up for the reduced handsize. First Maid can be quite nuts for sure.

There's no rule that wold prevent Peddler from getting Nearby, so it feels like it would be arbitrary to block that combo ... on the other hand, yeah, with four or more Action cards in play, that's an instant emptying of the pile. In principle you could do the same with Nearby Wayfarer as long as you have at least one other source of +buy - buy a single Copper, then empty out the Wayfarer pile. Of course, that would only be sensible if you have a deck that can support that many terminals (or the +Action adventure token on the Wayfarer pile), or are wanting to empty out a third pile at the end of the game

48
Shaman weakens most trashing attacks, but Corsair actually becomes stronger with Shaman in the game - you can get the cards Corsair trashes

Rules Questions / Re: Reckless
« on: December 20, 2022, 02:48:37 am »
Shouldn't the first revealing of Moat be valid for the second following of Soothsayers instructions?
Moat tells you to be unaffected by the played Attack card, and Reckless tells you to follow the instructions of played Reckless cards twice. To me that seems like the card does the thing twice. For the Moat to only affect the first round of instructions you have to say that "this" (the first run-through) "is what Soothsayer does, and this" (the second run-through) " is what Reckless does." But Reckless just tells you to follow the instructions twice. If it had said "After you play a Reckless card, follow its instructions again" then the second play would have been solely because of Reckless. The current wording seems functionally equivalent to if the card text had been printed twice on Soothsayer, in which case the Moat  would count for both run-throughs.

Yes, Moat would block both. The question was if you drew a Moat on the first attack, would you be able to block the second attack? And the answer is no. But, yes, if you revealed a Moat on the initial play of Soothsayer, it would block both

Fated is great with cards that you want to play multiple copies of. I had a game with Fated on the Idol pile - the Curse pile ran out pretty fast in that game!
