Game Reports / Re: Is Sage + Treasure Map a thing?

Sage, Wishing Well, Farming Village, Navigator, Noble Brigand, Treasure Map, Apprentice, Bazaar, Contraband, Fairgrounds 90%

Wow! I thought this was a weak board - what did I miss that has a 90% win rate against a T5 Treasure Map collision? Noble Brigand + money seems good against TM, but if you open NB and your opponent does something else it seems like you're in trouble. Maybe some kind of Fairgrounds thing? They can be worth 6 if you get everything but TM and Curse, and it will be hard for a TM player to pile Provinces alone. I guess the key must be Noble Brigand, to take away everything good your opponent has gotten. I did want to buy one of those during my game on this board, but never had a good opportunity. There was one turn where my opponent hit $5 and I was praying he didn't notice the NB opportunity. As it turned out, my next two cards were both Gold, so I'm glad he didn't!

Fairgrounds. There is so much +action available that you don't need to worry about adding any of the cards to your deck. There is contraband for +buy which is fine enough. And there's NB against TM, and of course you don't need to open NB. I'd probably go navigator/silver to get contraband and then assemble something around 1-2 noble brigands per turn.

Anyone else have a card that you know is good, but every time you use it, it doesn't work, and every time your opponent uses it, you get crushed?

For me, it's not even close, it's Swindler - if I avoid it, I lose.  If I buy it, I still lose as my opponent hits copper EVERY TIME and I hit not-copper EVERY TIME.  It's almost gotten to the point where I will exit a Goko game when I see it, I'm just that bad with it.

Gardens is a close second.  That chug.....chug.......chug as I try to outrun the Gardens race buying other green and slow to a complete stop.

As a side note: games where my opponent kept hitting non-coppers were most often worse than those where he hit coppers.

Game Reports / Re: Really fun Menagerie engine

I think, you spent too much time for trashing. You don't really need count, going for altar is much more promising, especially with fortress around. Your opponent doesn't contest minions at all, you should have more minions in your deck. It's just more reliable than menagerie, especially in the beginning and with weak altar trashing. Oh, and you don't want silver.

You want to open ruined market/DC in that case, I suppose. DC will get you to 5$ for witch and/or 7$ for KC.

Hm, you're right. I don't know why it says 12 turns at the game end. I did it in 12 turns, though:

Not necesary. But probably the best option at 3$.

12 turns. Note that my outpost turn just resulted in a WM. With a little luck and correct tactics for setting the outpost turn up, it can be enhanced further, I believe:

The Talisman wasn't necessary?! I thought I needed to get more Bridges.
And 6 Bridges only give you 7 Provinces... (You get free copper from Mountebank so at least $14 in deck).

Maybe - just maybe - your opponent is also going for provinces. In that case, (s)he will - at least with a probability > 0 - have got 1 province by turn 30. So you can just buy up the remaining 7.

Testing against bots seems rather pointless, as they are so weak.

1. I don't think you need at least 6 minions, though. How do you get to this number?
2. You can first get a province, try to get princess and go back to buy more minions.
3. Getting 1 or 2 tunnels only does not seem consistent with the idea to get your deck 'flooded' with golds and have enough to have 8$ in a 4 card hand.
4. With princess and council room, it is no problem to arrive at double province turns, the lack of +buy is the limit here, i.e. with 1 CR and princess, you're 'limited' to triple provinces (I was - against banker bot, though, which is pointless).

Minion engine should win and it's not close. Tunnel is an awful defense against Minion.

Take home message: don't give reasons, make blunt statements. ;)

Speaking of which, the whole tunnel idea is very awkard on this board.
On t16, you should know there's remake still left in your deck and you don't discard for the last 4 cards, but instead make remake miss the shuffle.
t17: get more minions.
t18: more minions.

I'm not really convinved. If my opponent goes for Minions and I go for Tunnels, then my Tunnels should be discarded fairly often and I should get a gold flood. Against a Minion deck, which (on this board) can not buy more than one card each turn such a deck seems to be a really good idea.[...]

How can the minion player not buy more than one card? Just add BV/council room to your deck or a princess and there you go. If I am the only player cycling (in a controlled manner and with actions available afterwards), how likely is it, my opponent collides tournament/province before I do?

Technically, remake lets you gain cards, too, so remaking silvers into tournaments is an option as well - which, admittedly, is not buying, as you stated.

Question is, how big a ratio of active members remember RisingJaguar. :-)

Leo, there was no German national championship last year, nor has anyone asked me to participate in any world championship since I have won the national title in 2012. As there haven't been any announcements with regard to this year's German championship, I think, there is none.

It would most likely help if you specified which tournament you're talking about.

I set up a Hermit-Bridge combo [...].  Is this combo already out there?

I've played it before, kind of, but not as sophisticated as you did, apparently. It worked in 12 turns, though.

I cannot look at SCSN's log, but I'm sure he's shown the same reaction as I have: no +buy, ok; but death cart, workshop and butcher.

lespeutere vs Max7272sp 3-0

1-0
IGG with Oracle support for me. It didn't work out so well, I managed to discard a Tunnel once which was really helpful once for getting a gold as 10th card, second for boosting my economy. He tries to go for IGG via Feast which works surprisingly well, then wins the Tunnel split 6:2, but I get two 4 VP Fairgrounds. He only manages a tie on his turn when he started: 16-16.

2-0
Really fun engine board. I guess I should've added a Market, but the game was over so fast and I preferred the draw of Catacombs to +buy with pseudo +buy of Butcher and Forge available when applied to Catacombs. Alas, 6 provinces in 6 turns is quite decent: 63-11.

3-0
Hey you BM lovers, there you go. No villages, premium draw (Smithy and Wharf), Bank, Counterfeit. With 4/3, he goes for 1 Smithy and quite some Banks with 1 Counterfeit, with 5/2 1 pick up 4 Wharves vs. his 1 Smithy, 2 Platinum vs. his 1, 2 Banks vs. his 5 (and a Haven). Wharves just do it for me, as expected, 6 Colonies for me: 71-41.

Thanks for the games and good luck for the rest of the tournament.

My IW/Silver opening vs your Silver/Silver: I assume your goal was to hit $6 or $7 on the first shuffle and gain two actions through Stonemason.  But either of those draws (CCSSE or CCCSS) is improved by replacing a Silver with an IW.  For example, I'd much rather gain 1 FV and buy 1 CR than buy 1 SM and gain any two of CR/Baker.

In this game, you opened Council Room/Silver and I opened Ironworks/Silver, saving the coin token.

Er... right.  Well, see?  Your play was even better than you thought. ;)

Then how was I so behind? You were destroying me, I really don't feel like number of Council Rooms in Deck could have been that big of a factor, and I'm not blaming this one on luck; it's already a hard enough sell to blame Game 2 on luck :P

I think your premise is wrong. At ~5:00 you state, that you'd like to get a zillion villages before you get CR. That's not a good idea. You typically want to get the drawer first before you get your first village. Especially if you have a chance of hitting 7 or 8$ with 2 buys via CR.

We should all meet up in Melbourne!

Now that makes Europe pretty central again.  ::)

Technically, it takes a card from your drawing pile and puts it onto the mat. As there is none, nothing happens. SCSN stated that a 2nd NV helps when opponents do not play discard attacks frequently. It's to decrease the likelihood of not having NV but both Graverobbers in hand. If you discard to 3 frequently, however, you cannot play NV for +actions, play Graverobber on Treasury, play NV for taking the card onto your mat and play GR again to fetch Treasury from the trash.

lespeutere vs GeoLib 3-0

Code: [Select]
Cellar, Fishing Village, Cutpurse, Navigator, Remake, Embassy, Hunting Party, Junk Dealer, Market, Nobles
1-0
Fishing Village/Remake into Hunting Party, Market and Nobles. His Remake misses the shuffle and with my FPA and another unlucky turn in his endgame, I drive it home: 39-23.

Code: [Select]
Swindler, Armory, Band of Misfits, Bazaar, Inn, Venture, Witch, Bank, Forge, King's Court
2-0
He opens witch/nothing, plays witch on t4 which is then hit by one of my double swindlers. I get rather nice luck, hitting 7$ for KC and forge much sooner than he does. He swindles my forge into bank, i get a province first, before going back to getting a forge and keeping the lead. In his final turn, GeoLib can still win, if he swindles a duchy away from me and buys the last province. Instead he hits province: 26-22.

Code: [Select]
University, Great Hall, Woodcutter, Workshop, Gardens, Spy, Young Witch, Council Room, Upgrade, Fairgrounds, Expand
3-0
5/2 for GeoLib again, he opens Uprade into a Uni/CR engine. I go for Workshop/Gardens, get 8 WS before greening and try to stick to the sim optimum. Despite 4 upgrades, he is not able to trash down fast enough, leaving us wondering whether CR/BM might've been the superior choice or whether Fairgrounds/Expand detours cost him a better result than 4 VP Gardens: 41-32. Any comment on this greatly appreciated.

It was a fun match, apart from the usual goko issues. Good luck to GeoLib for upcoming matches!
