To all the edge-casers:

-Yes, he knows that, because of a failed Bureaucrat.
-No, he doesn't win the game with this.
-No, he doesn't buy a Colony.

Ok, now it's your turn ;-)

If he knows he is going to lose, what's so bad about ending the game early instead of sitting through the other guys turn? Especially if you aren't playing with the point counter and he doesn't know for sure who will win if he three piles, its most certainly the right move to make.

Oh, we had whole threads about the etiquette of situations like this. I should know -- I started one :)

The first thing I thought when I was reading the top frame was, "He can't pass Transmute!  It wasn't in the supply."

Then I scrolled down... :P

We're starting to see repeats!
How did you remember this and find them???
He has a hieroglyphic memory (and he's a chemist, which also helps).
He reads ancient Egyption?!
That was so very, very bad. Especially given that these days, the Middle East is such a highly charged place.

What does that have to do with anything?

I switched for about 6 months. Got nearly as fast as with QWERTY, and I felt it was more comfortable.

Ultimately, I switched back for Vim.

Suppose someone wanted to buy sleeves for every Dominion expansion (purely hypothetically, of course ;)

Including the extra base cards, that totals 3100 cards by my count; do you get the same number?

So to order from your website, including the 100 extra sleeve bonus and the present discounts, that would be $56.95 + $29.95 = $86.90, shipping included, right?

How long will the discounts remain in effect?

And will you consider offering a "whole shebang" option for, say, an even $85? :)

Goko Dominion Online / Re: The Campaign mode: what it's good for

I dont think its very good for that. You still need ten cards in the first game. And if you understand the concepts, i dont think its necessary to add cards one-by-one anymore.

Good point about 10 new cards in the first game.  But I do think adding new cards slowly is beneficial for new players.  It's hard for anyone here to remember what it was like when they were learning, but my experience with new players is -- at least at first -- they prefer to use mainly cards they're already comfortable with.

Also, different starting decks are just confusing.

They're actually not!  That's the brilliant part.  From the player's point of view, once the game starts it's all the same.  It helps you learn the mechanics, while also giving you an easier time to win.  It's an excellent way to ease new players into the game while they learn the ropes.

Goko Dominion Online / The Campaign mode: what it's good for
« on: August 17, 2012, 01:52:03 pm »
I just played the first 3 campaign levels on my lunchbreak.  Man, are they slo-o-ow for experienced players!  The opponent starts at a handicap (the first one has 5 copper/5 curse!). You use the base set, and they introduce one new card at a time.  Not so exciting -- but there is one thing they do better than anything before.

The campaigns are the best way to introduce someone to Dominion.

You don't need multiple players.  You learn [new] cards one at a time.  And, it's free!

This is the slow, gentle introduction Dominion never had.  Kudos to Goko for bringing this to the community!

I would even expect that they have one themselves. Not much point in making some sequence of zeros and ones public without a method to read them.
I read this announcement (or plan) as that the logs are ALSO machine readable, like some XML or JSON or whatever, in contrast to isotropic where you have to parse the text to get it into the database.
No my best guess is it will be text. They considered trying to match the isotropic logs.

I hope they exceed the isotropic logs.  We need to be able to recreate the game state to have replays; we can't do that with isotropic logs.

Before we enter our email addresses, can we get confirmation that the site is legit?  At first glance, I see nothing that spammers couldn't have made.

On the occasions when you do want to go over a game, the log does a reasonable job.  Apart from adding the missing information (what was discarded? what was passed with Masquerade?), for me the biggest improvement over a log would be a log "player", that allows you to step through the game turn by turn and action by action, displaying the information you get during a game plus extra details of the game state such as deck/discard pile contents for each player (along the lines of that currently provided for the logs on Council Room).

A "log player" is an excellent idea.  Unfortunately, it's impossible with the present version of isotropic.  The game state cannot be reconstructed from the logs -- a limitation I hope will be absent from the official app.

Where can I download darkages.py?

Taking screenshots is the trickiest part, since I can't do that at work.  The writeup is finalized already and the screenshots will come as soon as I have an hour or so uninterrupted at home.

Maybe it would be easier to post html snippets from the game logs?  As long as you link to the isotropic css file from the blog... okay, maybe it wouldn't be easier...

If the game is truly over at turn 6; resign FIRST and then say a polite gg.

He wasn't saying gg because of losing, but because of winning.  And it's true that he did pretty much have it locked up at that point.

Try using the lid from the box for trash.  It becomes very obvious which pile is the trash.  Also, since order doesn't matter, this lets you sort the cards as you go.  In games with Chapel, Remake, Bishop, Forge, etc. this saves a ton of time at the end of the game... and lets you start the next game that much more quickly!

I met a traveller in an antique land
Who said 'Six vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert
And on the pedestal these words appear
My name is Ozymandias, King of Ants
Look on my feelers, termites, and despair
I am the biggest ant you'll ever see
The ants of old weren't half as bold and big
And fierce as me'.

Dominion Isotropic / Re: First game that I pile-drived provinces
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:44:38 pm »
Well... pile driver doesn't require you to do it in one turn, so cost reduction isn't really needed.  With any reasonably competitive opponent, it really shouldn't happen unless you are both going for the mega turn, but I am pretty sure I have one or two Province pile drivers without Highway/Bridge.

It can also happen with Colony or Duke.

I believe Masquerade is also the only card that can cause information about the contents of a player's deck to become unknown/untrackable. Though Native Village is an honorable mention in that category.

Untrackable by players during the game, yes.  Sadly, it's also untrackable in the logs, in the current implementation of isotropic.  I hope the official version corrects this oversight, so the logs will let us fully reconstruct the game state at all times.

Dominion Isotropic / Re: How do you set your auto-match bias?

I will decline if King's Court and Masquerade show up together.  Otherwise, I just prefer to play the set I'm given.  Each board has its own personality, and learning to play the different types is part of the fun.
