Ah yes, you're right. Sorry I doubted you!

I think I found the other solution.

Note that you have 9 cards in hand.

1. Discard all but {KC, Vault, Watchtower} (+6$)
2. Play KC -> Vault. (7 cards left.) Discard nothing, nothing, all but watchtower (+6$)
3. Play Watchtower. (6 cards left.) Draw those six cards.
4. Play Forge on {Goons [?! ], Mint}, gain Colony.
5. Play Bishop on WV (+1$, +3VP)
-- end action phase --
6. Play Counterfeit for +3$ (Total: 16$, 5 buys)

Case A: Opponent bans Colony. Buy Province, Province. (Game ends because Provinces are out.) We have gained a total of 25VP, so our total score is 77; opponent's is still 76.

Case B: Opponent bans sth. else. Buy Colony and either Duchy or triple Estate (whichever is not banned). Now you have one more VP as above and game still ends because Colonies are out.

I was thinking along those lines, but I was stumped by Counterfeit.
Also, how do you have enough money for Colony + triple Estate? Aren't you $1 short for that? Maybe just use Case A if opponent bans Duchy.

The rule was the word passes if it follows a trend of going up/down or down/up continually. But if you repeated a letter it would count as going in either direction. The problem with, say, "otto", was that it went up, "down", and then down again, which didn't follow the rule.

That was the first phrasing I thought of, actually. But then I forgot about it because I was focused on the double letters, and I didn't remember that I had thought of a simple phrasing.

Just because I want a counterexample:

Guess: the question must not contain a series of three letters in the same direction. If a letter is repeated (like aa, but not aba), the second one, instead of counting as a letter, counts as a reverse function. So abb is two letters going towards the beginning. zyy is two letters going towards the end. abba is two pairs, abb (going towards the front) and bba (also going towards the front), so it doesn't count.

Okay, this probably isn't the rule, or else the rule was phrased much more simply than I can manage. But I want a counterexample.

Guess: the question must not contain a series of three letters that go in the same direction in the alphabet (so abc is not okay because they go forward then forward but acb is because it goes forward then backward)

e, two things:


1. The opponent would not be able to have 33 VPs by having 7 provinces and 9 curses.

Clarification: If it were just the Provinces and Curses, that would work out, but the opponent still has all their Estates because they never bought a Transmute.
