Choose one: +1 Buy; or take any number of Coffers up to 5, and at the start of your buy phase, spend all of your coffers, and for each $1 you have unspent at the end of your turn, take 1 debt.

Just something off the top of my head to get me back in the game. Back when I joined the forum this was still on its second contest, I had no idea it would go this long.

Dominion General Discussion / Best expansion if you only buy one

I think this question has been asked before but now there's more expansions. I'm going to get an expansion for a friend who I'm guessing will probably end up with at most of two expansions. Assuming they only end up with one, which one would be best?  They said that more complicated would be better than simpler.

The ones I'm thinking of are Seaside, Prosperity, Adventures, Nocturne, Renaissance, Menagerie, or maybe Empires.
Not Intrigue, Hinterlands, or Dark Ages since they don't really add new mechanics to the game. Not Alchemy since it's small, not Cornucopia and Guilds since it only really adds Coffers.
Thoughts?

Not sure about Blacksmith's strength, also forgot to include the heirloom on the card.
In a vacuum, Blacksmith is weaker than Catacombs.
But via Blacksmith you are more likely to get the Villager via Tool.
Yet I don't think that this pushes the card from "similar to Catacombs and thus a $5" into $6 territory.
I knew it, there's often a card similar to an idea of mine that I forget. I'll have an edited version or replacement soon, along with a fixed version of tool.

That's actually not that bad of an idea, something like this:

Deal
$5 Project
When you gain a second copy of a non-victory card in a turn, you may gain another copy.

Sale is deliberately broken, especially in the case of split piles (gladiator and two fortunes for $6) and castles.
Deal is ok, though, to my taste, too expensive ($3-4 would be fine)

If it’s a hoax, I spent a lot of months playtesting a fake expansion. I sure hope it’s real.
Dammit, Footnote! Why do you have to tease us? I assume you're not allowed to tell us anything. Maybe just one little thing?

I don't really like the wording on the cards you freeze on-gain. I don't know what changes this wording has had, but I think it would seem more intuitive if it was like, when you gain this freeze it.

Sleigh: I have other, similar cards I like more.
Tbh I don't see the logic in removing a card for this reason. Unless you're planning on publishing this as a set or something, unless there's really something wrong with a card you should keep it in.

Igloo: I'm not sure about this one, it's seemed okay in playtest games but it still feels off for some reason. What do people think?
I think it's off because you would only want one frozen since another would do nothing, I think it can pretty easily cost $3.

Probably won't have an entry this week, but in my dream last night I thought of having a Chicken card that gains you eggs, and the Egg card was something like +1 card +1 action +$1 discard a card. Also I think there was some kind of reserve clause on it to but I couldn't read it.

Here's a simple card inspired by some of the rotating cards in Agricola. (NOTE: it is an heirloom, not a supply pile)


Why doesn't Research just say "the player to your left may..."?
I would guess it's because if they don't, the next player may then choose to.
