Then I am probably the only Singapore representative? Haha

Haha there are indeed many differences between them. Imagine both curses and ruins in your deck.. Having said that, I think a more meaningful discussion would be to think of the scenerios where you would choose to give ruins than curses? For example, cultist could be more useful than witch in some scenerios =)

Dominion Articles / Re: Bank

Nice article! Maybe just add that presence of cursers diminishes the effect of bank, and in these case, gold might be better? Also must add that envoy + bank seems quite effective too  ;)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: The best 2-card combo
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:12:54 am »
My Top 20 nominations
1.   I nominate Mint + Fools gold – Every turn with 2 Fools gold at hand really makes fast provinces
2.   I nominate Remodel + Fools gold – Losing out in the Fools gold rush in such a combination is usually so difficult to win (Unless maybe in presence of Mountebank)
3.   I nominate Wharfs + Crossroads – Getting greens and getting + draws and + buys really makes it a strong combo!
4.   I nominate University + Apprentice – Great for trashing and plus cards from University makes it a bonus!
5.   I nominate Haggler + Apprentice – Usually lots of stuff to trash in the presence of hagglers!
6.   I nominate Hunting party + Monuments – Great combination for +$2, VP and eventually provinces!
7.   I nominate Hunting party + Baron – Superb combo with the +buy from baron when discarding estates. Reaches provinces in good time!
8.   I nominate Governor + Goons – Just superb with plus buy and huge draws. Almost undefeatable when in the presence of villages!
9.   I nominate Governor + Margrave – Allows plus buys and huge draws, with governor getting golds
10.   I nominate Bridge + Native village – In the right combinations, allow you to get a megaturn!
11.   I nominate Apothecaries + Native village – Draw coppers/potions with apothecaries and store greens with native village!
12.   I nominate Tactician + Vault – Allows getting greens without affecting the quality of deck!
13.   I nominate Tactician + Secret chamber – Allows getting greens without affecting the quality of deck!
14.   I nominate Ironworks + Gardens – One of the cool cheese for a gardens rush!
15.   I nominate Workshop + Gardens – Same as 14
16.   I nominate Warehouse + Tunnels – Allows fast cycle and use of gold, without even the need to get silvers!
17.   I nominate Golem + Counting house – Difficult to set up, but can be potentially powerful
18.   I nominate University + Vineyards – Same as you! 
19.   I nominate Fishing Village + Jack of all Trades – Gets provinces pretty fast
20.   I nominate Hunting party + Tournaments – Prizes for the win!

I will be surprised if there is anyone in Singapore playing!  :)

Inn and mandarin sounds good since one can draw, and the other puts back into the deck  :P

Thanks mustard  :) We would like you to join us actually. Any interest?

I personally think curses will make games more fun! You will know getting money is just simply not enough  :) Knowing when to attack and defend I think is the most fun in this game

Dominion General Discussion / Re: What combos with JoaT?

I would safely say fishing village for $3 is one of the best! Otherwise usually just treasures, other than fools gold and talisman  :)

Dominion Articles / Re: The Key to Big Money Part I: Money Density
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:11:50 am »
I must say that this is an excellent article! Especially when one is going big money, one often wonder, should I buy a gold to increase money density or should I just province 1st? Of course like any statistics models, it can be difficult to calculate totally, especially with effects like discard effects, curses, attacks etc. Often, one also relies on card draws to boost chances for getting provinces or colonies which can be difficult to predict too! Though simple model, but creative and covers most aspects! Lucky that this game is not entirely based on calculations  :)

Feedback / Re: Future DominionStrategy tournaments?
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:54:52 am »
Here I am assuming that most people play for the fun of it  :) I think we can organize it like a soccer match whereby each player can get a chance to start 1st and then compute a score say 3 for winner, 1 for 2nd and 0 for last. And each fight say 3 diff combi. And the top 3 proceeds and continues till 3 top players. Of course this may need more refinements, but think it still be cool!

Game Reports / Re: Nobles/Great Hall/Silk Road/Gardens
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:15:54 am »
For the case here, I would think that getting great halls, silk road and nobles will be synergistic than getting gardens silk road and nobles. It really helps that great hall does not stall your progress of nobles trying to draw as many cards as possible especially late game when money becomes difficult to draw  :) Furthermore, I doubt the game will extent long enough to make your gardens purchase worth, and it certainly lowers the chance of getting nobles together. So yep, great hall is a bettrr buy   ;D

Help! / Re: Did I HAVE to buy City?
« on: January 01, 2012, 11:47:31 pm »
I think you have made three right decision not to buy any cities, otherwise you might just lose even faster! However, as there are no card draws, and no thrashing options available, I think I would have just pursued for provinces straight, and apothecaries will do just the job to acheive this :)

From the Gardens Division: Smartie vs Jahz (1:0)

As Jahz forgot to show up in the competition and we find another timing, Jahz has kindly agreed to let me win this. I would like to thank him, and hope to challenge him again in the near future  :)

Gardens division (Smartie - seed 22 vs Wagz - Seed 43). Final Score 4-3!

Firstly, I must say that Wagz is really a strong opponent, despite not playing the game for a while! :) It was a pleasure to play with you dude.

The logs are as shown:

1st round: Smartie 78 - Wagz 69. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-040820-d68b8058.html - It was a secret chamber and tunnel match! Turns out that I was eventually able to get more platinums at the back from the gold I have converted from tunnels. Pretty close!

2nd round: Wagz 59 - Smartie 45
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-041423-27faca94.html - Smithy big money, but he played better because I forgot that loan can actually be used to trash coppers! But definitely well played by him!

3rd round: Smartie 35 - Wagz (Resigned)
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-043020-b84155fe.html - It was all about margraves and university combo in this match. Think the turning point was that I manage to get more golems at the front, and hence was able to get a mega turn by purchasing provinces in a mega turn. Good mirror match!

4th round: Wagz 45 - Smartie 42
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-043544-ad98bf74.html - Seems like opening with militia was a better choice than opening with tribute! Nonetheless, it was a really close match!

5th round: Wagz 22 - Smartie 1
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-044406-fbf91f43.html - I missed the first familiar buy as I had only 2 coppers and a potion... This escalated into many curses in the deck and me being unable to fight back. Good play!

6th round: Smartie 39 - Wagz resigned
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201112/04/game-20111204-045738-fc6b594c.html - This is a really interesting match I must say. Other than going just minions, something interesting was that there was also border village and swindler in the deck. I quickly seized the opportunity to buy some swindlers at the back to convert the minions into many outposts, enabling me to win the game!

7th round (Decider round): Smartie 48 - Wagz 44
Forgot to save log ><... But it was really interesting, in the sense that we employed very disparate strategies! He went horse traders and silk roads whereas I went for vault and provinces... Turns out that the scores were pretty close, with him purchasing all the silk roads and some duchys whereas I got all the provinces.

Overall, I must say I enjoyed the games! Thanks for playing :)
