Games against Robz888 were really exciting! I actually was so nervous that I keep telling myself not to make any mistakes... But the games were really interesting and although the strategies are kind of similar, slight differences in some decisions decided the fate of the outcome.

Game 1
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140412/log.514cd37de4b0fe3236619906.1397320082750.txt
This had different strategies, with Robz888 going for straight silvers whereas I went for caravan/silver. His decision allowed him to get 1 earlier witch before my shuffles, and I did feel like I might lose out to him in the curse split. Nonetheless, I stayed on my decision and eventually got 1 witch on the 2nd shuffle. He then went on to get 3 witches while I stayed on 2 witches, hoping that my caravans can compensate by increasing the shuffling of my deck. Surprised that the curse split was 5-5 in the end! After dishing out the curses, the next was to find a good time to get masterpiece. Robz888 got masterpiece the moment he had more than 5 coins while I chose to wait for a big turn. Luckily, it came with me getting 11 coins and getting 8 extra silvers on my deck. It then went smoothly after the purchase. Interesting game indeed...

Game 2

This game focuses on the ability to focus on trashing to get King's court to function more efficiently. Hence, we got urchin and cut-purse, hopefully to get mercenary. It worked out for the both of us. We then got tactician to get the big turn to get King's Court. While we did get King's, I thought that my relatively trashed deck should enable me to get all my cards every turn with Hunting Party. I was totally wrong.... Robz888 made the more appropriate decision to get 2 tacticians which enabled him to use mercenary every turn! With 3 cards in my hand, I didnt manage to draw my cards even though I had more hunting party. Smooth victory for him at the end..

Game 3

This game clearly shows that my naive mind thinking that doctor can clear faster than salvager and loan.. I think the good thing about salvager is that it still can net gold, which enabled him to get more labs, more bridges and villages. Outright victory for Robz888.

Smartie 1: Robz888 2

Game 4
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140412/log.514cd37de4b0fe3236619906.1397323470980.txt

At this point, I was determined to win this game. Turned out to be really tough. This game focused on engine, with some buys with fishing village as the only +action card. We both got similar FVs and ~3 Journeyman, and one merchant guild. I think I was on the lead as I purchased my guild much earlier than his, allowing more tokens. However, my luck at 11 totally went out with no journeyman draws. I was depressed. What depressed me further was turn 12 where I completely got no journeyman again! And there were only 3 provinces left... Suddenly, I realized he didnt trigger his shuffle, which means that he will not get the journeyman too! I then took the risk of buying 1 province with all my tokens. Sure enough, my calculation worked, and the next turn I got the last 2 provinces, clinching a narrow victory. I was happy at my decision :)

Smartie 2: Robz888 2

Game 5
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140412/log.514cd37de4b0fe3236619906.1397324143237.txt

This game we used similar strategies using FV, masquerade and iron-monger. However, I predicted that besides FVs, ironmonger can also provide another source of +action. Hence I bought 2 masquerades while he just had 1. I think that allowed me to win marginally!

Smartie 3: Robz888 2

Game 6
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140412/log.514cd37de4b0fe3236619906.1397324951680.txt

Final game! JoaT on the board, so clearly it is a must have. Now, should we get hamlet or silver? I chose silver while he chose hamlet. That move from him was actually a smarter choice as the hamlet allowed him to discard coppers and cycle his deck faster. He then got vault, which got me certainly surprised. While vault can allow him to get 6 coins at least, this also allowed me to discard cards that I do not want! With 1 plaza, I took the risk to get another JoaT which certainly paid off, allowing me to have more silvers and better economy when I was getting VPs. I think if he had chosen another JoaT instead of vault, he would have won me quite easily. That way, I was lucky :)

Smartie 4: Robz888 2.

I really enjoyed playing with Robz888 as he is really nice and certainly a top-notch player. All the best! Just saw you got married, congrats! :)

Smartie vs RTT - Definitely luck was on my side :)

Round 1: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140405/log.5161606fe4b0ad9d06948a25.1396712333190.txt
Poor House, Apothecary, Scrying Pool, Scavenger, Scout, Jester, Market, Mint, Mystic, Soothsayer, Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, Duchy, Province, Curse, Potion

My approach was actually initially just to get scavenger and soothsayer together. However, RTT move of getting apothecary made me decide to change my plan. Turned out to be really good for me! We actually used very similar strategies except for turn 8 which he decided to buy market in an attempt to get apothecary and another card. That didnt turn out well for him as he didnt get his apothecaries with his market. Despite so, the scores were consistently close: Till to the point where whoever gets the last province wins. I got my golds together and bought the last province, allowing a small win

Round 2: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140405/log.5161606fe4b0ad9d06948a25.1396712809318.txt
Secret Chamber, Masquerade, Oasis, Oracle, Swindler, Caravan, Tournament, Worker's Village, Young Witch, Ill-Gotten Gains, Rebuild, Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, Duchy, Province, Curse

Well, masquerade and tournament requires lots of luck to make them work, and I did. 1. I got an early gold 2. My 2 masquerades did not clash and 3. My province keep meeting his tournaments. And so that was basically it

Round 3: http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140405/log.5161606fe4b0ad9d06948a25.1396713206257.txt
Fishing Village, Masterpiece, Village, Noble Brigand, Sea Hag, Duke, Haggler, Harvest, Market, Bank, Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, Duchy, Province, Curse

The key cards were obviously sea hags and fishing villages. As all of you may already know, sea hags matches can be swingy if one discards the other sea hags on top deck. However, this time the curse split was quite even. On my first $5, I decided to buy a haggler while he decides to go immediately to duchy. When my haggler hits $4, I was actually beginning to think that I have made a bad choice, particularly there was no good $4. However, I decided to buy noble brigand, which may not be not a bad choice, as I could give him a copper and acquire a silver in my deck. My next haggler buy however, was I must say, beyond awesome! I managed to get $8 and get a gold! I dived the estates while he tries to get noble brigand to get my gold. As it didnt work the way he hoped, I got my little lucky victory :)

Good games RTT. Really enjoyed playing with you!

« on: March 17, 2014, 09:00:55 pm »
Perhaps i may be wrong, but seems like the addition of lookout in your deck could potentially increase your chances in getting your transmute to be more useful? Didn't think you want other action cards than the transmute if you are going full fledge  ;)

Game Reports / Re: Is Farmland Caravan a thing?
« on: March 17, 2014, 08:28:44 pm »
Slightly surprised that none went junk dealers  :P But considering that the farmland can allow you to trash a dead card to something useful as you have mentioned,  I think that is not a bad move! ;)

12
Interesting game I must say! I personally think the soothsayer may have some slight disadvantage compared to an early gold.. That is because the soothsayer action itself is a dead card and does not yield you any card until the next shuffle. Moreover, it adds a card to the opponent deck which might be dangerous move as the soothsayer card is only gained after the 1st shuffle. But the bishop move is really smart thinking, totally matches with the bag of gold. Cheers! :)

Thanks secret tunnel. It was really tense for the games (Perhaps except the last game which I really do not know what I was doing...)

Game 1: I think my 5-2 opening for vault gave me a slight lead to getting nobles, which I felt was important for the combo of drawing large amounts of cards. In the middle I clicked wrongly (+actions instead of +cards), which got me slightly panicked. Luckily vault was definitely quite strong in this game which earned my 1st win.

Game 2: I think I might have gone duchy too early considering you had the masterpiece. Probably I panicked to quickly seeing the vp tokens creeping on me! :P But the silvers really did help decently in the "duchy dance"

Game 3: Failed strategy I guess. But on retrospective, if I had gotten 2 JOAT, there might be a good chance of winning? I am not sure... But jack and hamlet is indeed quite a strong combo I must admit :)

Game 4: I lucked out this game. If he had the money to get the fairgrounds, I wouldnt be able to clinch that victory :)

Game 5: Boring strategy of gardens-workshop, but me starting 1st definitely had a slight advantage in this game.

Game 6: By the time I reached this game, my mind was a whirl.. Was confused of the strategy to try, but seems like philosopher stone is a winning strategy here. I knew my loss the moment he got the potion =P But quick thinking pawned my slow mind :)

Overall great games! Have learnt a lot from this gokodom despite my relatively poor results. All the best! May we meet again secret tunnel

Interesting!! Would you have done the same thing if stonemason is absent? Think trader and feoda are quite good combos themselves!!

Sorry need a little clarification: Our scores are as such:

Wicket 1 - Smartie 0
Wicket 2 - Smartie 0
Wicket 2 - Smartie 1
Wicket 3 - Smartie 1
Wicket 3 - Smartie 2
Wicket 3 - Smartie 3

Our score is 3-3, is this considered a tie?

In my opinion, it seems like treasure maps and loan could be a potential method to get the provinces! But to me silk road does work really well if you have (i) Ironworks/armoury, (ii) Useful victory cards (e.g. Nobles, harem) or (iii) Multiple buys. This may not be the board optimal for silk road I feel :)

Game Reports / Re: Strangest Vineyard game I've ever played
« on: March 01, 2014, 03:57:14 am »
Interesting board for vineyards! As you may have noticed, you already have more than 25 action cards which is equivalent to about 8VPs per vineyard! But may want to get some starting maybe at the third shuffle I feel? Market, Throne room, Oracle and Peddlers seem to be great enablers for this... :)

Dominion Articles / Re: Let's talk about Golem
« on: February 16, 2014, 09:35:45 pm »
Generally, I think golem are exceptionally good when u are playing alt vps as the dominant strategy. For example, without +cards, I find golem+goons or golem+bishops really good combos. The other one I think that has good potential is golem and tunnel, as it can reliably cycle your deck and allow gold to be drawn at the next turn. Lastly, with attackers, I really do think it is a pretty strong card as you are likely to use these attackers morw often, considering that the opponent will likely go for attackers against you also. However, as stated, golem is quite expensive so I usually go for them at the 3rd shuffle. Overall, good article!  :P

I think Feodum, upgrade and Grave is quite a good combination though! Upgrade feoda to grave and use grave to get back feoda etc.. This will start to work when u get at least 3 upgrades I think...

To me, I think if u really like the game and want to play it competitively, I recommend buying the cards. At least it is a one time off payment, and saves u much time searching for games =) Nonetheless, did take me a while before I decided to buy it though  :P

From the log, it didn't seem like getting followers from you could have decided on the fate of the game, especially with JoaT on board. This lack of perseverance from him already showed his level of play. Having said that, I do sometimes wonder how reliable are goko rankings  :P :P
