is there some kind of scout joke im not aware of?

People keep talking about "rats + another trasher"

Rats doesn't combo with chapel btw... its the same speed as just opening chapel/-

You go rats when you can trash a $4 card for bonus benefit e.g. apprentice bonus damage, or remodel into GM, or reach peddlers really fast then remodel those into plats etc.etc.etc.

Co-op is really fun. Me and 2 friends (barb, me monk,WD) ran through normal in 8-9hours. We pooled together items on boss kills so nothing goes to waste.

Single player is unbearably slow IMHO. Especially if you're a Mage or Demon hunter... ranged damage in general is really weak and you never pick up exactly what you need.

Pumping up cities or trade route.

Generally if 2 players both take high-variance strategies against 1 player hes pretty screwed.
e.g. 2 players zerging treasure maps really cuts down the odds in a 3p game.

Diamond would definitely make gold underpowered.

To say "cellar is bad" doesnt mean anything on its own. It has to be worse than other cards available in the game.
The only way to compare the merit of a card is with other cards that exist.

I challenge your presupposition that governor is mediocre. I think its one of the best cards out there and often build around it as my star card.

http://councilroom.com/win_rate_diff_accum.html?cards=Cost%3D%3D5%26%26%20Cards%3E2%2C%20Governor

Take a look here, councilroom on the otherhand is definitely the worst of these drawers because you often draw dead (can only play treasures post action) whilst he draws live (pre action) and have better success combining cantrips.

+1card each helps him more than you.

You draw all your coppers but one, and fire a loan at the last treasure in your deck.

Just to clean up the debate a little

Ultra powerful cards when used well:
Outpost, Mint, Bank, Forge, Venture, all the ?VP (vineyard...), all the +VP (bishop...)

Weak cards even when used well:
Mine, Mandarin, Harvest, Cache, Governor, Explorer, Transmute, Adventurer etc.

"best" and "worst" looks at other factors.
Not just powerful, but broadly useful (caravan), "luckbox factor" (treasure map), takes a long time to play (pawn, forge), people play it badly (village), whether there is unfair impact to 2nd player (cutpurse)... etc.

Raw crushing$$$power is just one factor that clearly belongs to enabled bank/outpost.

I'm already holding the other 5 cards.
Opponent buys noble brigand, I reshuffle and reveal tunnel.

Technically turn 2 hasn't happened yet...

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Cards we love! (and why)
« on: October 18, 2011, 11:34:39 pm »
Best Design -- Mint
Buy/Use synergy that puts hinterlands to shame.
Brute force card in some decks, in others, fastest refiner in the game (see puzzle #2!)

Most Fun -- Bishop
Who said we couldn't race in peace? whilst helping each other?
or conversely, my engine will crush yours even with bishops helping ability =]

Most Powerful Yet Underrated -- Outpost
Sure the downside is obvious and horrible - a clumsy expensive terminal that does nothing for you this turn (i.e. just like saboteur...) might as well spend 5$ on a curse?
Wielded poorly leads to alot of extra pearl divers/silvers... but what part of "take an extra turn" doesn't make you look twice?

Definitely qualifies for both "Most powerful" and "...yet underrated" in my book... it more than doubles the pace of some refined engines

Important -- City, Embargo
These two cards build an unparalleled meta-game in most kingdoms..  Can you play in a way that makes your mid-game unpredictable to embargo? (i.e. not open workers/traderoute on a peddler board) Will my opponent skip an opening potion if I opened embargo? 2nd player can even have an advantage in these meta-games.
Meanwhile city is the only card I've ever bought as a bluff and not even used the extra action... =]

Dominion General Discussion / Re: What would make you go Village/Smithy?
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:56:31 am »
guided: "+buy" is great advice and a common mistake.

Epoch: in the presence of weak trashing, you may not get the critical deck speed to catch up to bigmoneyult. +draw can sometimes push a weakly trashed deck across that threshold to max speed (draw whole deck each turn)

e.g 1# remake/silver open, pick up villages on trashing turns, with an endgame powerhouse like bank, mint or hoard/harem (or all of them!). remake bank-> province as coup de grace

e.g. 2# Forge is greatly buffed by increased handsize. If forge is the only trasher, and very promising endgame such as GM/conspirator for an action chain, i would open Big money smithy to get a forge, village/smithy midgame into whatever endgame

e.g. 3# most KC decks make me wanna chain actions over silver/gold. Certain attacks or decent +$ will need +draw to chain if there is no very good trasher to reach that game-ending critical mass of attacks.
weak trash/kc with saboteur/festival/pirate ship are great candidates for village smithy earlygame

thats about it.

46
Played a game recently opening remake/pawn-> peddlers.
Remaking copper took the cake here over estates since there were no 3$ actions and silver just clogs my deck as much as estates (with regards to lifting 5 peddlers at once)

Remake peddler-> plat.
Still prefer cleaning copper!

Puzzles and Challenges / 10 Grand markets by turn 5.
« on: June 28, 2011, 08:15:17 pm »
In a solitaire game, find a way to have 10 Grand Markets in your deck by the end of your fifth turn.  (Outpost and Possession turns are included in this total.)
You may assume that you have perfect “shuffle luck”: i.e., you may rearrange your deck in any way you wish after shuffling.

As this is decidedly easier than 8 Colonies in puzzle #1, the following cards are prohibited:
Chancellor
Ironworks
Watchtower
Throneroom
Bridge
Kings court
(All the puzzle #1 cards!)

This is pretty fun with no change in rules (using a medal tally for each team)

Although swindler and spy were alot more powerful than usual because its possible to actually help ur teammate
