Yeah Awaclus is… frank. A dry and sometimes sharp wit, and not prone to elaboration. Long ago he used to be unhelpful but it hasn’t been the case in a while.

And even then it was more of a faustian “playing it close to the vest” unhelpfulness rather than outright obstinancy.

I’m just checking in before my absence, but I think I like my vote where it is.

Deadline is my birthday (and Glooble's) and we will be out painting the town red (read: doing an escape room and seeing Ant-Man) so I likely won't be around for deadline.

Interestingly, Didds, we also share a birthday with Justin Beiber, so maybe that's what he's doing at that fancy resort!

vote: EFHW

Awaclus is making sense to me. I can never read EFHW myself, and I'm a bit lost right now, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m checking in, but I’m a little bit surprised that there is so little activity.

Weekends gonna weekend.

Also, we don’t have a ton to analyze. I suppose a Joseph reread would not be out of order.

Maybe it is gkrieg or mathdude and it's just a big ol' WIFOM gambit.

I think I would have recruited if I were scum.

I mean, we already missed the exile. Skip the nightkill and the game is exactly where it started, which means no flips to give context to a reread.

So scum basically gets to start at square 1 but with a team.

Instead they've opted to get 1 kill ahead, which is also good for them but they've given us another chance to one-shot them.

I do agree that points to someone who feels pretty safely not under suspicion, or someone who's just gutsy AF.

You wouldn't, because you think it's more valuable to have the traitor not have any information than get a team but activate the JK. Right?

Clearly so does scum.

Had we succeeded in an exile day 1, I think it would have been a harder decision for me, because the tempo hit of not getting a kill would hurt more. Basically you'd be giving town one more kill than scum. But since we were helpful enough to skip our kill, I think that would have changed the math for me and made it worthwhile to recruit.

I'm very fixated on the vulnerability aspect though. Once again we're in a position to exile and win. ExWi, if you will, rather than ExLo.

Gonna leave my vote on vote: mathdude to increase the chances of an exile and because Awaclus is my other top town read. Good night fam!

I won’t be on at deadline, because it’s already 10 pm here.

Didds you’re my top town read, if you tell me to move I will.

I don't expect to be around much, but think my vote is in a good place right now

What's the rule if we don't get a hammer? Presumably no exile (which is bad for town)?

That's my reading of the rules. And I think that's still the default.

Ah so it wouldn’t be a hammer anymore? I guess I was looking at a very old vote count or something! Then vote: gkrieg

i don't believe in this townslip. he's read enough to know he's the wagon, but not our discussion about that there's one scum?

Exactly.

Intent to hammer gkrieg

That’s not a hard “intent to hammer” — I’m gonna sleep on it.

I might be willing to hammer on the strength of this hard-to-believe townslip.

I think the more interesting question is would it occur to gkrieg to fake a townslip as scum. But, like, it’s not as if we haven’t already discussed at length the fact that scum doesn’t have chat and how that should effect our reads. So if it’s a townslip than not only did gkrieg not read the setup, he also hasn’t been following the thread particularly closely. That’s a pretty high level of carelessness.

I definitely have a list of town reads this game, but I suspect it’s not worth much in this particular game.

gkrieg is not on it.

I’m in London through Thursday, FYI, and in meetings all day tomorrow and Tuesday so unlikely to be able to check in much.

I’m pretty happy with my vote where it is and I’m a bit disappointed the math wagon fizzled.

I kind of want to run a ChatGPT mafia where I make it write all the flavor text. This is what it came up with when I asked it for an introduction. It's bland, but not bad:

Quote
Certainly! Here's a paragraph of introductory flavor text for a game of Mafia:

It's a dark and stormy night in the small town of Salem. The villagers have gathered at the town hall for a meeting to discuss the recent string of mysterious deaths that have been occurring in their community. The rumors of a dangerous mafia presence have been circulating, and tensions are running high. As the meeting begins, the villagers are on edge, each one wondering if they can trust the person sitting next to them. The fate of the town rests on their ability to identify and eliminate the mafia members before it's too late. Who can be trusted, and who is hiding a dark secret? It's up to the villagers to find out, before the town falls into chaos and destruction.

I asked ChatGPT to invent some new mafia roles. Um.

Quote
Sure, here are some new character roles that can be used in the parlor game "Mafia":

Doctor: The doctor has the ability to protect one player each night from being killed by the mafia. The doctor cannot protect themselves and can only use their ability once per night.

Vigilante: The vigilante is a civilian with a gun who can choose to shoot one player each night. If the player they shoot is a member of the mafia, they are eliminated. However, if they shoot a civilian, they are immediately eliminated from the game.

Spy: The spy is a member of the civilian team who can investigate one player each night to see if they are part of the mafia. The spy receives a "yes" or "no" answer from the game moderator, indicating whether the player investigated is a member of the mafia or not.

Lawyer: The lawyer is a member of the civilian team who can protect one player from being voted out during the day. The player they protect cannot be voted out, even if they receive the most votes.

Hacker: The hacker is a member of the mafia who can change the identity of one player each night, making them appear to be a member of the mafia or a civilian. The identity change lasts for one round.

Jester: The jester is a wildcard character who wins if they are voted out during the day. Their goal is to act suspicious and try to get the other players to vote them out.

Oracle: The oracle is a member of the civilian team who can see the role of one player each night, including their character name and abilities. This information is kept secret and the oracle must use their knowledge wisely.

Executioner: The executioner is a member of the civilian team who can choose to execute one player each night. If the player they execute is a member of the mafia, they are eliminated. However, if they execute a civilian, they are immediately eliminated from the game.

These are just a few ideas for new character roles that can add variety and complexity to the game of Mafia. Players can mix and match roles to create their own unique game experiences.

I don’t hate vote: mathdude

So... any particular reason we're all piling on mathdude?

any reason we shouldn't?

i don't think that's how this works
