This looks too good relative to Province.
Let us assume an average of 4 Provinces per player. This is the same as buying Topiary Gardens 4 times while overpaying 5 each time such that there are 60 tokens on the mat. Now the Topiary Gardens are worth as many VPs as Provinces with the additional feature that you can buy further 6VP cards for $3.

It's true that buying 4 of these at $8 makes them worth the number of VP as a Province (and creates the opportunity to buy another at $3), but I disagree that this makes them better. When you buy a Province you have a guaranteed 6VP (absent it getting Swindled into a Peddler or Prince; Topiary Garden is much more vulnerable to Swindler). With this, the first 3 TGs you buy at $8 are not guaranteed to end up being worth 6VP, which makes buying one instead of a Province a potentially risky prospect. And because in 2 or 3 player games there are 4 TGs per player (and fewer games with more players), there is a non-negligible chance that you will not get the chance to buy a 5th one (or even a 4th).

Also, think about how this would happen practically. Imagine we are playing a 2 player game and you and I each have bought 3 Provinces at $8. If I hit $7, what am I going to do? Buy a Gold? A Duchy? I have an extremely strong incentive to buy a 4th TG at $7. Now, if you buy a 4th for $8, I've got a pretty big problem, but I would have had that anyway unless I was going to hit $8 on the following turn. If you don't hit $8 the turn after I buy the penultimate TG, you nevertheless have an extremely strong incentive to buy one at whatever you can spend, because if I buy that 5th one at $4, I now have 5 TGs worth 6 VP each. Thus, I think actually getting 4 TGs at $8 is going to be extremely rare.
I totally disagree. Absent trashing attacks, your card is strictly better than Province.

So it will be very centralizing in nearly all Kingdoms, i.e. players will build up their engines more than in an ordinary Kingdom and then try to massively overpay for Topiary Gardens (a player overpaying less than $5 for them is not a strategic equilibrium as the other players can simply go for Provinces then)-
There is no reason to go initially for the inferior and less flexible Provinces.

This does not lead to good play. It is called alt-VP for a reason, it should be a real choice and not a virtually always mandatory strategic path.

You will also need a lot of tokens, won't be better to adjust the numbers to gain less tokens when overpaying?

add a space between the number and the symbol
well, we say that a picture worth thousand words right ?

so, indeed it's better and thank for the tips but it's obviously still a bug...
It's fixed now  :)

It is necessary to extend the picture vertically so that it is displayed correctly in the generator.

I had the same problem. I think the space assigned to the image is wider than needed. Another trick is to use F12 to change the minimum value of the zoom slider to allow smaller values

At the end of clean up, after drawing a new hand, put your hand and deck into your discard pile.
Queue your discard pile.

You probably don't want to open this (possible when opening $5/$2 with baker or borrow in kingdom, and probably a couple other ways (cursed gold, etc)) but What if donate but it slowly all comes back to you?

I think only you can see the image, (maybe the trello board is private?) and others only can see a blank space

I assume that's supposed to be Merchant Wagon?
Ups, thanks!

Drawing to 5 simply isn’t impressive. Jack does it and it is not really why you get Jack.
Pig is more versatile and far less situational.
You don't get an action from Jack. I think flying there are some kingdom where you can buy actions just to use as flying fish, and I doubt that happens with pig

Great for early gaining of golds or $5 cards.  Terrible for engines later on.  Can't tell if this is way too good or terrible, so I'm hoping that means it's just right.

Reminds me of a much more complex card I have. I really like Heist's simplicity, but I don't think it can really get away with "End your turn." It just creates too many rules questions. Many people will think you still do your Clean-up phase, and some will realize you don't.

"Gain a card costing up to $6. End your Action Phase.  Skip to your Cleanup Phase."
Does that sound too stupid? At this point, is the "end" even necessary? It's basically just there to clarify that you're done playing action cards now. I may have to scrap this idea.

What about "Gain a card costing up to $6. End your turn (by skipping immediately to Clean-up)."
Isn't clean-up part of your turn? "End your turn" means that you neither discard your cards in play or in your hand nor draw 5 cards

At the end of your turn discard it unless you played an Acrobat this turn.
At the beginig of your turn, if this is in play: +1 Card
The instructions on this are kind of weird. Cards aren't normally discarded "at the end of your turn"; they are discarded during cleanup. Being a duration, it would check during cleanup whether it has anything to do on the next turn, and if it's discarded it won't have anything to do, so there's an argument to be made that this would be discarded during cleanup any time. So "Do not discard this during cleanup if you played an Acrobat this turn" would be clearer.

It is still sort of weird with Command cards. The rule is Command cards stay out as long as the Durations they played would, so by that rule, if you played an Acrobat, the Command stays out. But since the Acrobat the Command card played isn't in play at the start of the next turn, the Command card won't actually do anything.

Would this work?

Hirelings while you can play more of them

Clarification question:
1: does this permanently stay in play when you manage to collide two acrobats? because if so, it doesn't qualify for the contest.

2, if the answer to 1 is "no": am I reading this right that it requires you to keep playing other acrobats on your turns for it to continue to stay in play? sort of "juggling", essentially?

Eventually you run out of acrobats (all are on play) and you have to discard all from play

Is it that the "if you played an acrobat this turn" should be below the line? is that what I'm having trouble grokking with this? Because otherwise this is just a two-turn effect
Like something about this isn't clicking for me, and I'm not sure what it is.

Yes, you are right, it shoud be;

dangit, this is really good and simple: wish I thought of this!

It is a cool idea, but I would instead make it so you just draw 6 cards for every hand.
it was the idea, but i didn't know how to write it "correctly". Rules says you draw 5 cards at the en of your Clean Up, so the first hand is an special case making this too wordly

42
Discard for benefit, there is only a few official cards

43
For the first one, it doesn't seem to me like there's any reason that could only be online.  You could have something like "Shuffle your deck, then take the top card ..." There's already precedent for cards that cause you to shuffle your deck without the discard pile
I was thinking in something like draw an action from your deck, or some specific card like silver.

44
I don't know if it will fit for a contest, but how about online only cards? like a card that takes a card from your deck without looking at it or a card with limited number of uses for example

Maybe we can rename the posts as "contest X: y" where X is the contest number and y is a phrase related to the contest ("contest #101: you may flip your journey token" for example)

Can a Child board like Mini-Set Design Contest be done? I think it solves both problems. I think this thread is popular enough to upgrade it

Here's a card I actually created a long time ago and have been saving for the right week, Iron Bridge:

Quote
Iron Bridge - Action - $5

Gain a card costing up to $4.
-
While this is in play, cards that share a type with the gained card cost $2 less.

It's "While this in play", so it's not too strong with TR variants.

(sharp eyed readers may notice its v0.2; the unposted v0.1 had only a $1 reduction and cost $4, but it felt much more interesting to have a $2 reduction, since the buy type was restricted.)

If you throne this, which card's types are being reduced?

The intent is of all types of any gained card (but only once per type) - would better working be "any of the cards gained this way" or something like that be better. (I also guess I need to figure out if it affects things gain a (cost reduced) Border Village, and with it's on gain a Silver. Any thoughts?

I don't think this works. The restriction isn't much of a restriction as you only want to gain Actions in the early-mid game anyways, and only Victory cards on your megaturn. It's way, way stronger than Inventor, and the $1 cost increase isn't enough to justify this.

Inventor is a good card to compare to - thanks! I do think the restriction could matter, though, no? Early on you may not want two actions, but a Silver and an Action? (and can't) or when it comes to Victory cards, with Inventor the gained card doesn't have to be a stop card. I mean I get when it's very late and buying one of the last Provinces, but what about Provinces 1-6?

Sure for a megaturn where you use a couple of these to buy multiple (>2)? Is that super common? (I might just not be at a level where it is for me)

What about the opposite: "cards that doesn't share a type". That will be weaker than inventor and will encourage things like action/silver or duchy
