Game Reports / No Original Startup Deck Cards - Heirlooms and Shelters
« on: December 21, 2018, 10:40:50 am »
Wanted to use all the Heirlooms in the Setup deck, which left the 3 estates, which then I realized could be replaced with the shelters to make up the 'Non-original deck' theme.  The Forager worked well as the Engine option, and we added the Potion card, so thus we needed to add some cards with potion in its cost).
Note: These theme setups, may not be the 'best' of setups, but we tend to prefer to want to keep the card setups 'interesting', and just hope the other player just does not go 'Big Money' just because the setup is 'bad'.

No Original Startup Deck Cards - All Heirlooms

Cemetery
Secret Cave
Pixie   Shepherd
Tracker
Pooka
Fool
Vineyard
Alchemist
Forager

Additional cards
Shelters

Additional Setup cards required
Boon
Ghost,
Wish
Lost in the Woods

Additional non-cards included (just because we had not used them much in our past games)
Save
Dominate

Results 68 vp to 57 vp.  Forager seemed to be the 'Engine', and Dominate ended up getting used 3 times

Dominion General Discussion / Card and Token quality
« on: December 18, 2018, 11:44:52 am »
Has anyone else noticed that the Dark Ages card stock and backside of the card color is slightly lighter.
Although not a significant issue, I definitely can feel the thickness difference when dealing, and more importantly, when we have only 1 or 2 Dark Ages cards in the mix I can visually see (because of the lighter card color) that my opponent has this card in their hand or on top of their deck (and vice versa).
Additionally, I think the 1 Victory Point and 5 Victory Point tokens from Empires appears with less shaper edges (almost a worn appearance).

Dominion Strategy Wiki Feedback / 2nd Edition - Adventure Token images
« on: December 18, 2018, 09:51:54 am »
Could someone create an image of each of the tokens available for the Adventures Tokens?
Including the 1st Editions (if possible), but more importantly the images changed for the 2nd Edition.  I have a project that would use the old and new images.
Additionally, I am hoping for individual images of each of the following
- 1 single Debt Token
- 1 single Embargo Token
- 1 single 1 VP Token
- 1 single 2 VP Token
- 1 single 5 VP Token
- 1 single 1 Coffer Token
- 1 single image of each of the colors of the 6 wooden cubes

Along with my storage box question (http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=19336)

I am interested to know how people organize their cards together.
I mostly sort them alphabetically, but there are a few I keep with their parent card
1. Heirlooms are kept with their parent
2. Ruins are packaged together in a pack of 10 (2 of each type, as I mostly play 2 player)
3. Prizes are with the Tournament
4. But the Spirits are alphabetize, as they are sometimes called out by a single card

I guess I am trying to determine what 'card pairs' I had not thought about in my organization of these cards

Thanks

Dominion General Discussion / Storage options?
« on: December 18, 2018, 08:57:14 am »
How do you store Dominion?
I am sure this topic has been covered extensively before, but I could not find any recent option.
I have all the games, including the update packs, including the base card set.
I had a box that would just barely fit them all, but now with Renaissance, I will need to find something new
I was using just a re-enforced box and then had some plastic boxes inside of that (something used for 'Dragon' or something like that
I have each 10 pack in sleeves in those plastic cases.  The loose tokens are in 2 jewel cases that has 4 sections.

What is out there that will fit all of this without it being very expensive ($30 is about my budget)

Game Reports / Victory is yours - Kingdom setup
« on: December 17, 2018, 01:17:26 pm »
I am experimenting with some Kingdom 'Themes'  - So my first attempt is called 'Victory is Yours'
Basically almost all of the Victory type cards with some others that interacted with Victory Point tokens also
1 Distant Lands
2 Great Hall
3 Island
4 Fairgrounds
5 Nobles
6 Shepherd (Pasture)
7 Gardens
8 Tunnel
9 Groundskeeper
10 Bureaucrat
Extra card - Shelters (Base cards)
Extra card - Tower (Landmark)
Extra card - Battlefield (Landmark)

Winner: 165 vp vs 136 vp

Note: We played the Tunnel wrong (in that when Bureaucrat attacked Tunnel gave Gold) (so we plan a remake again later)
Note: We also played Shepherd wrong (in that opponent decided (once they played their first Shepherd, despite me not having played it by this 'new rule') that the + 2 cards could, any new VP drawn this way could subsequent be discarded for +2 cards), which I played 'their Shepherd rule BTW and put all of my deck into my hand on the last turn, just to prove to them that is why their 'Shepherd rule' was not designed to be played their way.
My Fairgrounds and Gardens, countered their Bureaucrat and Groundskeeper.

Hope this is the right place to post my Themed Kingdom setups and their outcome.

Rules Questions / Shepherd draws more Victory Points
« on: December 17, 2018, 09:05:19 am »
When a player discards a Victory card for +2 Cards after playing the Shepherd card, if they then draw another Victory card, does that mean they get to then again draw two more cards by discarding that Victory card? My guess is no, but my opponent thinks the card is still active (even after playing other actions after the Shepherd).  Where can I see the rule that clarifies the 'resolution' of a card is completed, because the Shepherd has been 'resolved' after the first discard.  Note: I have seen in some FAQ clarification that some cards are still 'active' (like Reactions), but I do not think that applies to Shepherd.
Note: BTW - We played using their rule, as I wanted to prove to them why it would not play that way.  This ended up with me with my entire deck in my hand and all my Victory cards in the discard pile.  Very funny play that ended the game with me buying out the rest of the Provinces.

Rules Questions / Bureaucrat and Tunnel
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:50:52 am »
Does Bureaucrats instruction for "...Each other player...' to '... puts it onto their deck...' meet the Tunnel's '"...discard this other than during Clean-up...' requirements?  My guess is yes, but I am hoping to once again 'find the rule' that covers this.

Feedback / Whoa - Cool Donald X replied
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:56:49 am »
Is it just me or have others experienced the 'Whoa - That was cool' moment when Donald X replies in one of your posts?
Not that should be a goal, because getting replies from other very active DS forum players is also just as rewarding.
So thank you to those who continue to make this forum interesting and helpful... and a little cool along the way.

I encountered a game where a player said the endgame was as soon as a end game condition was met.
So for example the player bought the last Province, but could have bought 1 more Victory Point (an Estate).
This resulted in a tie (as it was an equal number of turns for both tied players).  Player would have bought an Estate, thus securing an outright win.
The clarification I am hoping for (can someone point to it in the Wiki somewhere also) is
- Does a player play out their turn in an endgame situation?

Rules Questions / Clean-up order of operations
« on: December 13, 2018, 01:59:42 pm »
There are 3 cards that have the phrase '...At the start of Clean-up...' and I am trying to determine if the order of play of 3 three cards matters (may involve some Lost Cards rules).

Improve
"+2 Coins
At the start of Clean-up, you may trash an Action card you would discard from play this turn, to gain a card costing exactly +1 Coin more than it."

Scheme
"+1 Card
+1 Action
At the start of Clean-up this turn, you may choose an Action card you have in play. If you discard it from play this turn, put it on your deck."

Walled Village
"+1 Card
+2 Actions
At the start of Clean-up, if you have this and no more than one other Action card in play, you may put this on top of your deck."

What is the best order of 'Clean-up'? Note: All 3 cards have been played (and are still in my play area).
Is the 'Clean-up' rule still 'in effect', even if the card that I 'trash' and/or 'discard' (due to discarding for clean-up purposes), so that Walled Village's 'Clean-up' rule is now 'valid' since I no longer have 3 'Action' cards 'in play' (since I either discarded or trashed one of the 3 cards)?

Additionally, can the Trash pile be 're-ordered' by any player at any time during the game (to improve speed of game play for when you have to go through the trash, although I cannot cite an example here).

Thanks

Feedback / Forum vs Wiki Talk
« on: December 12, 2018, 04:09:17 pm »
Is it better to have a conversation about the Wiki details in the Forum (if so where is the best spot for them) or should they be put into the Wiki Talk section (and exactly how to I use the Wiki talk anyways)?
Thanks

Dominion General Discussion / Why 8 Trade Route player mats for 6 players
« on: December 12, 2018, 04:01:19 pm »
While compiling a list of 'materials' I noticed that there were 8 Trade Route player mats, but that it is recommended that only up to 6 players for Dominion.  Was this just an oversight? Has this been discussed anywhere?

Apologies - I meant '8 VP player mats'

Dominion General Discussion / Best custom Kingdom Set
« on: December 10, 2018, 07:45:11 pm »
I cannot seem to find a good source for popular recommend custom Kingdom sets, especially those with with high votes.
Is it worth posting the sets that I have played with my own sets that I have played with the score outcomes, and my personal rating of the set?

Dominion General Discussion / Bane Marker
« on: December 03, 2018, 10:20:34 am »
Hello, hello

I noticed that there was a new item added called the "Bane Marker".  Can someone add this detail to the Wiki? Or I am willing to do this myself if someone sends me an image of what the Bane Marker looks like.  Thanks.

Dominion General Discussion / Replacing Dominion cards
« on: December 03, 2018, 08:40:20 am »
Hello, hello

I have a few cards that have been damaged or lost.  I would like to replace them without buying a whole new set.  Where can I obtain these replacement cards?

Thanks

In the Watchtower wiki Official Rules it states '... You may reveal Watchtower whether you gained the card due to buying it...'

Does that mean if a player has multiple buys, for each 'buy' that player can 're-reveal' the Watchtower card and decide whether to '...to either trash that card or put it onto your deck...'?

Additionally, if I buy a card that has a 'Trashing' effect, do I get the effect of the card that I just gained?  Example: Urchin, can I immediately trash the Urchin to get the Mercenary?

Dominion Strategy Wiki Feedback / Ambassador wiki
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:54:42 pm »
Wiki states '... Ambassadoring the Coppers decreases the chance your opponent will Ambassador you two Estates while increasing your own chances for the same...'

I read this as I would get 2 Estates.  But is the intent of the statement that the opponent will return 2 Estates to the Supply so that you would get 1 Estate?

Dominion General Discussion / REQ: Cost math tables
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:40:46 pm »
Hello, hello

Well as much as I enjoy Dominion, there is one place that I still struggle.. simple cost reduction math, including Potions and now Debt.

is there a table out there for each 'cost reduction' type that will help us understand a little better, what we are allowed to do?

-Thanks

Let's Discuss ... / Let's Discuss Cornucopia Prize: Trusty Steed
« on: May 31, 2017, 01:00:15 pm »
Hello, hello
The Trusty Steed is the only 'Deck discarder' that does not have the 'may' option in the '...deck into your discard pile...'  I am guessing that most players would want to put the 4 Silvers into their deck, but I am curious why not include 'may' as an option?  Or is there just never a reason to not discard my deck into the discard to get access to my pile?

Rules Questions / Gaining, with nothing to Gain
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:49:05 am »
Hello, hello

When a player (either your or another player) attempts to Gain a card, and if there are no cards to Gain, do I still get the benefit of the Gain?
My guess is no, and this question may just be an unlikely scenario in gameplay.

And if there is a 'rule' that covers this scenario, please post the link to the rule or clarification (if there is one).
Again, if this has already been posted in a different thread, please post that thread link (if there is one).

Also I appreciated the tolerance of my 'newbieness' of my posts.

Rules Questions / Reaction cards
« on: May 31, 2017, 09:55:15 am »
Hello, hello

I need a clarification of how Reaction cards are 'activated'.  This may be an unrealistic scenario, but I still want to understand the intent of the Reaction card.

If a player plays an Attack card, but the 'attack' does not negatively impact me (such as a player attacking me with attempting to give me a Curse card, but the Curse pile is empty), do I still gain the benefit of having the Reaction card?

And if there is a 'rule' that covers this scenario, please post the link to the rule or clarification.
Again, if this has already been posted in a different thread, please post that thread link.

Introductions / Hello, hello
« on: May 31, 2017, 08:23:27 am »
Hello, hello

Although I have posted a few times, I just noticed this section of the forum.
I not a 'gamer' for the most part and mostly just 52 deck card games.  I did discover Dominion about 3 years ago through my brother.  I really enjoy the variety of the game.  Over the years I have collected a ton of questions about the game, and will post them.  I do request that if the topic has already been posted that someone redirect my post to the old thread.  Hopefully I can avoid the 'terminology specific' issues that I have already encountered in some of the posts.

Rules Questions / At start of turn' rules clarification
« on: May 26, 2017, 12:59:25 pm »
Hello, hello

My current understanding is the player can choose the order in which to 'resolve' ANY of the cards, that have the 'At the start of...' clauses (including Duration and Reserve cards).

And just to also clarify a player's turn is when the first card is 'played' and calling a card and acting on a duration card has not started a player's turn.

Again for each one can you direct me to the 'relevant' rule?

Thanks
