General Discussion / Re: Random Stuff Part II

I am writing a 2 1/2 page essay due tomorrow, and I have not started at all until now. Here is an excerpt of what I have written so far in it's full legalistic glory:

Quote
Dear Mr. Speaker:

My name is _______, and I have taken my pen to write to you in order to display an essay written on the environment and the economy at large in the present day, which will be beneficial towards the House and Congress making decisions in regards to future lawmaking. Given that you are the current residing Speaker of the House of Representatives and that you have much influence and authority within the House, I direct this letter and its contents to your attention.

Let the bullshitting begin.
It may get more attention than you think written exactly the way it is.  It reads a lot like resolutions do.  I think the fluff and puffery is well matched to your audience/recipient.

One correction though - I can't verify where the speaker sleeps, showers, and stores his clothes, but I think you meant "presiding Speaker of the House".

Wow, a hip cakemaker.  And until this last post, I completely forgot about the 42 thing, even though you wrote about it in the OP.

I guess dolphins would have been an option, now that I think about it.  You could have made the cake out of fish, but "so long" would have maybe sent the wrong message.

Oh man this is a great resource to use next time I hear someone complaining about how the Patriots are nothing but cheaters!
I never said they were nothing but cheaters.  I said that they get lighter punishment (and that was before I realized that we are still waiting on a decision about Brady - he may get nothing).  By contrast, A-Rod never had a positive test, and he got A YEAR'S SUSPENSION.

And to whomever said that Sean Payton "had to know": you have as little evidence of that as I have that Bellicheater "had to know".  But I think any rational person that had gotten hammered over videotaping an opponents practice would be motivated to become more deeply involved and more completely aware of all of the happenings within the organization, lest it run afoul of the rules again.  However, given that the penalties are so light, why bother?  Why not keep cheating?  America has no concept of shame anymore.

Ima is awesome if you are into trance.
I have only heard a bit of trance (about 15 years ago in a head shop in Seattle) but I really liked it. I never dug any deeper though, and have no idea who I was listening to.  Can anyone suggest a few artists or CDs to get an overview?

Also, what are the differences between "trance", "house", and "drums and bass"?

Note: these questions are not addressed just to Spellbound.  Please comment - I need some fresh music.

but Brady only gets four games for tampering with the ball in a championship game

oh, gtfoh with this

I know, it shouldn't upset anyone at this point.  The rules don't apply to the Patriots - that's been proven time and time again.

I came back to football for the past 6 or 7 years, as my wife likes it a lot.  But I'm thinking of letting it go again.  The defense is not allowed to hit anyone; no one can lower their head to protect themselves; the refs can't get a handle on what constitutes a completed pass; Sean Payton was penalized a whole season on no evidence, but Brady only gets four games for tampering with the ball in a championship game (and that is decided AFTER the season is over - but you screw with a baseball and they throw you out of the game immediately). Roger Bad-ell is a joke.

The NFL is just a hot mess.

Ok, now it's my turn to ask - how did this not get any upvotes?

Ma?  Is that you?

Too obvious?  Too obscure?  I should have quoted #60 in my post?

If two witches watched two watches, which witch would watch which watch?

I'm pretty sure it's "swatch watches" ;)
Knew a Wiccan girl who jumped into trading those watches at the height of their popularity, and she was very successful.

She cut a wide witch swath swapping Swatch watches.

Moral: Don't knock knick-knacks that go tick-tock.

I have been published in a peer-reviewed journal (first author as an undergrad)!

If I remember correctly, it's in computational chemistry? What's the paper on?
Better yet, give us a link, if it's not behind a paywall.

Tonight I watched Exodus with Christian Bale.

Oh, you know him?

Well if by "know" you mean "sat behind him in the theatre occasionally clamping hair samples during the noisy parts of the film" then yeah.

Fixed that for you.

Why doesn't this have any upvotes?

(Feel free to upvote the original post.) Note period INSIDE the quote marks as the sentence is a complete one.

So this is a little awkward.

The intranet has a link to e-mail HR. I had a health insurance question, so I clicked on the link to ask my question. I realize now that the link sends it to a distribution list and not a shared mailbox, so I sent the same question to 10 people, including the VP of HR. Who advertises a distribution list as a means of contact anyway?
Did you mean to post this in the "f.ds at work" thread?

And it's a horrible death, with an apple tree growing inside you.  The only thing worse is eating a watermelon seed.

In unrelated news, my parents are going South for the weekend. They expect temperatures of 44ºC during the day. That's just ridiculous for the beginning of July.

That's ridiculous for any time of the year.  Like, that's literally a temperature that most humans can't actually deal with.
That is way hot.  I've only experienced as high as 41.6 C (117 F), several times in Las Vegas.
41.6˚ C is actually only 107˚ F (sorry for being pedantic).

Correcting mathematical errors is never pedantic.  Nice catch - I shouldn't do math in my head.  The 117 F is correct, and I should have said 47.2 degrees C.

You wouldn't say "2+2=Cheesecake" is an unpopular opinion just because it's a blatantly false statement.
But 2 + 2 does equal Cheescake in base Ramsey.
