Favorite: Faithful Hound.  Maybe not super useful always, but tons of fun when it actually helps.

Least favorite: Beggar.

Most useful: Probably Watch Tower.  Fools Gold is often important too.

Scrying Pool: Always leave cards previously placed on top on top when revealed again.

This is always so annoying

If you were going to have Ruins that directly played cards rather than giving you +Action, you could have had Ruined Throne Room. "You may play an Action card from your hand once."

That's Ruined Village, just worse and more complicated...

I assume that was the joke. Though I could be wrong.

I do like the idea of "you may play an action card from your hand costing 2 or less twice" as a ruin.

So while I am doing wacky stuff, here is another crazy idea for a $5/$6 Action-Reserve:

Put this on your Tavern mat.
--------------------------
When another player would gain a non-Victory card, you may call this to gain that card instead.

It is a kind of mixture between Smugglers, Duplicate and a trashing Attack that triggers on-gain (when the opponent gains a card).
Well, it is not literally the same thing as the gained card doesn't get trashed but it is the closest comparison to existing cards that came to mind and that might help judging the card.

I hate to say it, but even if this worked, it sounds really un-fun.

My first hunch is that this is either broken or unfun due to the "war of attrition" that will emerge in 2P and due to to "Cold War" / "first to move loses" issue that might emerge in multiplayer (A and B have this Reserve card on their Tavern mat, C gains a card. If A calls first then B can call and hurt C as well as A so nobody will call; having the Reserve set aside just serves as defense against the other players calling theirs.).
The multiplayer issue is fixable via restricting it, like Smugglers, to cards that the player to your right would gain.

Dominion Articles / Re: Contraband

I know you said you don't want to include edge cases, but there are a few really big ones when it comes to Contraband.  Colony/Platinum (As mentioned), Border Village, and Dominate being in the kingdom often make Contraband worth it.

It is also better when there are very expensive and good cards like Overlord, City Quarter, Fortune, Kings Court, etc.  When you reach those high price points (or even when the opponent thinks you will) they are forced into letting you have the expensive card or two good cheaper cards of your choice.

Dominion FAQ / Re: Counterfeit Clarification
« on: June 05, 2018, 11:11:41 am »
For number 3, you generally do narrorate things as you do them, such as “I play Village, draw a card. Silver, Silver, Cooper, buy a Witch. Your turn.”

But the difference between Pawn and Counterfiet is that with Pawn, stating your choices out loud is the only way to let your opponent know what you have chosen. With Counterfiet, your choice becomes known because you actually play something else.

In other words, you don’t need to say “I play Counterfiet, choosing Gold.” Instead, you would put Counterfiet on the table, then put Gold on the table, announcing each card as it goes on the table. So yes, you do announce things; all I meant was that you actually play the Gold, you don’t simply name Gold.

Announcing it might still be right.  What if I play Counterfeit, then choose to not counterfeit anything, then continue playing treasures. (Lord Rattington taught me that awesome strategy) In that case it seems like you'd need to announce that you aren't choosing anything, or you'd need to announce the cases when you do choose a treasure to play twice.

Nothing ground breaking, but in a game where highway and Mine were the only $5 cards, I Mined a copper into a gold, which is a very satisfying (and neat) card interaction.

I like Reclaim. You are totally right Gazbag that it doesn't look very fancy but I don't think that it has to be, it has the simplicity of an official card.
It is probably weaker than other Remodel variants for early remodeling as it is slower but brilliant later in the game and for endgame Gold/Provinces to Provinces.

Bastion looks very slow. Perhaps if it weren't limited to Estates, or if it were a Night card with that funky "This is gained to your hand" trick. Also it could use the Island mat?
In games without trashers it is not slower than Island which is what you have to compare Bastion with. Island is also very slow, a one-shot that only quasi-trashers one card but makes up for that via VPs.
It would be too good (at $4 or at any price?) if it could set aside other Victory cards. Non-terminal is an option though.
At first it seems bonkers with Shepherd but Shepherd wants the Estates to remain in your deck. It is probably still good, not at least because Bastion itself being a Victory card makes Shepherd more reliable, but I don't think that it will be broken.

I do like the night card idea.  Or maybe rather than that it could also look through the discard pile for Estates.  IDK it's hard for me to tell how good this would be, but I feel like it needs a slight buff.

I like these!

I feel like Scrounger is really good.  I mean, Buying a Smithy at $5 is fine in the first place if you need draw.  The second ability can be absolutely massive (or a complete dud, I know.)  I feel like this is better than Catacombs, Patrol, Rabble, Tragic Hero, and many other $5 Smithies by a good margin.  That being said, I've never played with it and I could be way off. Plus I'm not generally great at determining the strength of cards before playing with them.  I do really like the card though.  You say it might not be interesting enough, but it looks like a fun card to me.

If it does end up being too strong, you could do something like this.

"Choose one.  +4 cards then discard 2 cards; or take up to 3 cards from your discard pile into your hand."  That kinda nerfs it a bit while increasing the "Scrounging" effect when chained. And it becomes more interesting.

Theater and Stock Exchange will make people get some serious analysis paralysis.  I think you need to use the non-cantrip smog.  They need to actively clog your deck.

The self-trashing version should be hard enough to trash since you'd have to get one in play first.

Not sure if Supermarket would be good, but I do know that the 3 treasure limit really isn't that bad. With any kind of engine going, it shouldn't be too hard to only use 3 treasures.

Edit: I really like General Store.  Cool idea!

Wasn't it so that when you trash a Rat with Outpost, you draw the card below the other two revealed cards? I was pretty sure that's how it goes. It kind of implies that revealed cards are in a special place. So that would imply Locusts does indeed miss the shuffle.

You meant Lookout, right?

I’m a big Raptors fan, even when they make me cry against Lebron

Poor raptors.  They're actually one of my top teams as well.  But man they just don't show up in the playoffs.

Rules Questions / Re: Sacrifice and Inheritance
« on: May 04, 2018, 06:09:55 pm »

Note that this also means that if you Inherit Fortress and Sacrifice an Estate, you do get both bonuses.

Wait, if I Inherit Fortress, once I trash an Estate it is no longer mine and no longer a Fortress, right? Wouldn't this prevent the Estate from returning to my hand, hence preventing me from getting both bonuses by using Sacrifice?

I believe Donald ruled back when Inheritance first came out that trashing an Estate-as-Fortress meant that you did in fact trash a card that says "when you trash this.." so it still happens. Even if it only makes sense intuitively, rather than programatically.

I don't know if I'm worthy of my avatar anymore.  I'm having an identity crisis.

Without any spoilers, please advise... I've seen every MCU movie except for Black Panther. I was planning on watching that before Infinity War, but just found out that it won't be on DVD for another 2 weeks. So... if I go see Infinity War without having seen Black Panther, will I be missing anything important; anything that won't make sense in Infinity War?

Not really, you should be fine.  There are a couple characters that won't be familiar, but honestly, with so many superheros running around in this movie, they aren't on screen for that long.

All you need to know is that Wakanda has lots of vibranium and technology.

Dominion Articles / Re: Villa Quarry: A PSA
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:37:09 pm »
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you don't necessarily want all of the Villas.  If you don't need additional actions or buys, Villa is basically just a Copper (that can be drawn dead, costs more, etc.), and gaining a bunch of Coppers to your hand is probably not the best move.

So while this combo is certainly useful, you should take care not to do it unthinkingly just because you can; make sure that every Villa you buy is making your deck stronger rather than weaker (or denying your opponent, moving towards a three-pile, or serving some other purpose that makes it worthwhile).  Even without this combo, I've often seen inexperienced players overbuy Villas just because it's convenient even when those Villas did them more harm than good.

Even though your point is totally true, I feel inclined to point out that in this case villas don't cost more than coppers.

Yeah it wasn't great.  That's okay though.  I expected Russ to have at least one good game, and I'm pretty confident the Jazz will win game 6 at home.  As long as both Russ and Push-off P don't both go nuts at the same time again.

Yes! I’m a Celts fan specifically but I watch the entire league as well. I have also occasionally had to clear space on my phone when it has filled up with a backlog of NBA podcasts.

It was too bad you guys didn't get to see my man Hayward playing.  That injury was gnarly.

Yeah, I wrote off the whole season 5 minutes into the first game. I thought it was impressive how well they did without him, and then to see them with a good chance to win a playoff series without him or Kyrie is just ridiculous. I'm excited for next season if everyone is healthy. Tatum and Brown and even Rozier have been surprisingly awesome.

I think Hayward might end up being pretty redundant with Tatum playing so well.  They might regret that big contract soon.

I like that second wording much better.  Otherwise highway would make it too easy to pile drive. Once you have a lead and get 2 or 3 highways in play you could pile out the cheap cards.  Actually, you don't need a lead seeing as you can pile out the estates.  Maybe you should even make it say "While this is in play, when you buy a card that costs more than $1, +1 Buy.

Matchmaking matches you with people of roughly the same skill level, so someone playing online does not mean they will necessarily play good opponents. There are lots of people who understand nothing about Dominion strategy and if you are someone who understands even basic Eurogame strategy, you will never be close to being matched against them.

It is obvious looking at Chase's post history that when his profile says he is 13 years old that this is accurate. I fully believe Chase has games against his parents where he gets to build up to buy his ludicrously expensive custom cards and still wins.

Chase, I enjoyed reading your cards, another great set along the levels of Dominion: Gunpowder.

I don't think I was around for the (in)famous Gunpowder expansion.  Where do I find that thread? I'd very much like to read it.
