Game Reports / Re: An Ambassador vs Masquerade Game

Gardens/Silk Road, taking Haggler or Festival, and masquerade (hoping to receive victory cards easily).
4/3 : Gardens/Silk Road - Masquerade
5/2 : Festival/Haggler - Estate.

I love when someone win against an Alchemist player, I hate alchemist  :P

Very nice combo.

I wonder if there will be a single-type victory card, like Gardens in the base set, Duke in Intrigue, Vineyard in Alchemy, Fairgrounds in Cornuccopia and Silk Road in Hinterlands.

I think about :

- A card which depend on the treasures
- A card which depend on the estates
- The opposite of the gardens (X VP - Y for every Z cards in your deck)
- The opposite of the fairgrounds (X VP for every Y same named cards in your deck)
- The opposite of silk road (X VP - Y for every Z victory cards in your deck)
- A card which depend on the total cost of the cards in your deck (X VP for every Y$ in your deck).

These ideas are a little crazy, and I'm sure the majority of these cards doesn't work. But... it's fun to imagine  :D

Fortune teller  :'(

Fortune teller "the worst attack" ? I can't agree. Sometimes Fortune teller is better than a single rabble. Maybe I'm crazy but I think Fortune teller is even better than Swindler or Oracle. Well, fortune teller is weak when there are Tournament or baron... but how many times it happens ?

You can put a curse on top of your opponent's deck, like Sea hag.
You can put a province on top of his deck, and after, use your saboteur.
But Fortune teller's attack is very good, generally.

Fortune teller, the most underrated card in the game ^^. In this category, I would put also Develop and Woodcutter.
And Black market is too high, I think.

I'm surprised to see Harvest in so many "least bought" list. Well, the card isn't incredibly good, but... Harvest is a terminal gold, or even 4$. I think, for the price, it's good enough to buy it.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: More Fun With (Un)popular Buys
« on: January 04, 2012, 05:28:16 pm »
Most bought :

8* - Peddler (95,7)
6 - Grand Market (100  :o )
6 - Border Village (92,6)
5 - Bazaar (94,4)
5 - City (91,7)
4 - Island (97,1  ;D )
4 - Caravan (92,9)
4 - Farming village (92,6)
4 - Mining village (92,3)
3 - Fishing village (100  :o )

Island is one of my favorites cards, to be precise, the second after Menagerie ! I buy a huge of islands at the early game.
I'm surprised to see Mining village here, and so many villages in general ! 6 in the board ! Yet I'm not a village idiot X)
Here, I would start a grand market race, taking peddlers. Simply...

Least bought :

0P - Transmute (18,2)
3 - Workshop (7,7)
3 - Watchtower (20,7)
3P - Philosopher's stone (4,8)
4 - Thief (6,3)
5 - Contraband (9,1)
5 - Stash (12,5)
5 - Explorer (16,7)
5 - Counting house (21,7)
6 - Adventurer (19,1)

I don't buy philosopher's stone often, simply because I don't know how to use it, and I don't want to buy a potion especially for Philosopher's stone.
I would go for a Thief + BM strategy.

And chapel... 56.8 only !

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Ill-Gotten Gains - bad for the game?
« on: January 04, 2012, 06:05:36 am »
I always found IGG very fun ! I would even say it's one of the funniest cards in Hinterlands ! And the artwork of the card is awesome ^^ .
I agree with Thisisnotasmile, JoaT or Minion are more boring, when they are played as an entire strategy (minion chain or double jack)
As a curse-giver, IGG is less painful than a King's court + torturer/witch. Really, I don't understand your complaints about it.

« on: January 03, 2012, 12:50:16 pm »
Excellent article, I think silk road is terribly underrated, too. I love this card, because I love victory cards in general (especially island !). Baron is also a nice card with silk road. Like horse traders, but when you can't discard an estate, gain it !
Trade route is sometimes good, when there are many victory cards in the setup. (trash a copper for $5, buy a duchy/silk road and another copper).

1084
I'm surprised to see Courtyard so high, and Haven so low.

Also, Crossroad is sometimes SO powerful. I remember nice games with crossroads, like Crossroads + baron, or crossroads + Trade route + silk road (trashing the coppers with trade route and buying others with the +buy). Crossroad is one of the best I think, even if sometimes crossroad is useless (in a game with others villages and trashed estates).

Yes, the Ironworks-Island is a great combo. Island-Silk road, another. Crossroads-Island, another. I love Island, Silk road and crossroads. So, this is a great board.

I don't really understand the second board. I know lookout is great against sea hag, but why NV was so good ?

And for the third... interesting. Bridge is a fun card. And Bridge + Bridge + Smugglers seems very good.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: I read it differently
« on: December 31, 2011, 09:23:46 am »
I often forget :

- The attack of bureaucrat
- "each other player may trash a card", for bishop
- "each other player may discard 2 cards, of he does, he draw a card" for vault
- The +1 buy of contraband

1087
I'd love to see others cards about variety, like Cornuccopia.
Also, I hope to see some Action/victory cards, or Treasure/Victory... or simple Victory card like Gardens, Silk Road, Vineyard, etc...

1088
I'm also very impatient. ::)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Greatest Isotropic Moments of 2011
« on: December 21, 2011, 08:57:56 am »
Just played today.
In a Mountebank game, without +buy, all the curses were out, and we both managed to trash them with lookout…
But without the help of my opponent, I think I would lose the game :

Quote
— fag's turn 23 —
fag plays a Swindler.
... getting +$2.
... brokoli turns up a Curse and trashes it.
... replacing brokoli's Curse with a Copper.

fag plays 3 Coppers and a Silver.
fag buys a Gold.
(fag reshuffles.)
(fag draws: a Copper, a Scheme, and 3 Silvers.)

[because all curses were out, the only 0$ card was copper].

This is fun, because the game was very, very close :

Quote
#1 brokoli: 36 points (3 Provinces, 3 Duchies, 7 ▼, and 2 Estates); 28 turns
         opening: Monument / Lookout
         [40 cards] 3 Schemes, 2 Lookouts, 2 Mountebanks, 1 Monument, 10 Coppers, 9 Silvers, 1 Potion, 4 Golds, 2 Estates, 3 Duchies, 3 Provinces

#2 fag: 36 points (5 Provinces, 3 ▼, and 3 Estates); 29 turns
     opening: Monument / Swindler
     [43 cards] 3 Lookouts, 2 Mountebanks, 1 Monument, 1 Scheme, 1 Swindler, 12 Coppers, 10 Silvers, 5 Golds, 3 Estates, 5 Provinces

So, thank to swindler I won the game :D

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Stables vs La
« on: December 20, 2011, 03:50:26 pm »
I think they are both good. Stables cycle your deck faster, but it's risky (if you don't have copper, or if you have a lot of victory cards).

Quote from: GendoIkari
I'm no expert, but I would probably avoid buying more than 2 Stables in general, while buying as many Labs as possible. Basically, a hand full of Stables is as good as a hand full of Curses. Even 1 turn of drawing a Stable without any treasure could be a huge hinderance.

I disagree. Almost always, you have a copper (or at worst, a silver) in your hand. The stables draws 3 cards, so you'll easily have another copper to discard with stables. And a stables rush is as effective as a laboratory rush. So, I would take often more than 3 stables.

« on: December 20, 2011, 11:49:03 am »
Bridge is a card I have long underestimated, thinking about a terminal silver  :o .

Also,

Lookout - I thought it was too risky. But with the +action, the card is interesting.
Torturer - Choose between a militia and a crappy witch... I just forgot the +3 card...
Ghost Ship - At first, I thought militia would be strongest than ghost ship. After, I saw I was wrong.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Evaluate your best and your worst board
« on: December 19, 2011, 10:29:16 am »
Best :

2$ - Embargo, Secret chamber
3$ - Woodcutter
3P$ - Apothecary
4$ - Ironworks, Quarry, Island
5$ - Counting house, Stash, Hunting party

… Funny, and interesting board. I don't love all of these cards. I hate Stash. Apothecary is annoying.
In this board, My favorite card is Island. I like also Hunting Party. Couting house is fun but too situationnal.
Embargo is depending very much of the opponent's strategy.
I think I will go for a simple Island rush.
After that, I will take quarry and woodcutter/Ironworks, this combo can help me to take a lot of HP.

Worst board :

2$ - Duchess
3$ - Oasis, Loan, Ambassador, Chancellor
4$ - Mining village, Bridge,
5$ - Cache, Upgrade, Cartographer

Here, I think I will open Mining village / Loan, taking some oasis instead of silver (so I can trash my coppers easily, with loan). And I will take 2-3 cartographers, an Upgrade and BM.
Bridge and Ambassador are pretty useless.

An upcoming article on baron ? Yeah, I love this card  :D

1095
Chancellor / Couting house

Edit - Same idea :

Alice's hand : Market, Market, Market, Chancellor, Couting house

Alice plays Market - Market - Market
... drawing 2 festivals and a library
She plays a Festival - Festival - Library
... drawing 3 festivals and 3 coppersmiths
She plays Chancellor - Festival - Coppersmith - Festival - Coppersmith - Festival - Coppersmith - Couting House
... Taking 14 coppers in her hand.
She buys 8 provinces or 7 colonies.

I played a game today, and I really enjoyed it. I went for baron, silk road and Inn/Horse traders.
My opponent was losing, and said "fuck you" before resigning.

I don't know if it often happens, but I hate this kind of behavior...

But this means that you are losing one more card in order to get any advantage.

Ok, I'll discard an estate or a province from my hand. Where is the problem ? And If I discard a copper, It's like a stable...
The fact is that often, you'll not need to discard (except with laboratories, caravan, ...). The hamlet is just a help, and will work normally.

With cards like Festival, Horse traders, fishing village, warehouse, and terminal silvers like mountebank, it's very good.
