Game Reports / Mid-game strategy change

Just played an interesting game.
Like my opponent, my initial goal was Tournament + Rebuild to get the followers. Unfortunately, he took the followers first* so I had to take the trusty steed.
So, I had to change my strategy because against followers and so many rebuilds, I was basically dead for the province split.
And I decided to go for duke, taking two times the 4 silvers from trusty steed...
I think I made the right decision, even if my opponent was damn too fast and I had no time to buy more duchies and dukes.

*I'm sure it's because he bought a second rebuild while I bought stupidly a second duchy.

Something that should be covered, I think.
A few cards really depends on your opponent's strategy : Rogue, Thief, Knights...
How and when do you decide to get them ?
A general article would be very welcome, if someone is interested...

(also a strategy article on rogue is absolutely needed : this card is very complex for me)

I'm interested to know if in dark ages there are good terminal silvers that combo with Hunting party : Scavenger ? Mystic ? Counterfeit ? Dame Silvia ?

This is the kind of game where I really didn't know what I was doing. I tend to think that Rebuild and Duke don't go well together, but here I had Ironworks, Border village and Duchess which are usually enough reason to go for duke. But I decided to try with rebuild and it seemed to work quite well...

What would be your strategy ?

Remake is an interesting card, but often used as a trasher, more than its upgrade effect.
When do you use remake for other things than coppers and estates ?
I can only think of IGG / Cultist / Border village...

One of my last games had the following kingdom :

Fool's Gold
Herbalist
Lighthouse
Fortune teller
Alchemist
Thief
Council's room
Ill-Gotten Gains
Library
Expand

I think this kingdom is pretty interesting. There are some FG supports (Herbalist and Council room, maybe Alchemist), but IGG and Thief are strong counters.
IGG seems obvious to me. But how would you play otherwise ?
- Fortune teller is usually quite nice with cursers. Would you take one ?
- Expand on IGG for province seems cute, but is it worth it ?
- Would you buy a thief ? It depends on your opponent's strategy but how ?
- Lighthouse against thief ?
- Maybe I am wrong... do you think Alchemist + Council room / Herbalist + FG ignoring IGG can be competitive ?

I just played a game on goko but forgot to take the log.
So the kingdom was : Haven, Scrying Pool, Alchemist, Remake, Monument, Bandit camp, Treasury, Merchant ship, Vault, Adventurer

Bandit camp is the only village and it kind of anti-synergize with scrying pool. Remake is not really good with SP either because it turn estates into silvers...

I opened Remake-Haven (5/2  :() then bought a potion and tried something with SP - Bandit Camp -Vault - Monument but it didn't work well...

This game was really fun, upgrade+bridge involves lot of tactical decisions... especially on the last turn

Help! / Don't know what to do here

Kingdom : Native Village, Ambassador, Market Square, Scheme, Death Cart, Salvager, Smithy, Treasure Map, Hunting Party, Mine

I tried an absolutely weird and weak strategy with native village, ambassador, death cart and treasure map. (log  ::))

There is no real good terminal for Hunting party. Maybe Mine ? But usually HP doesn't like trashing.
So perhaps a simple Ambassador - Treasure map ? I wonder if there is something better. Maybe add a salvager and a market square ?

I thought this game was made for Horn of plenty megaturn, but wharf and baron were already so good that I could finish the game very, very quickly (I only had one Horn of plenty). I love to play King's court + Baron, that's so fun ! :D

Some interesting moves here :

- I used squire for +buy
- I trashed a hunting grounds with bishop because all my deck was already drawn (turn 17)
- I used explorer for a gold each time in hand

I don't played optimally, but 18 turns is already not that bad...

4 provinces + 3 duchies by turn 16.
I'm pretty sure it could be improved (minion slowed me), it's really a very strong combo. Better than NV+Bridge I think.

Related to this.

Saboteur : I love this card and I hope I'm not the only one. Sab could've been boring if it was powerful, fortunatelly it isn't. Donald's words disappoints me, I really think this card is fine and I don't understand why people hate it more than Mountebank or Witch.

Precisely, I'm surprised not to see Mountebank-Witch in the list. They are overpowered and just kill any kind of fun engine the game can have. They lengthen the game a lot and make it boring. I don't see this problem with Sea Hag, Torturer or Young witch : Sea Hag is not really good for BM (unlike witch-mountebank), Torturer is an engine-card so it is still interesting, and Young witch always have a bane.

Personally, another card I really don't like is Alchemist. What's the point ? You are essentially playing each turn Alchemist-alchemist-alchemist-alchemist-play treasures-buy alchemist-put all alchemists on top and repeat...

Key cards : Mountebank, Bishop, Forager, Moat, King's court, City

So in this game I decided to ignore mountebank, for the simple reason that I don't like this card because it makes the game pretty boring.
Instead, I tried to defend myself with KC-bishop, moat, city (because the curse pile was going to be empty), and forager.

I am sure ignoring mountebank was a bad strategic play, but it's still impressive to see my victory.

In this game, I sarted with remodel and fool's gold, turning the FG into golds quickly to remodel and farmland them into provinces.
It was clearly a stupid idea, especially with witch on the board, but I couldn't resist !  ;D

Dominion Strategy Wiki Feedback / Card translations

It'd be cool to add translations for each card name (german, french, etc). It would be useful for people who don't know the english card names, because translations are not always obvious.

Edit : To be more precise, if I am a french guy who want to read article and secret history on a specific card (for example "argent noir" -IGG-), I could just search "argent noir" to be redirected on Ill-gotten gains.

There is a lot of simple cards concept we haven't seen in the game, and that seems to work at first sight (before Dark Ages, Junk Dealer was an example).

Some ideas :

Trasher village

Trash a card from your hand

Cantrip remodel (or grand upgrade)
$7 - Action

Trash a card from your hand. gain a card costing exactly $2 more than it.

Victory village
$4 - Action

Worth 1 VP

Duke of estates
(something which give a number of points per estate in your deck at the end of the game).

Another heavy hinterland game.
Specifity is that I opened intentionally with spice merchant. My reasoning was that without coppers it would be easier to discard tunnel with oasis (with the help of crossroads).

I doubt that this is the best strategy, but it was fun !  ;D
