Game Reports / IGG and Duke

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/05/game-20120705-030948-4f9836a5.html

This colony game was very close. Sometimes, I was behind and couldn't buy a duchy ("Penultimate Duchy rule"). So Duke helped me a lot.

Yes, IGG games are interesting.

Game Reports / Bishop - Secret chamber - Tunnel engine
« on: June 25, 2012, 06:28:10 am »
I love this game I just played : http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/25/game-20120625-032225-f9971177.html
Almost each turns, I trash my golds with bishop, play secret chamber discarding 2/3 tunnels.
Maybe I was lucky and his strategy was better than mine, but it was a very fun game.

Just played on isotropic : http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/23/game-20120423-143931-ea997fe6.html

To be fair, I didn't played it optimally because I was tired (my trading post was a huge mistake). But this game was very fun (not for my opponent though). I love the different synergies : University and City, City and Council room, Council room and Militia, Council room and gardens, Haggler and gardens, University and gardens...

Variants and Fan Cards / Card idea using VP tokens
« on: March 23, 2012, 09:04:30 am »
[CARDNAME]
Action-Duration $4
When you play this card, put a [cardname] token of your color on top of a supply pile (not emptied).
At the start of each turn, gain a VP token for each [cardname] token of your color in play.
----------
When a player buy a card with a [cardname] token on it, he remove the token.

(you discard this only when a [cardname] token is removed, otherwise the card remains in your play area)

So the idea is to force the opponent to buy a card as soon as possible, otherwise you gain victory points.
Obviously it's nice to put a token on curses, but also on expensive cards like Adventurer...
There is obivouly a nice synergy with embargo...

I find it interesting, please tell me what you think. I need a name for this card, and feel free to reword the text more clearly (I'm a very bad english speaker, I know).

Game Reports / Tournament & Jack ?
« on: March 08, 2012, 06:02:00 am »
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120308-025359-70ee32fa.html

I lost this game. He started a doubleJack strategy. I was thinking "JoAT somehow conflict with tournament, because you'll have a bunch of silver and it would be difficult to draw province and tournament together".

Seems I was totally wrong, because he managed to take followers and trusty steed. Or perhaps it was just bad luck ?

Dominion General Discussion / Island deck ?

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201202/10/game-20120210-102521-5af853d3.html : duchy version
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201202/10/game-20120210-103913-55905bcc.html : colony version

The idea : trash down to 6/7 cards, buy an Island and a duchy/colony each turn and put them on your island mat.
Do you think it is a viable strategy ?

Masquerade was a good way to trash coppers and estates.

I love Highway  ;D

Very interesting game.
I started with Bureaucrat/Masquerade, he opened Silver/silver

Very soon after, on turn 9, I developed my bureaucrat into Festival/Menagerien putting them on top of my deck.

The next turn, I was very lucky :

Quote
(brokoli draws: 2 Coppers, a Festival, a Province, and a Menagerie.)
...
He play masquerade, I gave him a copper, He gave me an estate
...
   — brokoli's turn 10 —
   brokoli plays a Menagerie.
... revealing a Copper, a Festival, a Province, and an Estate.
... drawing 3 cards and getting +1 action.
   brokoli plays a Festival.
   ... getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$2.
brokoli plays 2 Coppers and 2 Golds.
   brokoli buys a Festival.
   brokoli buys a Margrave.
(brokoli draws: a Copper, a Masquerade, an Estate, a Gold, and a Silver.)

After, he played the combo Margrave/Masquerade.
I think he played too many margraves in a same turn, for insistance, on turn 14, I had a poor draw :
(brokoli draws: a Copper, 2 Provinces, a Silver, and an Estate.)
After three margaves :
   — brokoli's turn 14 —
   brokoli plays a Festival.
   ... getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$2.
brokoli plays a Copper and a Gold.
   brokoli buys a Duchy.
   (brokoli reshuffles.)
(brokoli draws: a Copper, 2 Festivals, a Masquerade, and a Province.)

The game ended closely :

#1 brokoli: 31 points (4 Provinces, 4 Estates, and a Duchy); 15 turns
         opening: Bureaucrat / Masquerade
         [26 cards] 4 Festivals, 2 Menageries, 1 Margrave, 1 Masquerade, 3 Coppers, 3 Silvers, 3 Golds, 4 Estates, 1 Duchy, 4 Provinces

#2 kvothe: 30 points (4 Provinces, a Duchy, and 3 Estates); 16 turns
        opening: Silver / Silver
        [26 cards] 4 Festivals, 3 Margraves, 1 Develop, 1 Laboratory, 1 Masquerade, 1 Menagerie, 1 Mine, 2 Coppers, 1 Silver, 3 Golds, 3 Estates, 1 Duchy, 4 Provinces

Dominion Articles / Combo : Border village + City + Trash for benefit
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:05:49 pm »
I played two games recently with Border village, city and a trash-for-benefit.
Border village is a very very good target for a trash for benefit, because when BV is in play, it's just a simple village with an expensive cost. Peddler work in the same way : in play, it's a simple market without the +buy.

City is a good addition, because often there are at least one pile emptied, and city help to draw more cards like a laboratory. But also with a double action, it's more easy to play several trash for benefit cards in a single turn.

Game 1 : Border village, City, Bishop.
It was easy to empty the festival pile, and City worked very well.

Game 2 : Border village, city, salvager
His swindler was very very bad. Check his turn 13 : I revealed a border village, and he was forced to replace it with a gold.

Game Reports / Familiar or Treasure map + chapel ?
« on: January 19, 2012, 06:23:11 am »
I think this is the first time I didn't open potion with familiar on the board :
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/19/game-20120119-030008-8011d23f.html

cards in supply: Chapel, Courtyard, Familiar, Laboratory, Mountebank, Potion, Rabble, Spice Merchant, Treasure Map, Vineyard, and Wishing Well

I opened treasure map / chapel
He opened Potion / Chapel and I think it was a big mistake. Chapel is bad if you want an early familiar... silver would be better.

So, what would you do ? Opening Potion/Silver or Treasure map/Chapel ?
In 5/2, would you take a mountebank even with familiar on the board ? I know Mountebank/Chapel is the best opening in Council room...

What about spice merchant ?

Dominion General Discussion / Fairgrounds + Silk Road : Viable strategy ?
« on: December 09, 2011, 05:01:16 pm »
Here is a game I've lost.
I thought Fairgrounds + Silk Road would be a weak strategy because fairgrounds requires you to buy differents cards, and Silk Road requires you to rush on the others silk roads, and green cards. And unlike gardens or dukes, with fairgrounds you aren't going to "go green"...

And Here is another game I've lost, trying the Fairgrounds + silk roads strategy. I was too slow...

So, What do you think ?
