Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Warlock

I was bearing that in mind, and that's why this Reaction doesn't stop an Attack.  And there's the added benefit that you can do something with those Curses with this self-same card - there may be a lot of Curses thrown around.

Warlock
Action-Reaction
$4

Discard a Curse.  If you do, +$3.

------

When another player plays an Attack card, you may set this aside from your hand. If you do, each other player gains a Curse.  At the start of your next turn,  return this to your hand.

So the previews will greet me just as I get to work.  Wonderful.  :)

Yeah, I read "Friend Zone" loud and clear.

Once you're in the friend zone it is really tough to get out. Enjoy your new friend and look for a date elsewhere.

Would you rather have a date, or someone to play Dominion with?

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Dominon analogies

Copying from another thread:

Bazar:Festival ::
Lab:Market

How can Festival be ranked higher than Bazaar?? I don't think the watchtower/library combo is enough to justify that.

Scheme:Apprentice ::
Herbalist:Salvager

That one kinda blew my mind when I first realized it.

In particular, Bazaar:Festival :: Lab:Market is a non-obvious but totally exact vanilla analogy which I really like.

Scheme:Apprentice ::
Herbalist:Salvager

is a perfect analogy, because the price differences between the cards are the same.  The only flaw is that Apprentice factors in Potions, whereas Salvager doesn't.

We have one of those?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Ambassador-C-C-C-E

Yeah, bear in mind that while you're "trashing" cards, you're getting cards given right back to you.  Now, the best case scenario (which I just played today), is when your opponent ignores Ambassador.  My opponent ignored Ambassador, but did get a couple Familiars, but I was able to just throw his Curses right back at him.  Then Potions.  By the end, I was throwing extra Silvers at him, as they were getting in the way of my Platinums.  He couldn't do anything, and all because he didn't open Ambassador.

Yeah, pure troll im afraid, was too easy a set up

Meanie.

I'm impressed - only two posts in this thread today.  Do all the forumers here go and do other things on Saturdays?

We are all off trying out the new Dark Ages card in the 2nd Goko beta probably

Had to check and make sure you were lying...  but Goko is separating the expansions into component packs now.

Also, Robz, looking at the member map, you are a handsome young man, if I may say so.

At the time I put myself on the map, I thought everybody was going to do a headshot, because the only other person's I checked was rrenaud, and he did. And now with like 100 people, we are still the only two I think, and I feel foolish. But thanks for the compliment!!

You're quite welcome.  I only saw yours, so I thought it was a thing, so I put up my own... <.<

I'd offer to shack you up in my apartment (I need a roommate as well), but I'm 3 hours from DC.  :(

Dominion Articles / Re: Suggestion: Combo: Haggler/Quarry
« on: August 04, 2012, 06:48:10 pm »
I guess the suggested combo could be useful sometimes, but how often do you want to buy Duchies in order to gain actions? Early in the game and you don't want the green, later in the game you're less likely to get Haggler/Quarry together, and the benefit seems so marginal (the action you get may never be used). Probably the best place for this idea is a Duke board.

Ehh... Quarry-Haggler would let you buy a Duchy (maybe even Estate in some cases) and gain a more expensive Action.  But on a Duke board, what expensive actions do you really want?  It's probably better to buy Duchy/Duke as the main purchase and use Haggler for extra Silver or actions like HT.  Silver is much more valuable than Quarry on a Duke/Duchy board.

I definitely agree with you, I was just trying to think of a situation where this might be useful. I guess the best partner actions for the Haggler/Duke/Quarry/X combo would be the Markets, Wharf, Goons, more Hagglers. There's probably some other nice ones as well. I'm not saying its good though, just that it might be okay sometimes, maybe.

Those are probably better examples - they cost $5, so you wouldn't be able to Haggle them ordinarily.

This gets very nice with Border Village - Duchy/Border Village/Torturer, for instance.

Or you could buy BV, gain Duchy from BV, and Haggle for Torturer, all without Quarry! ;)

That may require Gold, and Quarry is cheaper.

7368
Is QVist going to finish putting these up before the Dark Ages previews start?  I mean, because once those start, 1) we'll be less interested in what we collectively thought of cards from all the other sets and 2) the lists will be obsolete...

Dominion Articles / Suggestion: Combo: Haggler/Quarry
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:33:39 pm »
Just had this thought (but don't feel like fleshing out a full article):

The problem with Haggler is you can't get VP with the second card.  If you buy a Grand Market, you can't pick up a Duchy.  Quarry allows you to get around that by making Actions cheaper, so you can buy the VP card instead.  Play Haggler, Quarry, needed Treasures, then buy a Duchy, Haggling a Grand Market.  This gets very nice with Border Village - Duchy/Border Village/Torturer, for instance.

Governor and Tournament were on the board - I opened 5/2, he opened 4/3.  Of course he opened Tourney/Steward.  I had to open Governor/nothing.  I was getting a Governor engine going, and finally had two Govs and two Golds in hand, which I was ready to turn into two Provinces, when his two Provinces collide with his two tourneys - he picks up Trusty Steed, then Followers.  I resigned.

I tend to show Dominion to prospective boyfriends on the first or second date.  It does help that a lot of gays are reaaallllyyy geeky.

7372
I kinda hope we don't get spoiled halfway through like we did with Hinterlands.  Half the fun for me was seeing his writeups for stuff, and I felt kinda bad when he had to stop doing that and just lay down a clarification of the translation.

Donald X is previewing a week early to prevent exactly that.

Two more days, by the way.

7373
It's actually much weaker than a Moat.

- high cost
- has no benefits other than defense
- requires two to activate, doesn't even provide +actions to get it done
- narrow defense

I mean, it defends against hand-size reduction... and that's about it?  Not going to stop Curses, or deck inspection, or swindling...

It protects against Masquerade.  And Possession.

And then there's Governor/Chapel (shudder).
I had this happen to me today. I opened governor-chapel, Stef settled for silver-chapel. Game lasted 10 turns. Stef won.

What else was on the board?

I would be most likely to believe the flickr account - it seems to fit thematically with Dominion, and the description is "Rio Grande Games."

In fact, let's venture a guess at some names:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcomorte/7197615544/in/set-72157625491457387/ - Knight?  Lord?  Manor?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcomorte/7197617348/in/set-72157625491457387/ - Mercenary (maybe Man at Arms).

http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcomorte/7197618902/in/set-72157625491457387/ - Plague Wagon.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/marcomorte/7197614012/in/set-72157625491457387/ - Holdfast!  A pretty awesome looking one, too.
