I just double-checked all cards and Bureaucrat, Moneylender, Mine and Throne Room all have translation errors too.
They seem to have copy-pasted the first edition translations onto the second edition cards so the translation error for Bureaucrat is still here and Moneylender, Mine and Throne Room are all still mandatory (no 'you may'-clause).

My big Nocturne secret: I don't have Nocturne because it hasn't been released in Dutch yet.

Oh, just checked the image on that link I send. You can see a game being set up... With Secret Chamber in the Kingdom. Great work 999games, great work.

I think it's just an old photo though.

Yeah, I saw it on 999games.nl too, but I didn't find it in my store, and when I asked they said they didn't have it yet. Also, I just noticed the site says "niet op voorraad" for Intrigue, while second edition base is.

I always start by going over the kingdom. Ask players if any cards are new for them and tell them what they do (not just what the card says, but what that actually does to your deck/turns).

For example, if cartographer is new I tell them that you can use cartographer to discard useless cards like curses/coppers/victory cards, and it lets you rearrange your deck so you can choose which card you draw with your next +cards action, or combo with [insert mystic/wishing well/lookout/sentry/herald/tunnel/etc, whatever is in the kingdom].

If I need to introduce people I usually start with cards from base, then introduce one or two mechanics every game (like duration, reserve, multi-type, etc.). I've found that the order expansions are released in is also more or less a good learning order (with some exceptions like alchemy).

Dominion General Discussion / Dutch second edition Dominion is in stores.

Didn't see second edition intrigue yet.
They mistranslated Bandit to make you trash ALL revealed non-Copper treasures.

Translation error streak for 999 games: 5 releases, 9 cards in current streak.

No response from 999 games yet.

Coincidentally, every card that currently has a translation error has been buffed by it.

I wonder which non-English publisher will publish a translation first.

And I wonder which Dutch translation errors will inevitably pop up.

But how much debt is the 'shuffle up to 5 cards from your discard pile into your deck' worth? How much of the $3 debt you get can you pay off with those five shuffled cards?

(Annex has you pick up to five cards to leave in your discard pile. And shuffle the rest into your deck. You mentioned Dutch cards in another thread, so I'm wondering if there's a mistranslation.)

Nah, it's translated right but I remembered it wrong. The actual version sounds worse though.
Still, how much is that effect worth compared to the $3 debt?

The Dutch second editions for base and intrigue are here, but not the update packs.
The 999 games customer service guy told me they would probably make them though.

Jester + cultist/marauder. Hit a ruin, different ruin on top of the ruins pile.
Baron + shelters. I'll just open baronOH WAIT.
Mission + black market. More turns means more black market plays means more oh wait.

Is Annex a viable alternative for a Duchy buy? Like, if one person never buys Annex, and another player always buys an Annex when he would otherwise buy a Duchy, how would they compare? Are those five reshuffled cards worth the extra $3 debt you wouldn't get with a Duchy? You would probably only buy a Duchy when greening, which is when the effect is more useful.

I might try this the next time Annex is on the table.

The person who always buys Duchy over Annex has a very major advantage over the person who always buys Annex over Duchy.

And by “very major advantage”, you of course mean “3 Debt”, which is all things considered not that much? Like you usually just buy the Duchy, but a less extreme version of the hyperbolic best-case You outlined happens pretty routinely in slogs or no-thinning BM games.

Three debt is the difference between being able to buy a Province next turn and being able to buy a Duchy next turn, which is pretty often the difference between winning and losing. So all things considered, it is that much.

But how much debt is the 'shuffle up to 5 cards from your discard pile into your deck' worth? How much of the $3 debt you get can you pay off with those five shuffled cards?

If you can write such an extension, you should get in touch with AI developers, I hear they are stuck with NLP algorithms :p

Having an AI search through these jokes would raise ethical concerns. The poor machine.

The Dutch translation of mining village, when pronounced, is a homonym for 'my village'.
Nearly every time someone plays a mining village someone will ask 'whose village'?

Dutch mining village reskin please.

Which cards do you enjoy so much that you'll sometimes go for them even when you know it's not the best play?

I can think of:
-Embargo. Burn the kingdom. (I'm sorry)
-Masterpiece. A $17 masterpiece buy just feels nice. Destroys my engine though.
-Pirate ship. There's something really satisfying about collecting those coin tokens (while, sadly, trashing opponents' coppers).

My mother mostly plays by buying seemingly random cards and reacting to problems as she encounters them (like buying lots of terminals, then buying villages when she has a hand of three terminals), and she wins about one in ten games.

Did some work editing the 'Translation errors on the Dutch cards' page: http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Translation_errors_on_the_Dutch_cards_-_Vertaalfouten_op_de_Nederlandse_kaarten#Keizerrijken

I'm new to the whole wiki editing thing so I would appreciate some feedback or improvements. Anything I missed or any unwritten rules I broke?

I just got alchemy as the last expansion I didn't have (not counting promos, and nocturne and second edition upgrade packs don't exist in Dutch yet), and it's completely crazy with good trashing. Bonus points if vineyard is in the kingdom. Before I started greening I got up to around twelve-ish for a single scrying pool I think.

And of course you get to dig for your opponents' victory cards/coppers/curses.

With thief and pixie in the kingdom you can steal someone's goat and make a goat eat another goat. Goat cannibalism confirmed canon.

Not that you should buy a thief to begin with.

As far as I can see the kingdom is cellar, workshop, woodcutter, smithy, remodel, market, moat, village, militia, mine.

That's the first edition "first game" recommended kingdom, which sort of makes sense seeing how they're playing.

Furthermore, why are there seven boxes of Dominion on the table if they're only playing base? I'm not entirely sure but I think, in the background, the red one is adventures, orange is alchemy + cornucopia, blue is seaside, yellow ones are prosperity and empires, and the gray ones are base and intrigue. That's what I can find on amazon.de at least. But then why is there also a base set on the other end of the table?

Also they forgot to add curses to the supply.

And I can't find a single moment where there's anything on the trash mat. Wait, shouldn't they have a trash pile card if it's first edition? They ARE using the first edition treasures and victory cards.

-A non-treasure card that gives +$x (probably yes, but none have been previewed).
Raider.

Oh right, I missed that when looking at the wiki.
There's probably going to be more though.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: What do you forget IRL?
« on: November 08, 2017, 07:23:26 am »
OK, there's an easy solution for this. Just play fresh Durations sideways, above your other played cards. At the start of your turn, you resolve each Duration card, turning the ones you're done with right-side-up and moving them down to where you'll play your other cards. Then you just have to remember not to discard sideways cards during Clean-up. It's really foolproof once you get in the habit. I haven't messed up a Duration in years.

I do the same but without turning them sideways. My play area has two 'rows', the top row is for stuff that shouldn't be cleaned up this turn, the bottom row is for stuff that should be. At the start of the turn I move single-turn durations downwards one by one.

Actually, from the rules: "Players keep track of whether or not a Duration card was played on the current turn, such as by keeping cards from the previous turn in a separate line on the table, or by tilting Duration cards when they do something at the start of a turn.", so technically keeping track is mandatory.

If I gain a blessed village and decide to receive the boon at my next turn, and the game ends before then, does the boon count towards gardens/fairgrounds?
