Ha, just a few minutes ago I was filling out a form online, and when it asked my age I typed 28 without even thinking about it... I'm 30....
I thought you were born April 29, 1967.

I had a death and rebirth.

Thief
Counting House
Transmute
Coppersmith
Bureaucrat
Pirate Ship
Saboteur
Chancellor
Contraband
Philosopher's Stone

Council Room -- Lowest Win Rate With

Forgot about Transmute. I had Saboteur in there at first, but replaced it with Counting House. Pirate ship is #44 out of 53 in the best $4 cards list... Bureaucrat is #45.

Dominion General Discussion / The worst Kingdom
« on: April 11, 2013, 11:37:55 am »
Seems likely this may have been discussed already, but how do you play a Kingdom made up of what people generally consider all weak cards?

$2
-Duchess
-Pearl Diver
-Secret Chamber
$3
-Chancellor
-Woodcutter
$4
-Scout
-Thief
$5
-Counting House
-Explorer
$6
-Adventurer

Any suggestions for card replacement?

My best guess... open Silver/Chancellor. Play basic big money, choosing Explorer over Silver until you have 2 Explorers. Always take Pearl Diver with $2.

I suppose. Surely not BM, though?

Oh definitely not. Silver is as close to strictly better for an opener to this as you can get.

Are you sure? Drawing Estate, Concubine, 3 Coppers is worth as much as Estate, Estate, Silver, 2 Coppers. With the replacing of Estates you don't have the chance to get to 6$, but you'll more surely ge to 5$. You'll never have 3 Estates, Silver and Copper. I admit that two 5$ turns are usually worse than a 6$ and a 2$, though.

When I typed that, I got confused and was thinking of original HH, without the on-buy effect.

another probably easy one:

you play your navigator as the last action in your turn. You dont want to discard the 5 cards. Why does the order you put them back still matter?

-Loan
-Venture
-You have Watchtower or Royal Seal and will be topdecking what you buy. So which card you put on the bottom matters.
-You also played an Outpost so you'll only be drawing 3 cards instead of 5.
-You plan to buy Farmland and trash a Rats, Cultist, or Overgrown Estate.

So, just like every other game that Scout is available, then? ;)

I still think opening with it cant be the right move…

I would open this + Ironworks on a Silk Road board probably.

Thief – Replace “they trash one” with “they may trash one”

Your intention is probably that you can leave them their Coppers, but that's not what that sentence would mean.  As written, it would mean that your opponent decides whether or not they trash a treasure (and if they decide yes, then you choose which one).  So this would heavily nerf an already weak card. :P

Thank you.  I fixed it.

I would further fix it to say "if they reveal any treasure cards, you may choose one for them to trash." Currently there's no Dominion card that ever lets you trash another players' cards. It could cause confusion with stuff like "when you trash a card."

Surprised Fairgrounds hasn't gone, personally... with so much variety, I would expect most strategies to involve that, since it's an easy 6VPs or more.

6?? With every single Kingdom Card in play, I'm pretty sure that making Fairgrounds that are worth 40 or so would be the way to go.

Once you've banned King's Court, is it really necessary to change Coppersmith and Bridge wording? I can't imagine that Throne-Rooming those will be an overpowered dominate strategy.

Same with Masquerade. Without King's Court, it's so unlikely that you would ever not be passing a card when you play it anyway, and even if you do, so what? It's only taking 1 card from the players hand, not 3 like KC-Masq.

But this is not super common. Generally I think Smithy is a pretty weak opening, not because it draws Estates you wouldn't otherwise draw, but because playing Smithy to draw Coppers and Estates is not one of the more useful things you can do in the early game. I guess I just interpreted the statement differently than you did.
Okay, I disagree with you here. you want the smithy for later. A lot. And drawing those coppers estates, and usually the silver, is not super awesome amazing times, but what on turn 3-4 are you doing that is? I mean, sometimes there is something (chapel, ambassador, the rare CC-like shenanigans), but most often, not really.

Also, drawing those Estates now means you aren't drawing them next turn. It seems like a common error to play something that draws cards, sees that it just drew you complete crap, and then be upset about it. You just saved your next turn.

Re: gaining back and forth infinitely: this is the situation I had in mind when I said "pretend this works". Here's a rule that's dirty but works -- when you would gain a non-snarfblat card, instead, it becomes a snarfblat card until someone gains it, and your partner gains it.

Ha, reminds me of the "Substance" keyword in Magic.

Personally, I think vanilla half harem is fine. They can't all be the best card ever.

Also, concubine.

I think the problem is the cost. $3 is simply too much, but at $2 it would be strictly better than Estate. It is a card that, if you started the game with, you would want to trash out of your deck, just like Coppers and Estates. The only 2 times you should ever be willing to buy it are 1) times that you would otherwise buy Copper (pretty rare) and 2) times that you would otherwise buy an Estate (only towards the end of the game).

Sure if the game is close to over, and you have exactly $3 or $4 to spend, you choose it over Estate. But otherwise I'm just pretty sure this would be purchased far less often than Explorer, Scout, etc.

"Smithy is often not your best choice on the first turn, because you have a high chance of drawing your Estates card with it."

This I think is actually correct. If there is nearly any way of trashing Estates, it's better to open with that. It says "often", not "never". Usually you're only opening Smithy if you're going something like Smithy Big Money.
I disagree. First of all, it's not often an either-or choice - how many $4 trashers are out there? Moreover, if the trashing is bad, or not there, then you are very often opening something like smithy-silver if you want to build an engine. Even with the trashing, trasher-smithy is not too bad of an opening, though I guess more often you want some coin-producer, whether an action or a silver.

But more, the reasoning there is terrible. I mean, "Smithy is often not your best choice on the first turn" is true, though you can substitute virtually any card for smithy there and be correct. But because you have a high chance of drawing your estates? Who cares! And actually, you are drawing those estates anyway...

It might be worth noting that playing Smithy on turn 3 or 4 will cause your turn 4 purchase to miss the reshuffle whereas it wouldn't have otherwise...

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Is Pillage a good opener?
« on: April 10, 2013, 02:12:39 pm »
How does the early attack compare to the early attack of a Saboteur? A lot of the things I see here is maybe knocking them off of a certain amount, but doesn't sab do something similar destroying a card of a certain amount? And we all probably know how Sab usually ranks.

Most of Sab's bad ranking comes from the fact that it is of no benefit to the person who buys and plays it. At least Pillage gives you the Spoils.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Is Pillage a good opener?

I think it really depends on your other options. I wouldn't take it over a junker, but turning an opponent's $3 hand into a $2 can be devastating if there are no $2s on the board.  Similarly, if there are power $4s that you want two of, forcing them into buying a Silver is nice.  And those Spoils have a good chance of lining up to get you at least one Gold.

The attack is certainly better in the late game when you can destroy your opponent's Province buys, but I think it's still worthwhile in the early game.

Using Pillage to discard Copper means that you just bought a more expensive one-shot Cutpurse...

…which gains you two Spoils. So, not really.

Well sure, but I was responding to the description of what the attack would do to your opponent, in terms of turning his $3 into a $2 or his $4 into a $3.

So just to clarify, when you buy an IGG, your opponent would still get a curse, right? But then that means that you end up getting it instead?

You, player A, are partnered with player C against players B and D.

A buys IGG. A would gain IGG, therefore C gains it instead.
C gained IGG, triggering it's ability. A, B, and D would gain a Curse, so instead C, D, and B gain a Curse.

Right, I had it backwards because you don't gain the IIG if you buy it. Mainly I was clarifying that even though attacks don't hurt your partner, IGG does still hurt your team because it isn't an "attack."

Also, there needs to be something in the rules to stop "when you would gain a card, your partner gains it instead" from simply being an infinite back-and-forth.... because I buy Silver; I would gain Silver so my partner gains it instead; then my partner would gain Silver so I gain it instead; then I....

    HalfHarem 3$

    worth 1$

___________________________
If another player plays an Attack card you may play this card immediatly.
It stays in play until the end of your next turn.

Victory-Treasure-Reaction

That would make it a pretty good 3$ especially against discard attacks.

Should be reworded...

If another player plays an Attack card you may reveal and set this aside from your hand.
At the start of your next turn, return this to your hand.

Action-Treasure-Reaction

Putting stuff into play when it's not your turn is just confusing.

I agree but i want that you play it when you use the reaction so i would word it:
If another player plays an Attack card you may reveal and set this aside from your hand.
At the start of your next turn, play this card.

What's the point? If this is a treasure, they can freely play it in their buy phase anyway. Sure, not forcing them to play it makes it slightly more powerful, because they can discard it to Warehouse, Inn, Celler, etc... but I don't see a problem with that.
