Dominion Articles / Re: Fool's Gold + Chapel
« on: February 07, 2012, 03:01:36 pm »
As someone else mentioned, what about Steward/Fool's Gold. That seems like it wouldn't lose as much as chapel would, and it could use the +2 card of steward late game.

This is pretty similar to a few already posted, but what if Coppers and Curses are empty, and each player's deck consists of only $1 and no gainers?

You hit both players, and tell them they aren't allowed to play Dominion anymore.

RisingJaguar wins the first game in the match, but a certain family member managed to break the CD drive on my work computer and I had to leave to go fix it, we're resuming out matches tomorrow.

Might I make the suggestion that after there has been a decision as to what round two's theme kingdom is, that you post the suggestions that didn't make the cut to the top 5.

It would be interesting to see what didn't make it.

Dear Wandering Winder,

Sorry about our game, as I said before the match started, I'm a big fan of your articles, and the match happened to be Duke/Horse Traders, which happens to be one of the first articles that I'd read and tried to simulate. As the writer of the article you of course see it, and the only reason why I one was your awful shuffle luck. Thanks for accepting my match, and I did enjoy playing you, though I cringed when looking at the log showing your hands.

A fan,
Ferrouswheel

I start out with some ridiculous luck, and then completely fail in the end. What should I have done differently? I realize that I shouldn't have taken some of the curses that I took, but I had been planning on trading posting them to silver as I was a little light on treasure.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Golem + Scheme + 1 good action/attack
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:00:25 am »
To relive this thread, yesterday I had a fun match with Golem+Scheme+Goons.
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120126-113953-79e0c3c2.html
First I saw Gardens + Silk Road, but there were no good support cards there (except for Goons). So I buyed Golem and 2 Schemes.
I could top-deck my Golem nearly every turn and could play Goons every turn. Later I picked up another Golem and could top-deck 2 Golems. Now I could play 2-3 Goons every turn and could deplete Gardens + Silk Road really fast. The coppers and green cards didn't hurt my deck because of Golem+Scheme.
I won with 119 - 47. That was fun and a really strong combo.

I admit that I'm amused by the fact that you ended the garden/silk road game with 49 cards and 19 victory cards. Not saying that you shouldn't have ended it of course, just that it was funny that you were an estate short of 11 more points.

That's one nice estate.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Getting use out of Chancellor
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:11:42 am »

Counting house: ideally you chancellor everything and then CH for whatever you want. However this has the problems of requiring +actions, +buys (to stock up on copper, and still you have to hit a three card combo to make it work. Chancellor/CH/golems is much better (hit a golem, buy a colony, don't hit a golem -> buy a golem, copper, or VP).

Golem / Counting House works just as well as if CH is the only non golem action then the whole deck ends in the discard anyways.

Border Village + Governor is Border Village + $5 cost + T4B in just two cards. And it combos nicely with the governor remodel.

Ferrous is a chemical term for certain iron compounds (I don't remember enough chemistry to be more specific).

"Ferrous" indicates the +2 oxidation state.  It is also not proper notation any longer.  "Iron(II)Wheel" doesn't quite have the same... ring... though.

On that note, my youtube account is Fe2+wheel as someone already had Ferrouswheel.

Ferrouswheel won 4 - 3 against jimjam.

It was a great first six games followed by a Ill-Gotten Gains throw down that I won pretty much by virtue of being first player. I'll post the logs for the other matches later, but here is match #7.

My username is a pun, it was very amusing when I played Eye Urn, as I'm sure anyone who watches the current matches would know.

Here's one funny thing I saw today, and please post yours:

FastGamePlease! begins a solitaire game.
I guess anyone was too slow for him.

In two:
Similar to the earlier solutions but without king's court. Throne Room-trade route with harem, vineyard, gardens, silk road, great hall, tunnel, island, duke, trade route, throne room, estate, colony, duchy, province, with 12 trade route tokens on the trade route board for a +24$ and total of 3 buys.

She had less points than her opponent and shouldn't have bought the border village? :P

Do we get to know the point spread?

I specified that she was winning. :) Not telling by how much. ;)

Whoops managed to completely miss that part.

I've had minor success with a late Scout after Harem-spam.  But it's not something anyone wants early in the game.
I actually had a fairly good game with a harems mint scout combo useing the mint to trash all of my none harem treasure and the scout let me province every turn.

Puzzles and Challenges / Play $5, buy a feast
« on: January 12, 2012, 03:02:08 am »
Everyone knows the traditional story of someone opening 5/2 and buying a feast as they didn't like any of the $5 cost cards. When would that actually be a good move?

Dear Factitious, I'm sorry that insane luck got me this on turns 2-4:

--- GendoIkari's turn 2 ---
GendoIkari plays 5 Coppers.
GendoIkari buys a Witch.
(GendoIkari reshuffles.)
(GendoIkari draws: 5 Coppers.)

--- GendoIkari's turn 3 ---
GendoIkari plays 5 Coppers.
GendoIkari buys a Witch.
(GendoIkari draws: a Crossroads, a Copper, and 3 Estates.)

--- GendoIkari's turn 4 ---
GendoIkari plays a Crossroads.
... GendoIkari reveals a Copper and 3 Estates.
... (GendoIkari reshuffles.)
... drawing 3 cards and getting +3 actions.
GendoIkari plays a Witch.
... drawing 2 cards.
... Factitious gains a Curse.
GendoIkari plays a Witch.
... drawing 2 cards.
... Factitious gains a Curse.
GendoIkari plays 6 Coppers.
GendoIkari buys a Gold.
(GendoIkari reshuffles.)
(GendoIkari draws: 2 Coppers, 2 Witches, and an Estate.)

Ouch, the gold is just rubbing it in at that point.

If there were trash for benefit cards out, I'm thinking salvager, remodel, expand, and bishop, I doubt even a crazy engine could pull it off.

edit: and I look at the post above me 2 hours ago and realize I must have skipped over it.

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Crazy Openings
« on: January 09, 2012, 09:06:55 pm »
If you're just blatently cheating, why don't you just buy colonies from the get go? I can't think of a strategy that would beat someone buying a colony every turn starting turn one.

I'm pretty sure Puzzle 1 would beat it.

Or I suppose cheating better, after all you couldn't beat a person who cheated to buy all the cards on their first turn, unless you did it first.
