Variants and Fan Cards / If Pooka could also trash Cursed Gold
« on: September 14, 2018, 09:03:05 pm »
Pooka as is doesn't seem to get a lot of love.  IIRC, it's the least popular Kingdom card with a matching Heirloom.

How much did you buy it before?  How much better would it if it could trash Cursed Gold?

77
Sauna + Avanto would be tops!  Here, I'm thinking they should be gained as a pair, as opposed to having 2 separate instances to gain each one.

78
How good, bad, or decent are the bots in general?  AFAIK, some Dominion AIs have a list of strong cards, so they know to prioritize those.  As expansions get added, that list doesn't always get updated.

79
I'd also add a clause that you're not allowed to buy these cards until at least after someone's performed their 2nd shuffle.  That should simulate the work put in to get the corresponding Supply card, and then that to Gain the non-Supply card.

80
Personally, I think it would save a lot of card space if Possession just said "Possess the player to your left" and then have the rulebook explain what "possess" means.
I always imagine "continued on next card."

The move with things as complex as Possession is of course to *not do them.*
Heh... in order to play a Possession, you need both "part 1" and "part 2" of those cards.  Gameplay-wise, even if you memorized the text on both ;)

If 1E isn't part of the "those we do not speak of", then Saboteur when there are newbies around, or Spy when you have players that aren't paying attention.

Barring those, I'd go with Ghost Ship.  Things do drag with it.

I really wish Urchin cost $4.
Curious, is that how you play it?

Let's Discuss ... / Re: Let's discuss: $2 defensive cards
« on: August 15, 2018, 11:10:01 pm »
Given the cards listed, Moat may be boring, but it's tried and true.

If it doesn't have to be a Reaction card, Cellar has been nice to have against junkers (although it is nice to avoid getting the bad stuff in the first place).

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Your approach with this Kingdom set?
« on: August 15, 2018, 11:05:21 pm »
I’d throw out half the landscape cards before I’d agree to play. I can do more than 2 sometimes, but that’s too much man.

Not against the rules, and even then, this is STILL the sub-forum for such a case.

EDIT: This is message board where we literally have questions on infinite turns, and doing all sorts of crazy stuff.  Take up those extra Events and Landmarks as part of the challenge.

Rules Questions / Re: Self-Pin?
« on: August 14, 2018, 10:15:28 pm »
How about buying some Curses first, then donate everything except the Curses... nice to still have some cards to draw during clean-up each turn, and you can use those Curses to prevent your opponent Mountebank-ing you any nasty Coppers.

The Coppers will let you pay off the Debt ;)

Neat thing is if Quest is available, you can get Gold via that.

Has anyone ever emptied the Black Market pile?
Parameters?  Pile of 25?  50?  75?  E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G?

Even if the latter most, I know some players will take it as a challenge :D

Most emptied piles?

EDIT: nevermind, that was against a bot

That's a fun thing in vs. AI games... try to empty out most, if not ALL the piles!

Dominion General Discussion / Re: A Dominion Chronology
« on: August 10, 2018, 01:39:21 am »
I'm seeing the origin of a legacy-style campaign expansion here.  Time to start tearing up cards, I guess.
If I were to take a stab, I believe some of us already did with their 1E cards  :o

If nothing else, I'd also look forward to taking colored Sharpies to the cards, and applying stickers with +3 Precision.

Dominion General Discussion / Dealing with both Museum and Wolf Den
« on: August 07, 2018, 11:39:52 pm »
Branching out to just one card is a fool's errand since you get +2pts for Museum, but -3pts for Wolf Den for a net of -1 pt.  2 copies of that card gets you the former, but without the latter.

Overall, how many differently named cards have you managed to get without getting hit by Wolf Den?

I hope for more bald people in the artwork.
Say what you will... bald people provide some of the best engines and benefits!
Sweet! Coin tokens have so much unused design space. I always wondered why we never got Action tokens.

I skipped over this thread for several days thinking it was another fan-made expansion. Note to self: Read thread titles more carefully.
It'll all end with Dominion: Omega, introducing the Token token.   You may remove this token from your token mat and use it as any token in any Dominion set  8)

92
Vitruvian man?
A star?
A building dome top?

93
Holy crap yes. And I like how this set was announced almost exactly a year after  Nocturne was

I'm a bit worried that the Artifacts may be political, but I'm sure DXV wouldn't do that to Dominion.

I also love how vague the description for Projects are. "They grant abilities;" that's what Dominion cards do xD.

Not the blanks.  Nor the placeholders ;)

And it kind of IS political.  Here, he is known as "the Donald" :p

94
So first reshuffle would typically be after turn #2

Chapel I recall is less effective.  It can be disrupting if a Fortune Teller forces you to discard this after the first reshuffle

I'd reckon many of the curser attacks like Sea Hag and Witch, but Familiar seemed to not be this way, despite requiring Potion, then after the 2nd reshuffle.

Laboratory
don't shuffle your played cards into your discard

Black Market
This is one of the few exceptions to playing Treasure in your Buy phase

Outpost
There is no 'D' (draw) in ABC!

I interpret the Fool's Gold flavor as a commentary on fiat currency.  The more Fool's Gold gets used and accepted as currency, the more value it has.  Unlike Silver and Gold, the value isn't in the commodity itself, but in its use as a medium of exchange.

What's the conversion rate of Fool's Gold to Schrute Bucks?
Six beets!

Dominion General Discussion / Reactions
« on: July 16, 2018, 10:29:00 pm »
Cards that have the "Reaction" type keyword/attribute, that's also color coded blue.

1) Favorite Reaction card?

2) Least favorite Reaction card?

3) Most useful of them?

For me, i'd go with
1- Horse Trader
I like big hands and I can not lie  ;)
Also, nice to reliably get $5.

2- Diplomat
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer Secret Chamber  ???

3- Watchtower.  Versatile, and has a decent utility.  Trashing cards as gained is still quite a unique ability.

98
A DOH! moment. I forgot it wasn't an attack. This is the result of playing online where everything is taken care of for you, and you forget what is on the cards.
Well, if you play IRL where not everyone knows the nitty gritty, you do miss stuff like this too!

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: eight Coppers?
« on: July 12, 2018, 11:44:51 pm »
In order to make it more like real-life Dominion, ShuffleIT allows your opponent to sneak a Copper into your deck while you aren’t looking.
The better way to make it more like a real life board games is to mimic poor shuffling :p

I disagree with the placement and commentary around Castles.  Castles are usually a more efficient way to green than Provinces.  If the game ends on piles, neither pile is very relevant, but Provinces are a little better.  But if the game is going to last a while, and there isn't a Province-emptying megaturn, you will probably lose if you ignore Castles.  The full Castle stack (in 2P) is worth 45+ VP and is significantly easier to obtain than 8 Provinces (worth 48 VP).  More realistically, you trash a couple Castles with Small Castles and grab a convenient Province to have a ~44 VP to 42 VP lead over a player who gets 7 Provinces.

You can start gaining Castles ever-so-slightly before you would gain Province, because the early Castles provide some payload.  Of the early Castles, Humble Castle is the most important.  This $3 card can easily be worth as much as a Province if Castles aren't contested, and is still great value if you only manage to hold onto 4 Castles by game's end.  Crumbling Castle is the weakest castle; but it's okay if you have overdraw.  Small Castle is a key card if Castles are contested, and it's generally an efficient way to gain the later Castles.  Crumbling Castle is the best target, but Haunted Castle and Small Castle itself are also fine to trash.  Haunted Castle is usually great; it attacks your opponent and provides some payload to afford the later Castles.  In decks with good draw and available +actions, Opulent Castle can be fantastic; it gives you the coins you need as you fill your deck with green.  Sprawling Castle, Grand Castle, and King's Castle are straight points, and competitive or superior to Provinces.  These are the cards you want to use your Small Castle to gain.

I had Castles up on rank 17 of my list, and I think it's being underrated.  Similar to Fairgrounds, Castles adds a significant chunk of VP to the game, which rewards building longer.  Castles are almost always good on a board if Fairgrounds would be good.  While Castles can't be as insane as Fairgrounds in the presence of lots of cards outside of the kingdom (see Black Market), Castles are better any time it's inconvenient to have 15+ unique cards on one's deck - which is most of the time.  I also give Castles the nod over Nobles.  If Nobles is the only source of draw in the kingdom, it can be a key card, but otherwise it's not as impactful as Castles; it represents only 16 extra VP.  I even have Dominate below Castles, because Dominate is an impractical target on a substantial fraction of kingdoms and it works on the shared Province pile.

Does this still hold true when there's a 3 or 4-way race for Castles?  I suppose at that point, you just supplement the rest of your points with the standard Victory cards (or whatever other pts can be had)?
