Dominion General Discussion / McGarnacle's Dominion Musings
« on: August 04, 2016, 11:16:39 am »
I'm creating this thread so we (but mostly I  :) ) can talk about random theoretical Dominion ideas and observations. So gather around children, and hearken to my words of wisdom:

Band of Misfits is like Young Witch because its effectiveness is based heavily on the other cards in the kingdom. Band of Misfits is also like Count because they are both from Dark Ages, and both are versatile. Thematically, if the Young Witch and the Count had kids, they would be a Band of Misfits, because the Count would most likely disown them, instead of recognizing them as heirs.

Profound, right?

#299 - Stash

Nothing wrong with a bag of coins. We were thinking a stash probably ought to be hidden under a floorboard or in the fake bottom of a drawer or something.

What does it say on the stash map? "....rcup?"

#349 - Count

This is the beginning of group X, 13 cards.

I always assumed the guy on the left was the Count but when my daughters asked me, I wasn't so sure.

Chancellor Palpatine, post-electric shock from Mace Windu, makes an appearance. Either that or Norman Bates pulls out his deceased mother from the backroom. Those are some seriously big hands, particularly the finger.

These two talk while the world burns outside.

This is actually some of my favorite art. That guys armor is amazing.

Scout, Pearl Diver, and Transmute are in a plane crash.  Who survives?

Is this going to be a Pearl Harbor joke?

EDIT: No, it wasn't. Not even close. Aaaaanyway..

It's a reference to the standard joke about politicians in a plane crash.  X, Y, Z are in a plane crash.  Who survives? (Country) W.

No, I got that. I was trying to joke that the association between Scout, Pearl Diver, Transmute and "plane crashes" was Pearl Harbor. So Pearl Diver would be the one to survive. Then, I read that you had already revealed what you thought and my already unfunny comment became even less funny.

There, there. We can't all be funny :).

#57 - Venture

The monarch practice his hypnotism skills while listening to another crackpot pitch his wonderful idea that would pay back in cartloads if he is just given the chance.

Has anybody else noticed that the Venturer looks like a hobbit?

#1 - Library

I've always found this picture to be creepy.

I +1 it because it is a Jester-related post.
I did the same for Library, but I didn't feel the need to brag about it...

Whatever, man. You are obviously not a real fan  :).

I find its interaction with Cornucopia is especially interesting. It benefits from a fairly uniform deck, but a deck with lots of variety also work quite well.

Dominion General Discussion / Let's discuss Guilds Cards: Journeyman
« on: August 02, 2016, 08:02:44 pm »

1. How good is Journeyman?
2. What are good combos?
3. When is it a good choice to go for Journeyman.
4. Why do the two people in the image have such cool hats?

Shouldn't the economy of the entire empire have collapsed after those rebel terrorists destroyed not one, but two massive and expensive battle stations?

They probably had insurance.

Ah, but does the insurance cover terrorist attacks?

Margrave/FG is pretty good too, though.

I don't think so.  I mean, I might pick up some FGs if they were free (Princess) and the engine was well up and running, but I just don't see that as a thing in and of itself, at all.

It has the advantage of being faster than the alternative. In a two-player game, opening Margrave/FG is huge.

938
Remake/Silver into hunting party into province/tournament before building up a bit more

Yes, I think that is probably the optimal strategy. Margrave/FG is pretty good too, though.

939
Okay, so I will hopefully be able to make this a weekly series of posted kingdoms which we can discuss. I've personally created all of them, but there is always something new to find each time I play, so I thought I'd post this here.

Margrave's Tournament
Crossroads, Fool's Gold, Menagerie, Farming Village, Remake, Tournament, Silk Road, Hunting Party, Jester, Margrave.

What appears to be the optimal strategy?
How could I improve this kingdom?
Any redundant cards or something I should add?

@Darth Vader-  I'm a hard-working radar technician whose always tries to serve the empire faithfully, but a vacancy just opened up for senior communications officer, and I was wondering if you could put in a good word for me up at high command. It would really mean a lot to me!

Do you play the X Wing miniatures game?

Which is your favourite faction and is Soontir Fel your bro?

No.

I used to know that guy, then Disney decided they all don't exist. Now I don't even remember him. Who is he again?

I actually think he was re-installed in the canon.

942

Not much to say about this. Except maybe "how did he get a hold of that fantastic hat?"

I have a theory that the lady in Forge is the same chick as in the Page Line.

Nah, different hair color. Unless she dyed her hair...

944
Would a Banquet/Banquet opening be a thing with Conting House?

Actually, maybe.

Definitely maybe.

945
True. When we do card rankings, we need to unrealisticaly consider the cards in a vacuum.

I hope that this unrealistic vacuum is one with a see-through collector. I'd hate to have to dig them out of one of those old-school dust bags. But in any case, isn't it easier to just pick up your cards off the floor instead of taking a Hoover to them?

I find you get a better perspective of cards when viewed in a vacuum.

946
if the discussion is which one to get I would say cultist mountebank together would beat straight cultist or straight mountebank.
with cultists two piles run out extremely quickly. so the curses might determine who the winner is. also the cultist draw is much depleted when there are Junkers.
as for going straight mountebank,  you wont give out all the curses fast enough and your deck will become terribly bloated due to your opponent junking your deck.
I don't know when I would go for what but I would go for 2 cultists than a mountebank  but this is really a question for the simulators.

True. When we do card rankings, we need to unrealisticaly consider the cards in a vacuum.

Has anybody filled out their brackets?

No.

Okay... So is anyone still interested in the contest?
Yes but the poll doesn't work

The poll closed because I left it open for three days before I thought of the brackets. Disregard the poll and we will use brackets instead. Sorry for the inconvenience  :).
