Rules Questions / Re: Fortune + Potion

Would have been cool if it doubled the debt though

It might have been interesting to have cards that let you take for an effect.  Like, "You may take to do that again" or something.

I may take to take again?

Might be worth it on a Possession game...  :P

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Comparing power cards
« on: June 19, 2017, 01:01:27 am »
Another comparison of two cards that would be helpful is Governor and Minion. Certainly these are both very good cards that you want in bulk if possible, but what if they're both there? Only had 1 game w/ both a while ago, went Gov and that seemed to be fine. But since Minion is also amazing I got 1 or 2 of those as well. Should I have just bought Governors? Don't remember the board at all, but generally speaking does anyone have an opinion on which is better? Gov speaks to me, gain Golds and then Remodel them for Provinces. Ofc gonna be weaker on boards with Colonies, but I still don't think it's weak there. The option for a non-terminal Council Room that's just 3 cards w/ no buy is really helpful too, tho i use that the least.

Minion is really good though. I'd be skeptical of anyone saying Minion>Gov most of the time, but certainly I'd buy it if someone said a mix is better than just one.

Thereīs a very good chance youīll want them both since Minion will allow you to use Governor draw with almost impunity, ideally you will also want lots of desappering money (like more Minions for example), but at the very least it will make it a lot easier to connect your other Governors with Gold... Do keep in mind that you should be very careful with shuffleing on these kind of decks, itīs very easy to set up one or more dud turns by triggering a stupid shuffle here...

Donate-Knights-Rogue-Tomb match also deaturing Bridge, Moat, Walled Village, Oracle, Courtier and Workshop, making a very so-so engine with not a lot of actions for the amount of terminals you needed to play, after piles were low managed to win by killing half my deck and seting up for the following turn (though I took one turn longer than I should cause I forgot I had to pay off some of the debt...)

An alternative way to play my last turn in one of my league matches against Lalight would lead to this:

The two cards in the deck are a Giant and a Stonemason, and the Magpie is the only card in the discard. Note that thereīs also a -1 coin token from opponentīs Bridge Troll that is not showing...

Here is one I played tonight

Find a forced win this turn.

I can't get a copy of the game to load perfectly.
You can either reload and play game #4228902 from the last decision and then play one Lab to get to the state pictured,
or load the original game #4227616 at decision 213. In either case sit in Deadlock's position of course.

My solution is in #4227616 I'm not up to speed on any way to look at the log, but you can load at the last decision I guess?
Play TR-TR-TR, throning two Festivals and a Remodel,
Remodel Two Labs into Festivals then draw then both with another Lab
            Play all five remaining Festivals
You will have a total of 21 coins and 10 buys (from Gold and playing Festival 9 times) and 30 cards in the deck
Buy the last Festival, 4 Gardens and 5 coppers, to reach a total of 23 points

You can do better if you gain Artisans instead of Festivals with Remodel (which also allows you to win even without Gardens), but the solution is slightly longer...

Well... no one else is going to toot it....

Never thought I'd hit the top 20, but here we are!

Iīll piggyback on your post and note that your screenshot also marks my first foray into the top20! Letīs see how long we can last there...  ;)

Just a thought that crossed my mind while reading this... What would you guys think about a duration version of Possession? In my (very crude) version it would be something like:

Possession -  Action/Duration - 6P

While this is in play, every time your opponent gains a card, gain a card with the same cost or lower. The effect of multiple Possessions do not stack.

It has the unfortunate effect off mixing mechanics from different expansions, and the wording definetely would need a lot of tweaking (it should specify an specific opponent in multiplaye for a start), but I think I managed to pass the idea. I think this might solve quite a few of the common issues with Possession, while somewhat keeping more in line with (my) current idea of the card...

I would just add, while what Awaclus said can be relevant sometimes, do not change your opening buys just because of that, if the other card youīre going for costs 4 you buy it on the turn you have 4 on hand, be that turn 1 or 2. (In a similar vein to what he said, though, itīs frequently a good move to not play all your treasures if you donīt need all your money, if you buy chapel, for example, on turn 1 showing 3 coppers, your opponent will know you did not open 2/5 and can plan with that knowledge, also on endgame showing a lot more money than necessary, might be a hint to your opponent that the rest of your shuffle might be susceptible to duding, etc...)

Adding to the list of cases of Chapel openings that matter between turn 1 or 2, I would say itīs missing possibly the one that possibly matters the most. Turn 1 Summon on Chapel is quite possibly one of the best openings out there and itīs not nearly as good on turn 2, ...

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Help with Watchtower?
« on: May 12, 2017, 01:30:48 am »
Is Cache a reason to go for watchtower? I think your idea here is to trash the incoming coppers and get a "gold" for 5? But if the watchtower was just a copper you would have been able to just buy gold. I guess then you wouldn't be able to top deck it. But even so, watchtower/cache is worse than royal seal/gold. And I don't think Royal Seal/Gold is a power combo. So I suppose to answer your question I would suggest skipping watchtower on cache boards.

I would mostly suggest skipping Cache on Watchtower boards...  :P

Ill-Gotten Gains/Banquet

Coppers are actually quite decent already in your standard Ill-Gotten Gains/Duchy rush, and chances are youīll be able to buy IGG in all your 10 starting turns, most engines would really struggle to get going under those conditions (specially if you are first player and give out two curses before the first shuffle)...

The ferry token gets moved around quite frequently, there were a few times where I remember moving it more than once in the same turn (though that would be unusual)...

I had a board against our dear Lord Rat a while back, where the obelisk card was Rats, and, where, I believe, with just a little tweaking getting all the Rats would probably lead to a win. It didnīt need the tweaking to be the winning strategy against our dear Lord Rat though...  :P

Game Reports / Re: I like Gardens, but not the strategy
« on: February 09, 2017, 12:39:46 pm »
In case anyone wants to break this down further, how big of a deterrent is Bureaucrat to this strategy? If Chapel is on the board, should you then just not go Gardens? If you go second and your opponent doesn't open w/ any Workshops, is Militia a good buy? Since they can switch over to Gardens...maybe.

Bureaucratīs attack is very annoying to the gardens rush, but at the same time itīs also a rather weak card that most engines would really struggle to play them consistently, so itīs mostly not a big deterrent I would say. Chapel is one of the best engine enablers in the game, but there would still need to be an actually good engine to build in the rest of the kingdom, so there isnīt a definete answer there. And for the Militia question... If you think Workshop/Gardens is worth going for, then the answer would be no. You will probably have very little opportunity to play the Militia beyond the second shuffle, and youīll probably be really missing the extra workshop, both because you want the extra card, and to accelerate the end game.

Game Reports / Re: I like Gardens, but not the strategy
« on: February 02, 2017, 07:29:17 pm »
With, Chapel, Festival and Library on the board, the engine will surely outpace the workshop/garden rush. Now, on a pure Workshop/Garden, Iīd pick one, maaaybe two Villages (probably one or none is better I believe, but not really sure), but definetely, not half the pile. Your goal is to end the game as fast as possible, donīt mind the terminal Workshop collision, playing Workshop every turn is way more important, pick Estates agressivelly every time you reach 2, but not 3 (or even on 3 after workshop is gone), if you donīt reach two pick copper. When you start going for Gardens really depends on whether itīs a  mirror or not. In a non-mirror there's simulador evidence that you should start going for Gardens after getting 9 Workshops, in a mirror it's a lot harder to decide, I would probably start on them sometime during the second shuffle
