"Hm, no way to trash starting cards and no +Cards? There's Possession but eh. I'll just gain lots of Ports and a few Processions, gain a ton of Distant Lands, and figure it out later."

Some point in the middle of the game: "Oh right Lost City is kind of +Cards. Well, screw it let's just get more Distant Lands. Maybe I can outrace Possession? Who knows."

Turn 9: Ports empty
Turn 10: I gain my 5th Distant Lands
Turn 12: Distant Lands empty

I have a healthy VP lead, but my opponent has a lot of Lost Cities and Possession, and is going to wreck me in a few turns if I don't end the game.

"Darn, 1 buy a turn, and most of my Ports got trashed into Distant Lands so I don't have ways to empty a 3rd pile. Oh wait lol Embargo tokens were a thing this game."

Gain 5 curses in my last 2 turns for the win.

Games like this are why I think it's funny people assume I have a plan for each game. Sometimes I just YOLO and see what happens.

The interaction here is Duplicte/Embargo though and, by that time, you had pretty much won the game already, since the point difference was pretty insurmountable, considering how close the game was to the end.

Your Swamp Hagging opponent could have resigned knowing you really won.  I guess that makes him a Scum Bag in the moment.

Well, I certainly think that it would be a nice gesture from him, but I don't blame him for not doing it. Misclicks like this can be considered a part of online Domínion and if he thinks like that there's nothing wrong in taking a win from my mistake. I do admit I waited for about a minute after explaining in the chat what happened to see what was going to be his reaction, since he didn't respond I just quit. I have only myself to blame for this loss though... (And maybe I can blame MF a bit too considering how many times I have seen players make mistakes with this particular interaction though...)

On the other hand I believe there might be some kind of joke in this post that I'm missing... Hehe...

So, I see this board yesterday with Native Village and Bridge Troll, and, well the combo probably doesn't work for Bridge Troll, but then I notice Duplicate, and think... Well this could make it work...

So my opponent is playing somewhat unfocused, making the game seemingly under control even with some rather suboptimal playing from my part, the combo looks somewhat nice though, could definitely work, though I think if it was Bridge Troll/Duplicate with some engine support it would be quite a bit better, but there's not much of an engine in this board. Anyway, the time to kick off my megaturn is finally there!

When looking at 2 card combos, thereīs a need to differentiate between combos that are strategys just by themselves (like Counting House/Travelling Fair, Hermit/Market Square, etc) and combos that just provide very good support for the cards around them, or that can at least be made a lot better by the cards surrounding it. For example, Upgrade/Rats, is a wonderful combo if there are other good 5īs around, but quite weak otherwise (do keep in mind though, that strong 5īs is actually quite common), Fishing village/Wharf is quite good by itself, but will only be amazing if there are other strong cards you can also play with all the extra actions you should have.

Sure, there are also cards that make those combos I called "strategys just by themselves" even stronger (Bank comes to mind in the Counting House/Travelling Fair one http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15459.0 ), but the diference is that those things are quite rare, most of the times youīll be playing them with no support whatsoever.

I feel this might have a lot to do with how we're graded in school/uni, in general 60 is passing grade in most places, so people tend to associate that to something that's borderline acceptable, and rate accordingly to that notion

You're giving Adventurer too much credit, If it would cost 5 it would be very similar to Harvest, probably worse than Harvest. Adventurer is the only card in Dominion that I never really understood the cost (specially since it's so heavily outclassed by gold...)

Not exactly, but a lot, I'm pretty sure over 1000.

Actually quite more than that, if you consider there's around 400 cards, that would result in around 80 thousand duels! So I really think that's quite an unpractical way, if you wanna rate all the cards. There might be an algorithm to make this number quite smaller (something like: if card A beats card B and Card B beats card, then card A automatically beats card C) but I[m not sure there is one.

On another note, had quite of a good time rating these yesterday, still haven't reached my final rankings yet though. It[s my first year doing these and I would like to thank Qvist for all your hard work putting these up! ^^

First, it's 300 cards (299 to be exact) and second, yeah the algorithm is already optimized for as few duels as possible. No way it's 80000.

In the art rankings there are 394 different cards and I actually tried doing it by duels yesterday, since I thought it was easier to judge the art that way, but after some 400ish duels and apparently going nowhere, I gave up on it... hehe

Magpie BM, is definitely a thing. In BM, magpie can be much closer to lab then in an engine (and magpie is a quite strong card, a bit overestimated in last year Qvist rankings though  :P, but quite strong nonetheless). If you have a simple way of getting rid of your estates, magpie  BM is very strong.

In this game, yesterday, I played magpie BM and got 5 provinces in 11(!) turns. I do feel I got a bit lucky (specially turn 6, which led to me decisively (and quickly) winning the magpie split), and plan is a better enabler than develop, but it does show that it can be really fast strategy.

i don't think two player dominion has much of a metagame. What I see frequently happening is that there are two competing strategies and one is stronger than the second only if the other player doesn't  mirror, so in the end both players end up somewhat suboptimally. Multiplayer dominion on the other hand should have a lot of meta. If three players go for the same engine, there might not be enough components for all of them, and a fourth player going BM might end up with a clear road to victory, in another case there might have a big engine available, but if all three other players go for something like workshop/gardens, your engine will never have a chance to get running. So being first player in a game like this (specially since a strategy like workshop/gardens generally requires commitment from turn 1) you really have too ask yourself what do you think the other players will do.

You seem too be talking about when to green, but that's not meta, that's evaluating strategy. You gotta evaluate if the optimal strategy in a given board is a late blooming engine that can overcome an strategy that greens early, or if the early greener can potentially build enough of an early lead that it becomes insurmountable. Of course since dominion has a decent  luck factor still you might always pick the best strategy and still lose, so evaluating when luck was a big factor is also an important thing when trying to improve your game.

PStone, is a quite weak, but situationally useful card, worse than silver, but itīs a card that Iīd be sad if it was gone, since itīs quite an interesting slog card... But one thing that comes to mind though is that when playing Dominion with the physical cards itīs probably pretty annoying all the card counting... (I have never played alchemy with physical cards...)

Is there a question you want answered?

Well, I see the FAQ as mostly just covering questions a player not as versed in Dominion arcana as we are might have.  So they might wonder if they could play the Avanto for free later in their turn if they already played a Sauna, rather than just right away.  Or if you Crown a Silver, if that means you can trash two things with Sauna.  Or if they'll have extra Actions after chaining Sauna-Avanto-Sauna-Avanto-Sauna.

This.

"When you play Sauna, you first draw a card and get +1 Action. You may then immediately play an Avanto from your hand. This does not take up one of your actions, including the action provided by Sauna. You can only play an Avanto this way directly after playing the Sauna, not if you played another action card inbetween, even if you have a Sauna in play.

When you play Avanto, you first draw 3 cards. You may then immeditately play a Sauna from your hand. This does not take up any of your actions, and Sauna will still give you +1 Action if you play it this way. You can only play a Sauna this way directly after playing the Avanto, not if you played another action card inbetween, even if you have an Avanto in play.

You can play Sauna and Avanto in alteration this way, taking up only the action for the first of the cards you play. You can do this until you don't have the respective card in hand after playing the other. When you play a Sauna, you can not immediately play a Sauna from your hand without using up one action. The same goes for playing Avanto after Avanto.

While Sauna is in play, you can trash a card from your hand anytime you play a Silver. If you play the same Silver several times, such as with Counterfeit (Dominion - Dark Ages) or Crown (Dominion - Empires) you may trash a card each time you play the Silver. You do not have to trash anything when you play a Silver. You can decide to trash a card every time you play a Silver, you do not have to decide once for the entire turn. When Sauna leaves play, such as being trashed with Procession (Dominion - Dark Ages), you can not use its effect anymore. When you have several Saunas in play and play a Silver, you can trash a card from your hand for every Sauna you have in play. You can still decide to not trash a card each time."

"When you play a card, follow each of the instructions on the card, literally, in the order they are written in."

That's a one sentence FAQ for every card ever made. The FAQ is for people who don't grasp that concept fully. Everyone who does grasp it, usually doesn't need the FAQ.

Well, while thatīs true for most cards, there are quite a few cards in dominion that have lead to some rather complicated/unintuitive rulings (like band of misfits, trader, scheme, etc), thereīs the band of misfits/conspirator interaction thatīs specifically on my mind right now...
