Dominion General Discussion / The Dominion Cards Lists 2018 Edition
« on: December 05, 2018, 03:59:57 am »
Six years have already passed since the first Dominion Card Lists were compiled, the skill level of all players raised and a lot of new knowledge is gained. Another new expansion was released, so everyone is eager to learn how the new cards rank. That means it's time for the 2018 edition of the Dominion Card Lists. Please read the following text carefully to avoid frustration.

What do you have to do?
If you like to contribute, go to http://www.qvist.de/dommesh for the best cards list. I won't do the favourite cards and the best card art list this year around as I won't have time to present the results.
This video from last year walks you basically through how the web app works or just read on:

I'm not the best web designer to make it look nice, but it works. You have 3 options to submit your list. You can 1.) compare two cards at a time or 2.) order the cards all at once in a big list or 3.) rate them with numerical values. If you do the first option, the app will tell you when you're done and no new "card duel" is available anymore. This is not the recommended method anymore as it takes a very long time to do this. Internally option 1 and 2 is stored in one list and option 3 in a separate list. There are 2 links for exporting one list to another, so you can for example first give each card a numerical value for a rough estimate and then copy the list and fine tune it by either ordering them or do the remaining comparisms. Be careful if you do so though as it is heavy load on the database. Make sure to have at least a 1-20 scale to not overload the database. I didn't include a registration or anything like that for this simple app. You can just login by your ShuffleIT name and any password you like. The next time you login you just have to remember the password you've set on your first login. I expect that nobody will trick me by using a user name of anyone else. If you have no ShuffleIT account, just use a user name of your choice. If you don't know an expansion very well you can choose to leave it out. But be sure that if you want to include a card of a specific expansion, you have to rank all cards of the expansion. There are no restriction with Promo cards, so if you don't know e.g. Summon or Dismantle very well, you can leave it out.

To clarify as there is much confusion apparently: You can vote in any of the 3 methods. Therefore a S, A, B, C, D, E, F voting works as long as you convert that to a 7 to 1 rating in the "Rate" method. Also: Don't forget to mark your lists as finished when you are.

Cards are only counted if they are kingdom cards. If you want to look up the card texts and also the last year's lists, just go to our wiki. http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com
If you submit your list, you also agree that I may give this to third party, like theory or rrenaud. If you don't agree send me a PM.

If you've submitted last year, I will not take your last submission into account.

I included extra lists for Prizes, individual Knights, Ruins, Events, Landmarks, Boons, Hexes and Projects. These are optional, you don't have to rank them if you don't want.
For Hexes, the "best" one is the one that is the most harmful.
You can also if you want rank all the kingdom cards in one big list. This is also optional as this takes a lot of time.

Usual disclaimer: This list should cause discussion not hassle. Of course it's difficult to compare some of the cards because pretty much every card has some situations where it shines and situations where it doesn't. This isn't a scientific list, just a compiled list of the community's opinion of the best cards.

What else?
Submission deadline is the 31st of January 2019 11:59pm UTC. Again: Don't forget to mark your list as finished until then.
Each card will get a percentage value based on the rank. So your best card gets 100% and your worst gets 0%. This will result in a compiled list of all of your lists.
As I don't have much time this year, results will get presented by a group of people with the upside of the results being presented in a much shorter time frame. Thanks for all the volunteers.
If you encounter some bugs, just send me a PM and I'll fix them ASAP.

Let's see how many submissions we get this time. The more we get the better the rankings will be. I can't wait to get your submissions. If you have any questions, ask them here.

Non-Mafia Game Threads / Colonists (Game End, Watno won)
« on: January 26, 2018, 07:01:50 am »
The game is fairly simple at its core. You have a main meeple (Steward) that you move on a hex grid of tiles. To every tile you move to, you do what the tile says which is gathering resources or spending them for buildings on your tableau for the most part. You have 3 moves per turn, that is basically the core of it.

Rules in a nutshell:

- The game takes place over 4 eras, each 5 years long, each 2 half-years, each taking each player 3 moves on a hex grid of tiles, making this 120 moves per player.
- Each Hex Tile triggers an action. The actions are mostly
-- either gathering the resources
-- or refining the resources (wood into planks, clay into bricks, ore into bars)
-- or spending the resources for a building that you add to your tableau. Sometimes you also
-- sell resources for money (=VP)
-- get cards
-- play cards

3 more key rules:

1.) Moving: You can either move to an adjacent tile (you can only go to a tile if you can fulfill the action) or jump to a Market of your choice. You can't end after 3 moves on the same spot you started. If you enter a space of an opponent you have to pay him a fee (exception: Markets).
2.) Paying resources: You need to have the full cost in your storage available. Additional resources in warehouses or production building buffers (which can store one year worth of production) aren't available to you. But you can swap the content of storage and warehouse, move buffer resources to your storage or get rid of resources before any action.
3.) Workers: Almost every building needs to be run by a worker. There are 3 tiers: Farmer (green), Citizen (yellow), Merchant (red) and the icon of the building shows by which kind of worker and how many it needs to be run. Each year and when you man a building you have to pay food and/or clothes depending on the tier of the worker.

Other than that you just follow the order of events. Every year there is sustenance and production, additional tiles get added to the grid. Every era the card piles get swapped. Moves are fairly straightforward in my experience quite often (most of the 120 turns are quite obvious), difficulty comes mainly into play through the random 4 out of 8 colony buildings that are in the game which drastically change your game powers and deciding for the correct colonies is quite important. Not sure why Watno's group's experience was so long, I have only played Singleplayer though so far. Box basically says 4h for the full game. First game of course takes longer. Other Games / Zachtronics Games
« on: January 08, 2018, 03:51:15 am »
Who else is playing Zachtronics games? For those who don't know. They are all puzzle games from one company with the target audience of programmers or those who want to learn programming.

I recently discovered Opus Magnum and the puzzles are so awesome. Optimizing and getting better scores is really a lot of fun. Now I reached the point where solving the puzzles is already quite a feat, let alone optimizing them. I avoided spoilers so far, but would love to compare scores with you guys. PM me if you play it so we can add each other as a friend on steam.

Which other games from Zachtronics would you guys recommend next? Shenzhen I/O is maybe a bit too programmy for my taste on first look. Can anyone confirm? What about the other ones?

Constraints: Solo game, Possession is banned. If you use Black Market, don't make your solution dependant on which cards you buy from the BM deck, max 4 Events as you can't use more on Dominion Online, if you use less the better.

Spoiler:

Here is my solution for 5 turns, can you do better?

I basically use majiponi's infinite combo, go upvote his post, it's amazing: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15366.msg651636#msg651636

The Best Cards - Part 1/10

40+ votes for Empires cards, ~54 votes for the rest.

#96 ▼1 Harvest (Cornucopia) Weighted Average: 5.2% ▼2.4pp / Unweighted Average: 6.1% / Median: 2.4% ▼2.2pp / Standard Deviation: 9.8%

Counting House was last every time, but Harvest ousts it from the last rank. Harvest was voted last 15 times and has a very low deviation as it was never voted above average.
#95 ▼1 Cache (Hinterlands) Weighted Average: 6.9% ▼1.0pp / Unweighted Average: 8.3% / Median: 4.2% ▼0.7pp / Standard Deviation: 12.1%

Cache also loses one rank and is now second to last. It was voted last 6 times and has only one vote above average. It is 2 ranks higher in the unweighted ranking.
#94 ▼2 Saboteur (Intrigue) Weighted Average: 7.2% ▼2.2pp / Unweighted Average: 8.0% / Median: 5.1% ▼2.2pp / Standard Deviation: 10.7%

Saboteur was second to last 2 times and lost 2 ranks this year to be close to that, third to last. It was voted last 9 times with only one outlier way higher than 26%.
#93 ▲3 Counting House (Prosperity) Weighted Average: 7.6% ▲0.2pp / Unweighted Average: 7.4% / Median: 4.2% ▼1.9pp / Standard Deviation: 8.0%

Couting House is not last anymore, no it went up 3 ranks, but still with around the same average. It was voted last 4 times and has a really low deviation with no votes above average and only 1 vote above 27%. It is 2 ranks lower in the unweighted ranking.
#92 ▲1 Stash (Promo) Weighted Average: 9.1% ▲0.1pp / Unweighted Average: 9.9% / Median: 4.2% ▼3.1pp / Standard Deviation: 13.9%

Stash is the second $5 treasure card at the bottom, but won one rank with basically the same average. It was voted last 5 times with one outlier above 41%.
#91 =0 Contraband (Prosperity) Weighted Average: 9.6% ▼2.7pp / Unweighted Average: 12.1% / Median: 6.9% ▲2.9pp / Standard Deviation: 16.7%

Contraband is the third $5 treasure card and stays on the same rank, but with a lower average. It was voted last 3 times and has a pretty high deviation for a low ranked card as it got 5 votes way above 22%. It is 2 ranks higher in the unweighted ranking.
#90 =0 Mandarin (Hinterlands) Weighted Average: 10.4% ▼2.5pp / Unweighted Average: 12.0% / Median: 8.1% ▼2.9pp / Standard Deviation: 11.7%

Mandarin stays on the same rank as well with a lower average. It's the first card with no votes on the last rank.
#89 ▼2 Mine (Base) Weighted Average: 11.6% ▼4.0pp / Unweighted Average: 13.5% / Median: 9.5% ▼4.4pp / Standard Deviation: 12.3%

Mine lost 2 ranks, the 2 ranks it went up last year. It was voted last twice and has one big outlier above 41%. It is one rank higher in the unweighted ranking.
#88 ▲1 Royal Seal (Prosperity) Weighted Average: 11.7% ▼2.5pp / Unweighted Average: 13.8% / Median: 9.8% ▼1.2pp / Standard Deviation: 10.7%

Royal Seal is the fourth $5 treasure card in the bottom 10, but is one rank better with a worse average. It is one rank higher in the unweighted ranking. It has only a small lead over Mine of 0.08pp.
#87 ▲1 Explorer (Seaside) Weighted Average: 12.0% ▼2.7pp / Unweighted Average: 11.7% / Median: 9.8% ▼1.2pp / Standard Deviation: 7.2%

Explorer is one rank better with a lower average just like Royal Seal. It was voted last once, has the second lowest deviation in this list with no vote above 36%. It is 4 ranks lower in the unweighted ranking, so underappreciated by newer players.

8

#3 =0 Princess Weighted Average: 62.7% ▲6.6pp / Unweighted Average: 59.1% / Median: 50.0% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 20.7%

Princess stays on the same rank as well, but is still significantly better than before. It has also a huge lead over Diadem which means that the Top 3 are just way better than the bottom 2. It has the highest deviation and was voted first 7 times. The one outlier in this list voted Princess last.
#2 =0 Trusty Steed Weighted Average: 79.3% ▲1.1pp / Unweighted Average: 78.4% / Median: 75.0% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 17.4%

Ranks #67-#69 are only 0.3pp apart. Coppersmith lost one rank after rising 4 ranks last year. It has the third lowest deviation in this list and is 3 ranks lower in the unweighted ranking.
#66 Rocks (Empires) Weighted Average: 13.6% / Unweighted Average: 17.4% / Median: 11.1% / Standard Deviation: 16.8%

Chancellor stays last since nearly the beginning. It even lost points and its deviation is the lowest of this whole list, so there's no doubt. It was voted last 23 times.
#48 =0 Great Hall (Intrigue) Weighted Average: 8.5% ▼5.6pp / Unweighted Average: 8.8% / Median: 4.8% ▼5.0pp / Standard Deviation: 9.9%

#44 ▼2 Sage (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 23.7% ▼1.9pp / Unweighted Average: 26.9% / Median: 21.4% ▼2.8pp / Standard Deviation: 20.3%

Losing consistently ranks the last years, Sage loses again 2 ranks. It is 3 ranks higher in the unweighted ranking, so newer players overvalue it. It was voted last once.
#43 ▼3 Workshop (Base) Weighted Average: 24.0% ▼3.2pp / Unweighted Average: 24.4% / Median: 20.8% ▼3.0pp / Standard Deviation: 15.9%

After rising 5 ranks last year, Workshop falls back down 3 ranks. In the unweighted ranking it's even one more rank lower. It's at least the first card with no vote on the last rank.

#40 ▼2 Caravan Guard (Adventures) Weighted Average: 25.5% ▼3.8pp / Unweighted Average: 27.5% / Median: 25.0% ▼1.2pp / Standard Deviation: 17.5%

Caravan Guard lost 2 ranks, but is one rank higher in the unweighted ranking.

50+ votes for Empires cards, 65 votes for the rest.

The Best - Cards (Part 1/4)

#39 =0 Duchess (Hinterlands) Weighted Average: 4.9% ▼4.5pp / Unweighted Average: 6.1% / Median: 2.6% ▼3.7pp / Standard Deviation: 11.2%

Duchess is last just like last year and the first voting. It lost a lot of points and was voted last 22 times. It has the second lowest deviation in this list.
#38 =0 Secret Chamber (Intrigue) Weighted Average: 6.3% ▼3.7pp / Unweighted Average: 8.5% / Median: 2.6% ▼2.2pp / Standard Deviation: 14.3%

Secret Chamber also stays on the same rank and is only slightly voted better than Duchess. It has also the same amount of last ranks, 22.
#37 ▼1 Pearl Diver (Seaside) Weighted Average: 13.1% ▼4.2pp / Unweighted Average: 13.3% / Median: 9.4% ▼6.2pp  / Standard Deviation: 11.6%

Pearl Diver lost one rank and is like every time (with the exception of last year) third to last. It has already quite a solid lead over the bottom 2. It was voted last 3 times and has the third lowest deviation in this list.
#36 ▲1 Herbalist (Alchemy) Weighted Average: 16.3% ▲0.8pp / Unweighted Average: 17.9% / Median: 15.8% ▲3.3pp / Standard Deviation: 13.6%

Herbalist is one rank higher and the first card with a better average than last year and is with the exception of last year fourth last again. It was voted last twice.
#35 =0 Beggar (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 18.5% ▼2.9pp / Unweighted Average: 21.2% / Median: 13.2% ▼5.6pp / Standard Deviation: 19.0%

Beggar stays where it was. Its median is even worse than Herbalist's. It has one vote on last.
#34 =0 Embargo (Seaside) Weighted Average: 19.2% ▼7.7pp / Unweighted Average: 21.5% / Median: 15.8% ▼12.3pp / Standard Deviation: 15.9%

Embargo stays also where it was, but has lost quite a lot, nearly 8pp and its median even more. It is the first card with no vote on the last rank.
#33 =0 Quest (Adventures) Weighted Average: 25.4% ▼4.0pp / Unweighted Average: 29.1% / Median: 23.7% ▼1.3pp / Standard Deviation: 18.3%

This is the first event after the second bigger gap in this list, this time over 6pp. Quest stays also where it was and lost also a bit.
#32 Tax (Empires) Weighted Average: 25.6% / Unweighted Average: 27.0% / Median: 18.4% / Standard Deviation: 24.3%

Here is the first new Empires card and the second event. It has only a small lead over Quest. Its rank is quite convoluted given it has the second highest deviation in this list - it was also voted last 4 times. It has also quite a notable low median in comparism to its average.
#31 ▼2 Moat (Base) Weighted Average: 26.9% ▼8.4pp / Unweighted Average: 29.6% / Median: 26.3% ▼2.9pp / Standard Deviation: 17.3%

Moat lost two ranks, but a lot of points, over 8pp. It was voted last once.

Dominion General Discussion / The Dominion Cards Lists 2016 Edition: Ruins
« on: December 02, 2016, 03:30:54 pm »
I received 45 votes for this list.

The Ruins

#5 =0 Ruined Village (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 0.8% ▲0.5pp / Unweighted Average: 1.1% / Median: 0% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 5.2%

Again there is no change here. Nearly everyone voted Ruined Village last, only 2 didn't and voted it second last.
#4 =0 Ruined Library (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 47.5% ▲0.8pp / Unweighted Average: 46.1% / Median: 50% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 23.5%

Again the closest battle was between #4 and #3. Ruined Library is the second worse Ruin again with one vote on last and 2 votes on the first rank.
#3 =0 Survivors (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 49.8% ▼0.7pp / Unweighted Average: 54.4% / Median: 50% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 24.3%

Survivors is also still on the same rank, especially lower ranked player voted it higher. It has 5 votes on the first rank.
#2 =0 Abandoned Mine (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 66.2% ▼6.7pp / Unweighted Average: 62.8% / Median: 75% =0pp / Standard Deviation: 26.2%

After losing the first rank last year, Abandoned Mine stays on the same rank, yeah it was even more obvious, nearly 20pp is the gap to rank 1. It was voted last once and first 9 times. It has the highest deviation in this list.
#1 =0 Ruined Market (Dark Ages) Weighted Average: 85.9% ▲6.4pp / Unweighted Average: 85.6% / Median: 100% ▲25.0pp / Standard Deviation: 23.3%

Ruined Market stays on the first rank, so the whole list didn't change. And with that big of a lead there's not a lot of doubt of it being first.

Dominion General Discussion / The Dominion Cards Lists 2016 Edition
« on: October 11, 2016, 06:32:45 pm »
Four years passed since the first Dominion Card Lists were compiled, the skill level of all players raised and a lot of new knowledge is gained. Again a new expansion was released and everyone is eager to learn how the new cards rank. That means it's time for the 2016 edition of the Dominion Card Lists.

What do you have to do?
This time there are 3 lists due to popular demand. If you like to contribute, go to http://www.qvist.de/dommesh for the best cards list, http://www.qvist.de/dommesh_fav for your favourite cards and http://www.qvist.de/dommesh_art for the best card art.
This video walks you basically through how the web app works or just read on:

I'm not the best web designer to make it look nice, but it works. You have 3 options to submit your list. You can 1.) compare two cards at a time or 2.) order the cards all at once in a big list or 3.) rate them with numerical values. If you do the first option, the app will tell you when you're done and no new "card duel" is available anymore. Internally option 1 and 2 is stored in one list and option 3 in a separate list. There are 2 links for exporting one list to another, so you can for example first give each card a numerical value for a rough estimate and then copy the list and fine tune it by either ordering them or do the remaining comparisms. I didn't include a registration or anything like that for this simple app. You can just login by your Making Fun name and any password you like. The next time you login you just have to remember the password you've set on your first login. I expect that nobody will trick me by using a user name of anyone else. If you have no Making Fun account, just use a user name of your choice. I will also still accept PMs if you still want to do that in the old fashioned way. If you send me a PM please be sure that you put each card in order and don't miss any. If you don't know an expansion very well you can choose to leave it out. But be sure that if you want to include a card of a specific expansion, you have to rank all cards of the expansion. There are no restriction with Promo cards, so if you don't know e.g. Summon very well, you can leave it out.

Cards are only counted if they are kingdom cards, so no Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Potion, Estate, Duchy, Province, Colony, Curse, Prizes, Shelters, Ruins, Spoils, Madman, Mercenary, individual Knights, Treasure Hunter, Warrior, Hero, Champion, Soldier, Fugitive, Disciple or Teacher are allowed. If you want to look up the card texts and also the last year's lists, just go to our wiki. http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com
Regarding Empires: The majority wanted to treat the debt cards like normal coins cost, Castles are in $6+ as the majority costs $6 or more and the rest of the split piles get both cards to rank, so keep that in mind when ranking/rating.
Regarding 2nd Editions: They were just announced, so the new cards aren't available for the first two lists, but you can vote for them in the Art List. The old cards are also still available to rank.
If you submit your list, you also agree that I may give this to third party, like theory or rrenaud. If you don't agree send me a PM.

If you've submitted last year, I will not take your last submission into account.
But if you didn't save your last year's submission and you need it, feel free to PM me and I will send it to you.
Just arrange the cards for your ranking with the best card going first and the worst on the last position.

I included extra lists for Prizes, individual Knights, Ruins, Events and Landmarks. These are optional, you don't have to rank them if you don't want.
You can also if you want rank all the kingdom cards in one big list. This is also optional as this takes a lot of time.
If you want PM me, this list should be subdivided into several lists, containing:
39 $0-$2 cards, 49 $3 cards, 73 $4 cards, 96 $5 cards, 32 $6+ cards, 10 Potion cards = 299

Usual disclaimer: This list should cause discussion not hassle. Of course it's difficult to compare some of the cards because pretty much every card has some situations where it shines and situations where it doesn't. This isn't a scientific list, just a compiled list of the community's opinion of the best cards.

Submission deadline is the 20th of November 11:59pm UTC.
Each card will get a percentage value based on the rank. So your best card gets 100% and your worst gets 0%. This will result in a compiled list of all of your lists.
When I post the results, I will also include the ususal statistic data. I plan to make videos again for each list, just to give you my thoughts why I think this card landed where it did and some statistics.
If you encounter some bugs, just send me a PM and I'll fix them ASAP.

Let's see how many submissions we get this time. The more we get the better the rankings will be. I can't wait to get your submissions. If you have any questions, ask them here.

Rules Questions / Is the card from Secret Passage really secret?
« on: October 06, 2016, 10:12:40 am »
Is it common knowledge to my opponent where I have put my card? I mean he obviously sees if I have put it on top or on the bottom, but how about if I count the cards and put it as the 6th card. Does my opponent know that or can I count in secret?

Other Games / Tabletopia
« on: July 13, 2016, 05:55:09 pm »
Has anyone tried this yet?

For anyone who doesn't know: It's basically Tabletop Simulator with "legal" content. The idea is that board games get implemented officially by the designers and designers even playtest their new board games there. A lot of famous designers like Vital Lacerda already use it for that. It's basically a 3d representation of a board game with no rules enforcement.

So apparently, you can get it for 10$ on Steam for an Early Access as it's still in development, but it has already around 200 board games to play. What I'm not sure is the subscription model they have. You can pay 5$/month for Silver level or 10$/month for Gold level. Paying apparently gives you access to "premium games" whatever that means and "private gaming rooms" whatever that means. Also I'm hesitant to pay 10$ as I'm not sure what you can do yet in the Early Access.

Other Games / Let's Play Board Games on Youtube
« on: July 13, 2016, 08:28:44 am »
Hey everybody. I really like watching board game related videos, but mostly prefer watching let's plays or playthroughs than reviews like Rodney Smith, Richard Ham, Ricky Royal, Michael Wißner or Hunter & Cron in German do. It gives me a better feel of the game and is just more enjoyable. I always wanted to do videos like that myself, but I have the problem 1.) that I have not many games, especially not new ones as I mainly play with my wife and we can't afford to buy always the newest games, 2.) I don't have a good camera only my smartphone (I mean rahdo started with his iPhone as well, but I'm not sure if I could do that) and 3.) that my games are in German and I want to make videos in English. Because of those things I never did that. A couple of week ago I remembered that there are websites like yucata.de, boardgamearena.com and boiteajeux.net which I played on a few years ago. I started playing on yucata.de and thought "Hey I could record those games like I do with Dominion". I searched on youtube and found very few videos of other people doing that. I'm not sure other people would enjoy watching that, but let's try. So I recorded 2 games already and want to hear the reaction. So my question is, are you interested in watching those and if yes, do you like those videos? I have the videos as "not listed" so far until I get some reactions. My goal is to always play a different game and learn most of the games available there one by one.

The first game I played is Kashgar: Händler der Seidenstraße. Because I have a lot of people watching me because of Dominion I decided to record a deck builder of a different kind. Also it's not released in English and it's awesome.

The next game I played is The Voyages of Marco Polo. I chose it because it's one of the newest games there and won Deutscher Spielepreis last year.

Other Games / Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective
« on: June 04, 2016, 12:15:05 pm »
My wife and I are just playing this old classic and having a lot of fun.

We played case 1 and had no idea what we are doing, we didn't solve the case.
We then played case 2 immediately after that and it worked a lot better. We answered most answers correctly.
And now we just finished case 3 which we didn't solve mostly due to the fact that the main clue is in the newspaper of the previous case. We played with a guest and she couldn't have known it, but we also didn't remember the connection because case 2 was a week ago. We really disliked that. I hope something like that doesn't come up in upcoming games. But we still had a lot of fun and solved the side case which unfortunately wasn't asked about in the quiz, so we at least assume we solved it.

Has anyone played it? What are your experiences with it?

I'm right now imagining how cool Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective would be if you get evidence items or clues that give you markers (just like in Time Stories) which unlocks that you can investigate a person a second time or stuff like that.

Now we are also interested "Watson & Holmes: From the Diaries of 221B" which seems to be similar. Does anyone know about that game?

Other Games / Millennium Blades
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:26:56 am »
I just found out about this intriguing board game that many of you might like. It emulates being a professional CCG player and is totally a meta game. It consists of basically 2 parts. First you start with a couple of cards and a little bit of money. You have 2x 7mins where you can buy, sell and trade as many cards as you wish. You have then 6mins to order your cards and pick your strategy. Part of these cards go to your collection where you gain victory points the more cards you got from a specific set. With the rest of your cards you're actually playing the CCG in a tournament. This is simulated by playing 6 of your cards in a certain order triggering comboes and messing with your opponent flipping their cards over etc. Victory points are awarded based on how many points you scored in the tournament (the winner gets X VP, second place gets less etc.). The two phases - trading cards and playing in the tournament - happen 3 times and whoever has the most VP at the end is the winner.

The target group for this game is certainly small but Dominion being a deckbuilder and many of you playing MtG it may appeal to a lot of you. So I thought I share. Has anyone played it already?

Has anyone played this yet? I've heard good things about it, the problem is though that you really don't want to spoil yourself before you get it, but you only have spare information about the contents if you don't spoil yourself. I really wanted to buy it, but it's really expensive for a game that you will only play 3-4 times and the first expanion isn't that cheap either. Also I'm interested if this game works well for 2 players as I want to play this with my wife.
